Overview

Our take on the Viper Model 4105V

You can start your car from up to 1500 feet away — that's over a quarter mile — with Viper's Model 4105V remote start system. Just push a button on the keychain remote, and your car will be warmed or cooled just to your liking when you get to it. The remote also unlocks and locks your car, and even allows you to arm and disarm a factory security system in most cars. An auxiliary channel allows you to add a function like popping open the trunk or lowering the windows. The Model 4105V system is also compatible with any Viper SmartStart module, which allows you to start your car via your smartphone with no limit to the range.

I'm very happy with this product and the great tech support Crutchfield have, they help me over the phone and email and answer all my question that I have, and this was my first time Installing a remote starter, I bought this with flashlogic FLCAN bus module so it will be less wire to hook up, product work as advertised and have very good range, Thanks Crutchfield for all the tech support I received.

Pros: Work through the building with no issues.

Cons: If you know how to use a multimeter and understand how to test DC and AC circuit, you can do it.

Definately have a professional install this system!! I have installed many stereos and various electrical auto accessories and this one takes the cake. Super complicated and after days of work and phone calls I had to take it to a professional anyway.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this with the FlashLogic FLCAN bus module so it integrates with my pre existing factory alarm. Works exactly as expected. I start the car with a push of a button while I'm still at my desk. Walk down 4 flights of stairs in the parking garage, and there is my car, warming up, seat heaters started, etc. I love that the car remains locked til you get there and unlock it. Very cool to start car while still in the house, when it is snowy and cold outside. If you leave your car with the heat switched to on the night before, then when you start it next day the car can defrost the windows And heat your seat while you finish getting ready. This equipment works perfectly, even through multiple floors of my office building. Very cool.

Pros: Works through the building, no line of sight needed to start the car.

Cons: You do need a professional install, unless you do this type of install regularly. Just take it to a pro, lots of splicing and too much to go wrong if you aren't a pro installer yourself. So not really a con, just advice for all the diy'ers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product worked as advertised. Tech support was very helpful - called/emailed them several times with questions. They were helpful and patient every time. Documentation provides the minimum information required to get it installed correctly. That statement is not a knock on the product, just a warning that experience with this kind of installation is pretty much a prerequisite.

Pros: Works as advertised. Very good range.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my 2011 Ram 2500, installation wasn't straight-forward in the paperwork, but two calls to Crutchfield support got me fixed up. Professional installation would be good for someone who doesn't know electricity, working with a meter and basic electrical testing knowledge. Get the T harness and datalink module to make installation easier.

Pros: Good quality unit. Fool-proof connectors. Works as described. Crutchfield team always helpful and easy to work with.

Cons: Installation is not easy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this a 4 rating because of the lack of installation instructions. The Crutchfield support team though helped my with all the answers I needed. If I purchased this from any other company I probably would have returned this. I also purchased the Dball to go with it. Works great. I would never buy any automotive electronics from anyone but Crutchfield.

Pros: The Crutchfield support team Both products like they are advertised.

Cons: Lack of installation manuals

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you're looking for a basic remote start system, this is an excellent choice. It has a good range and is easy to use. The installation instructions from Viper are very basic, but Crutchfield will send you the wiring data for your specific vehicle. With that and a DVM, installation is easy. You need a good digital voltmeter; don't use an analog or you risk damaging your vehicle.

Pros: Good performance, easy to fit under the dash, easy installation.

Cons: Factory instructions are basic; you'll need Crutchfield's wiring diagram or one from the factory service manual.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works as its supposed to. Just be clear that this is not an alarm and doesn't even have a blinking light bulb. Its a keyless entry system with remote start. It doesn't sound when you open the door. My mistake for not knowing that. Most cars now have an alarm on them already. This would be perfect for you.

Pros: Brand recognition and it works.

Cons: You need a profesional to install. I paid $175 to a guy close by. Should of got an integrated alarm.

I'm very pleased with my new alarm start system. It works very well to keep my car audio equipment safe from vandals.

Pros: It's a lot easier to start my car specially if I'm in a hurry to go out and run errands or if I'm running late for classes at my university.

Cons: On certain days my alarm gets stuck and won't go back to normal settings,so I have to take it in to get checked out.

Great Remote Starter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great remote starter. I purchased the Viper 4105 V remote starter to replace a unit I had installed years ago in my fathers truck that the remotes quit working on.

Pros: Cruthfield's customer service and tech support is by far worth every penny to purchase the product from them instead of anyone else. I was able to contact them on a Sunday for technical help and we were able to work through my issues without any problem. The called me back to follow up to see if I had any other questions.

Cons: Instructions are a bit vague on where to connect some of the wires. But I believe that to be the case with any remote starter or alarm system. DIY installers need to have a good knowledge of automotive electronics on how things work in order to install, including a wiring schematic of your vehicle. Crutchfield did offer a schematic for my vehicle.

Remote Starter Features
Keyless Entry Features

Remote Starter Features

Overview: The Viper Model 4105V Remote Start and Keyless Entry system can start your car and run it by remote control from a distance of up to 1500 feet for a preset amount of time. It also functions as a keyless entry system, remotely locking and unlocking your vehicle's power door locks. The Model 4105V does not provide car security.

Note: The remote start function is for fuel injected, diesel, or hybrid vehicles only.

Remote Starting: Pressing the (*) button on the remote for a second will remotely start the vehicle and run it for 12 minutes. You can extend the run time to 24 or 60 minutes. If you wish to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle, you must preset the climate controls prior to starting the vehicle. When you are ready to drive the remotely-started vehicle, insert the ignition key, turn it to the On position (not Start), and press the brake pedal.

