Our take on the SiriusConnect™ Car-only Tuner

by Matt Holliday
SiriusXM

Note: You'll need an adapter to connect this to your car stereo — see "Accessories" or call us at 1-888-955-6000 to find the right adapter for your stereo.

The SiriusConnect SC-C1 universal tuner lets you receive Sirius Satellite Radio in your vehicle. You'll see channel, song, and artist information on your stereo's display, and you can save your favorite Sirius channels as presets. You'll also need to add the SiriusConnect adapter that's compatible with your factory or aftermarket stereo to control all of the tuner's functions.

The package includes a roof-mount antenna that attaches to your vehicle with its powerful magnetic base. The included removable metal mounting plate makes it easy to install the SC-C1 out of sight.

Note: A subscription to Sirius is also required. Satellite radio service is available only within the lower 48 states — not available in Hawaii or U.S. territories. Limited service is available in Alaska.

Features

Overview: The SIRIUS SC-C1 SiriusConnect Universal Vehicle tuner allows you to add SIRIUS Radio to a wide variety of aftermarket & OEM radios when combined with a SiriusConnect adapter (sold separately) to match your application.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio: SIRIUS Satellite Radio features more than 120 streams of original programming beamed coast-to-coast, including 65 streams of commercial-free, digital-quality music, and news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming.

Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

Compatibility: The SC-C1 SiriusConnect Tuner is designed to work with many Sirius-Ready or Sat-Radio Ready head-units. Some head-units will require the use of a SiriusConnect Interface or adapter cable (sold separately). The SC-C1 can also be integrated in select factory audio systems.

Connection: The SC-C1 uses a 5' SiriusConnect interface 8-pin DIN-cable that integrates power, audio and control through a single connection.

Mounting: The SC-C1 comes supplied with a removable metal mounting plate with three pre-drilled holes on either side and four self-tapping mounting screws to secure the device to a solid, flat surface. The mounting plate can be removed allowing the unit to be mounted directly to a smooth, flat, clean surface using either double stick tape, Velcro or other adhesive material (not supplied).

SIRIUS Antenna: The compact SIRIUS antenna has a powerful magnetic base that allows you to mount the antenna on the roof or trunk lid of your vehicle. The antenna needs to be positioned in such a way that it will be free of mechanical and line-of-sight obstructions. The attached antenna cable is 21' long. The antenna measures 1.605" wide x 0.505" tall x 2.005" deep.

Stunningly easy to install, and is tiny enough to fit anywhere...love the one cable feed from the head unit to the sat tuner. Hope the price drop doesn't indicate phasing it out...been using these Clarion units for the last 6 years in various forms, and they are so easy to install.
Pros:
Super easy install.
Cons:
none.

after trying several different Sirius receivers for my bike this is the best thing I brought and am so pleased with it. I have a 2007 Yamaha V star 1300 with a Jensen JHD 3620 Sirius ready sound system. This works the best. no fading in or out great reception, easy to install took a whole 30 minutes to put on the bike. Dean was a great help with my decision to purchase this product. I am so happy with this, and have told everyone I know what a great product it is and how wonderful Crutchfield was in helping me with it
Pros:
easy to install, fast shipping, and free 3 months subscription to Sirius XM radio
Cons:
can't think of a thing wrong with it

If you want Sirius you have to have this

Written By Brian R, Nh on Saturday, July 20, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been a Sirius fan for years and this is my first indash setup. So far so good great super clear. XM in New England is just not doable due to the angle of the satellite drops all the time. I had XM in my stock radio and changed my whole radio just so I could get Sirius.
Pros:
Easy to install and hide away
Cons:
Was not super wild about having to buy the JVC interface module but it is what it is.

Sirius Radio

Written By ME, Philadelphia, PA on Thursday, May 02, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice package for integrated satellite radio. Relatively small and fairly straightforward to install.
Pros:
Integration of satellite tuner and functionality to compatible head unit Relatively small Easy to hide if installation approach is not followed from user guide Works well (better than other aftermarket units) Nice with hardwired connection instead of "tuner" connection
Cons:
Cordage seems unnecessarily oversized Connectors are not that robust Power connector is a single sided Molex connector with an oversized inline fuse holder, a bit cumbersome DIN style connector between adapter unit and tuner seems a little overkill Unit mounting is awkward if mounted using provided brackets, requires a great deal of flat space somewhere under dash or elsewhere User guide is lacks detail

SiriusConnect™ Car-only Tuner

Written By Anonymous, Mentor, OH on Monday, April 22, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is what Sirius only subscribers who wish to upgrade their head units need. Not the SiriusXM SXV200V1 Satellite Radio Tuner. It works well, doesn't seem to lose signal that much compared to my old Kenwood tuner. Easy enough to install except for the plug on the head unit end of the cable, it is difficult to insert. Overpriced, especially when combined with necessary JVC SiriusConnect Adapter, in addition to new $200 head unit.
Pros:
Pretty Good signal. Allows me to keep my Sirius
Cons:
Price, plug on cable. Also, this is important: very limited number of head units to choose from. Check with an advisor.

this unit is small and that is good. I have had previous units for direct connect and this is the smallest one I have ever had it was easy to tuck away and hide. the factory satellite radio tied in with it so I didn't need to run another antenna. great price as well I paid a third through Crutchfield than what I was going to pay at my local store. very pleased.

small, simple

Very easy to install and worked perfect as soon as it was powered on. Little to no start up time on the radio (kenwood dnx7180) compared to the bluetooth feature. Clear reception and the antenna does not need to be mounted outside the car, I put mine on top of the dash in the corner of the passenger side and dont have any issues.
Pros:
Easy setup, great reception, ease of use

Works Great!

