This FM direct adapter lets you send the signal from your Dock & Play satellite radio directly to your vehicle's stereo. The direct connection eliminates the static and interference that can occur when using a wireless FM transmitter.

You won't have to find an unused station or switch between stations when traveling to different areas. Just tune to your favorite SIRIUS or XM channel, and enjoy excellent sound quality.

Installation of the FM direct adapter requires removal of your factory or aftermarket stereo. Then simply plug your factory radio antenna into the adapter and plug the adapter into the antenna plug on the rear of your stereo. Then plug the 2.5mm miniplug connector to the FM Out on your Dock & Play radio's car kit.

Please call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 or enter your vehicle information to see if any antenna adapters or tools are needed to install this FM modulator.

Features

Overview: The FM Direct Adapter is a hardwired FM adapter that allows you to feed the signal from the FM output jack on your satellite radio receiver into your car radio via the antenna connection, eliminating the outside static and interference you sometimes experience when using a wireless FM modulator. You also get to keep your local AM and FM stations when your device radio is turned off.

Note: This FM Direct Adapter is not a stand-alone FM modulator and cannot connect to the headphone or audio output of other external audio sources; it must connect to the 2.5mm FM output on a compatible satellite radio receiver.

Connections: The FM adapter box features the following connections:

  • To Radio: Male Motorola antenna plug on a 18" cable, plugs into the vehicle's AM/FM radio antenna input
  • To FM Antenna: Female Motorola jack on the side of the switch box, accepts the vehicle's antenna cable
  • Antenna: Male 2.5mm mini-jack on a 21" cable, plugs into the FM Out modulated output on the car kit

Dimensions of FM adapter box: Height = 1.25", Width = 1.875", Depth = 1.8125"

Installation: The FM adapter box is typically mounted behind the dash, near the radio. In this case it's likely that no antenna extension cable will be needed.

Antenna Adapters: Some vehicles (such as select GM vehicles, Volkswagens, Nissans, etc.) may require antenna adapters in order to connect the FM adapter Box to your vehicle's OEM antenna connectors. Please consult the Outfit My Car section of the Crutchfield website to see if OEM antenna adapters are needed.

Q
I have everything for XM except a way to connect it to a Sony XR-CA330. Roady set up with external antenna and power. Is there a cord to connect it to tuner? radio is "XM Ready "
ron  May 08, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Ron. Since that radio is discontinued, I don't have a way of seeing if the new Sirius XM tuner/antenna that's on the market will work with that Sony you have. I recommend giving the manufacturer a call, or if you purchased from us, you can give our technical support team a call as well-everything purchased from us comes with lifetime tech support.

Q
is there any difference in sound quality to having this adapter and running an aux cable into the headunit and using the aux channel to play sirius?
michael  Mar 28, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Michael, and thank you for your question. These FM direct adapters have been around longer than factory radios that had an Aux input. For the most part, they were much more reliable than wireless FM transmission. We are not going to do an A/B between this and the Aux input. I would think it would be similar, not better than the Aux in. If you have that, continue to use it.

I can't tune radio to dock and play. I have a 2019 F150. I have installed the adapter, I have tried multiple low frequency stations. I have had the dock & play in numerous vehicles without issues. I did move it to my motorhome and it works. Has anyone else experienced this Issue? Thanks In advance

And a new vehicle I wouldn't be surprised they haven't been able to jam it somehow so you're forced to pay for a new subscription to use the factory radio I would check with Ford next good luckEnter an answer to this question.

Q
What kind of power connection does this use?
smithimitron  Feb 20, 2019

A
It doesn't hook directly to power. It pulls from radio.
michael d  Feb 20, 2019
A
The mini c connector connection to the XM satellite radio dock should drive the unit. The audio output goes to a energized car radio, and the splitter to the vehicle antenna is passive, but external antenna connection goes to an open when xm radio is off
sean  Feb 20, 2019
A
None it hooks directly into your antenna inputs words really wonderful

tanner  Jul 17, 2014
Q
Could this device be used as an iPod aux plug?
alexander  Jul 16, 2014
8 answers
A
This device's function is to provide a direct, hard-wired, clear signal from the satellite radio to the automobile's built-in radio system, instead of the wireless function option within the satellite radio. It works very well and is worth the time to pull your car's radio and install it in-line with the antenna coax to the radio. If you are trying to use this to feed your iPod music to your radio's speaker output, I don't think it would work, because in order for it to work, you still have to use the satellite radio's options to select an FM frequency for output. I don't know how you would do that from an iPod. Perhaps you could query manufacturers of this type of adapter. Hope this helps!
gerald l  Jul 23, 2014

yes it actually can. just get yourself the correct antenna adapters for both ends,do not cut and splice ,it will kill the reception

michael  Jul 17, 2014

william  Jul 17, 2014
