Start your engine remotely, then get confirmation that it's running
You can start your car from up to a mile away away — that's right, a mile — with Viper's Model 4816V remote start system. Just push the button on the keychain remote, and your car will be warmed or cooled by the time you get to it. The 2-way remote features an LED that lights up to confirm that your engine has started. The Model 4816V system is also compatible with any Viper SmartStart module, which allows you to start your car via your smartphone with no limit to the range.
Push to start and keyless entry vehicles
The Model 4816V system works well with push-to-start (PTS) vehicles and those with keyless entry systems that use the head of the key as a transmitter. The factory keyless entry systems in many vehicles won't work after the car's been remotely started, so the 4816V includes an unlock feature to bypass that situation. You'll hardly notice the compact remote on your keychain, but you'll really appreciate the convenience that this easy-to-use one-button remote will bring to your lifestyle.
Important Note:
We offer a databus interface module that can save you lots of time when you install a Viper remote start system in most vehicles. Chat or call us at 1-888-955-6000 to see if the interface will work with your vehicle.
IMPORTANT:
If you know how to use a multimeter and have experience working with your vehicle's electrical system, you should be able to install this remote start system yourself. If not, please consider having your system professionally installed.

Remote Starter Features
General Features
Overview: The Viper Model 4816V 2-way Remote Start and Keyless Entry system can start your car and run it by remote control from a distance of up to 1 mile for a preset amount of time. The Model 4816V does not provide car security.
Installation: Because of the complexity of modern vehicles and remote start and keyless entry systems, professional installation is recommended. For experienced do-it-yourselfers, you may be able to save time and money by using a T-harness or vehicle interface from XpressKit. Contact a Crutchfield Advisor to see if there is an interface available for your vehicle.
Remotes: The Model 4816V includes a 1-button transmitter (7816V) with 2-way operation, and a 1-button transmitter (7616V) with 1-way operation. The 2-way remote receives feedback from the control module and emits confirmation tones if the command is performed. If the feature cannot be activated, or if the system is out of range, the 2-way remote emits a fault tone. The 7816V 2-way remote is powered by two CR2016 batteries (installed), while the 7616V 1-way remote has one CR2016 battery installed. Both 1-button remotes offer the following commands:
System State | Press / Release | Press / Hold (3 sec) |
---|---|---|
Engine Off | Start engine | Car finder |
Engine On | Unlock doors | Stop engine |
D2D Port: The Model 4816V's control module has a D2D port that will allow you to plug in an XpressKit vehicle interface. XpressKit interfaces are vehicle-specific, and can greatly reduce installation time by interfacing with your vehicle's factory wiring. Check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to see if an XpressKit interface is available for your vehicle.
SmartStart Compatible: The optional Viper SmartStart module lets you start, control, or locate your car from virtually anywhere with your smartphone. Available SmartStart modules include the VSM300 or VSM350 (with GPS). A dedicated 3-pin Bitwriter/SmartStart port is provided on the control center allows you to plug in the Viper SmartStart module.
Car Finder: If you're having difficulty finding your vehicle in a crowded parking lot, the car finder function will cause the horn to emit one long honk (if connected) and the parking lights to flash for 10 seconds, to help you to locate your vehicle.
Rapid Resume Logic: This Viper remote start system stores its current settings in non-volatile memory. If power is lost while the unit is in the locked mode, the system will maintain locked mode and recall the stored settings from memory when power is restored.
Remote Starter Features
Remote Starting: Pressing and releasing the Remote Start button on the remote will remotely start the vehicle and run it for 12 minutes. You can extend the run time to 24 or 60 minutes. If you wish to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle, you must preset the climate controls prior to starting the vehicle. When you are ready to drive the remotely-started vehicle, insert the ignition key, turn it to the On position (not Start), and press the brake pedal.
Crank Time: If the unit is programmed for no engine checking or voltage sense, the crank time must be set to the appropriate duration. The default setting is 0.6 seconds. It can be lengthened to 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, or 4.0 seconds.
Diesel Start Delay: If you have a diesel vehicle, you can set the starter to delay by a few seconds before engaging. The Diesel Start Delay duration can be set to 15, 30, or 45 seconds. Gasoline engines will start approximately 4 seconds after the system acknowledges the start command by flashing the parking lights.
Turbo Timer: When the Turbo Timer mode is activated, the system keeps the engine running at idle for the Turbo Timer runtime (default 1 minute). This allows enough time to properly cool the turbo before turning it off.
Pit Stop: This feature allows the vehicle to remain running after the key has been removed from the ignition. This is useful for those occasions when you wish to exit and lock the vehicle for short periods of time while leaving the motor running and the climate controls on.
Automatic Shut-down/Starter Lockout: After the vehicle is remote-started, the remote starter will shut down when the brake pedal is pressed, the hood is opened, if the run time expires, or when the remote start command is sent again from a remote control. In addition, if the hood is opened or if the brake pedal is pressed, you cannot start the vehicle using the remote starter.
Anti-grind Circuitry: Whenever the vehicle is started using the remote, advanced anti-grind circuitry prevents the starter from being engaged using the key. (In other words, it won't let you try to start the car with the key if the remote starter has already been engaged.) This prevents damage to the starter motor. The optional Failsafe Starter Kill relay must be installed in order for the anti-grind circuitry to work.