Crank Time: If the unit is programmed for no engine checking or voltage sense, the crank time must be set to the appropriate duration. The default setting is 0.6 seconds. It can be lengthened to 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, or 4.0 seconds.

Diesel "Wait To Start" Timer: If you have a diesel vehicle, you can set the starter to delay by a few seconds before engaging. The "wait-to-start" duration can be set to 15, 30, or 45 seconds. Gasoline engines will start approximately 4 seconds after the system acknowledges the start command by flashing the parking lights.

Valet Takeover: This feature allows the vehicle to remain running after the key has been removed from the ignition. This is useful for those occasions when you wish to exit and lock the vehicle for short periods of time while leaving the motor running and the climate controls on.

Automatic Shut-down/Starter Lockout: After the vehicle is remote-started, the remote starter will shut down when the brake pedal is pressed, the hood is opened, if the run time expires, or when the remote start command is sent again from a remote control. In addition, if the hood is opened or if the brake pedal is pressed, you cannot start the vehicle using the remote starter.

Timer Mode: The Model 4105V can be programmed to start and run the engine every three hours, for a maximum of six cycles. The engine will run for the programmed run time (3, 6, 9, or 12 minutes) and then shut down. After three hours, the system will restart the engine. The Timer Mode works only when the system has been locked with the remote.

Anti-grind Circuitry: Whenever the vehicle is started using the remote, advanced anti-grind circuitry prevents the starter from being engaged using the key. (In other words, it won't let you try to start the car with the key if the remote starter has already been engaged.) This prevents damage to the starter motor. The optional Failsafe Starter Kill relay must be installed in order for the anti-grind circuitry to work.

Shutdown Switch: You can temporarily disable the remote start unit to prevent the vehicle from being remote started accidentally by switching the supplied neutral safety toggle switch to the Off position.

Keyless Entry Features

Locking/Unlocking The Vehicle: Each 7145V remote control has separate "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons. When the "Lock" button is pressed, the doors lock, the horn in the vehicle honks once and the parking lights flash once. In addition, the Failsafe Starter Kill feature is activated, preventing the vehicle's starter from cranking. When the "Unlock" button is pressed, the doors unlock, the horn honks twice, and the parking lights flash. In the Silent mode, the doors lock/unlock without the horn honks, and the parking lights flash to confirm the operation.

Note: When interfacing with any other type of factory door lock system besides negative switching locks, or when adding aftermarket actuators, two relays (such as two 120E5000s) or a door lock module (607451M) will be required. If your vehicle requires the use of a Data Integration module that controls your factory door locks, no extra parts besides the Data Integration module will be required.

Trunk Release: When connected, the accessory output can operate a factory power release for the vehicle's trunk or hatch. An optional relay may be needed, and if the factory release is not power-activated, a trunk release solenoid can often be added (Directed part # 522T).

Car Finder: If you're having difficulty finding your vehicle in a crowded parking lot, the car finder function will cause the lights to flash 5 times slowly, allowing you to locate your vehicle.

Panic Mode: If you are threatened in or near your vehicle, you can attract attention by triggering the system with your remote. Panic mode requires the horn honk circuit to be connected.

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

Your website showed it as a top seller, and in fact the installer I called first recommended it as well. I only needed basic remote car starting, and wanted to maintain my existing keyless entry with arm/disarm of the factory alarm. An inexpensive way to have goodies added to my car, like starting the car from in the house when it's below freezing outside! Yay, I really can't wait. [ Julia  Jan 17, 2016 ]

Vicky there is a two minute time limit from the time you use your remote starter. The engine will shut off if you haven't gotten in your car and inserted your key by then. Also, this model cannot be used with a cell phone. Viper sells a more expensive model that is compatible with certain smart phones and the paragraph describing it will tell you which ones are compatible. Lastly, your security system will work fine with this device. One caution, Don't lock with your key and unlock with the remote fob. You will confuse the system and have to unlock with both devices to clear the fault. Hope I've been able to help you! Bye. [ James A.  Apr 20, 2016 ]
Yes you can restart as many times needed. You can also set run time longer than factory settings. 20 minutes. I don't know about iphone. [ STEVEN W.  Apr 20, 2016 ]
You'll also need a vehicle interface module like the FlashLogic FLCAN: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_220FLCAN/item.html It will be discounted by 50% when purchased with the Viper 4105V I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5 [ Ryan  Mar 04, 2016 ]  Staff
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. I had my Viper professionally installed and just recently I had issues with my F150 not starting. When I contacted the installer I was told that the way this remote start system works it should in no way affect "regular" starting i.e. with the key. My issue ended up being the fuel pump and in regard to the check engine light, that little gem can represent so many things I'd take it to your trusty mechanic, have them pull a code, and solve the issue at the source. BTW I love my Viper, it has gone from "nice to have" to "have to have." [ Matt  Jan 28, 2016 ]

IT comes with next to nothing. It does tell you what each wire is for but they don't give you step by step or even how to wire in the switches they leave it to your imagination. On the plus side Crutchfield was nice enough to send a chart of what wire colors = what on my car. [ Dan  Dec 04, 2014 ]

As much as I wish it had pinpoint the installation process telling me which wires go where and which ones to use, it doesn't. You have to have the knowledge of how to use a voltmeter and find which wire you're looking for on your vehicle. I personally relied on the tech support to help me and they went step by step and had even emailed me a sheet of which wires to use and where they tie into. Even if I wasn't able to locate the location of some wires, they emailed me pictures. [ AUSTIN J  Dec 04, 2014 ]