Written By Bret, Lubbock, TX on Saturday, March 23, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great with my aftermarket stereo. I was disappointed that I had to buy a JVC translator as well. I do like that it works through my stereo and I can have my presets right there on the head unit. I believe the sound is incredible and is just as good as listening to a CD or thumb drive. Much better then FM. Must have fixed glitches I've seen in some of the bad reviews. No problems here
Pros:
Easy Install, Can use presets on head unit, Great Sound
Cons:
Need translator to work with Head Unit. Can pause radio

SiriusConnect™ Car-only Tuner

Written By Anonymous, Minneapolis, MN on Friday, February 15, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Product is idiot proof for connecting, and the reception thus far seems to be superior to a previous XM unit I had. Small form factor makes finding a place for the receiver a breeze.
Pros:
Easy installation instructions and small form factor
Cons:
Only works with the Sirius channel lineup, not XM. (A very slight difference, but one that matters for O&A fans.)

Install Sirius with Kenwood DNX in Scion TC

Written By BobB, Cincinnati, OH on Friday, February 08, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Center consoles easy to take apart in Scion; exposes cable runs and allows for easy removal install of DNX. Antenna cable run requires attention to detail. Only disappointment is that the display of Sirius info is limited to song title on the Kenwood display. Selecting one of the many Sirius channels is not very user friendly.
Pros:
Easy to install.
Cons:
-Kenwood doesn't display all the Sirius info -Tuning a channel is not user friendly

Written By Mike, Syracuse, NY on Tuesday, January 22, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is a little bulky but works as it should. I really wish they would start building the sat tuners into the radios. This doesn't seem like it would be difficult. Make sure you don't need another box in conjunction with this tuner. The Kenwood deck I ordered needed another piece to mate with the deck. Always check the manufactures website and research. Crutchfield didn't tell me i needed the other piece but they were fantastic at getting this resolved for me. Great customer service!!!
Pros:
Works, simple
Cons:
Bulky

Written By Korey, Del Rio, Tx on Monday, December 17, 2012

I installed this unit with my Kenwood headunit and it worked for about 2 weeks and then quit. I removed the unit and it had something rattling around in it. Crutchfield was very helpful in getting me a replacement and it seems to be working fine now. The audio qualty is poor. My factory Sirius sounded much better. I was able to use my factory mounted Sirius antenna in my 2013 Ford Mustang GT.

Written By Bryan H, Austin, Texas on Monday, October 15, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was an easy install with the Peripheral iSimple® Satellite Radio Adapter for Toyota to my OEM radio. Keep in mind that if you are an XM customer and switch to this you will need to cancel your XM account and open a Sirius and it is not a cheap transaction but that is XMSirius issue, not Crutchfield's. this was an easy install, came with plenty of cabling options. I did the work myself since it's pretty much plug ..activate...and play :)
Pros:
Easy install, plenty of cabling options, low profile.
Cons:
Activating was a pain but that is a XMSirius issue.

I had an Authorized Audio store install the equipment that was sent to me. The next day after I had called and set up my account with Sirius the equipment quit working. I tookit back and the technician worked on it again and got it working. As soon as I was leaving the garage area it stopped working again. The technician looked at it again and this time couldn't get it working again. I told him to pull it out and I sent it back that day. Very UNHAPPY

The unit is easy to install and use. The interface with the Clarion CZ401 is seriously flawed. The display shows loading and there is no satellite reception. The unit will receive sirius on ocassion. The problem is most likely not the tuner but the receiver.

Very nice Sirius add on. Play's perfect and with a better deck than the factory Dodge unit I took out I can see my information without pushing buttons.
Pros:

i gave the item four stars.. only because on some other sat radios you can see grahics of the station.. thats one of those geewhiz i liked to have... but it doenst stop usefulness of the attachement. i also noticed that in my HU it takes a few seconds to load where a station. again not a deal breaker just good info..i usually switch to another source and right back and waorks fine then. as for the install really easy. i have an 05 sequia and had extra space there to put it where ever i wanted.. sounds great thru my speakers and i dont have the addiotnal wire dangling in front of my dash board. looks factory now.. VERY CLEAN..

Plugged directly into my clarion headunit without an interface kit. Small footprint and easily fit behind my headunit. I'm a long time sirius subscriber and love the programming. I got a new truck and wanted sirius without the clutter of a separate sat radio receiver. It does lack some of the features of the stand alone units, but the installation looks much cleaner
Pros:
integrated satellite radio
Cons:
Can't pause, rewind or program artist alerts like standalone sirius units

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently decided to lose the factory head unit in my '08 Grand Cherokee. I went with a Kenwood KDC-BT945U and mated it with this unit to replace the factory Sirius tuner. Luckily I was able to use the factory antenna which made the install take no time at all. After turning it on I immediately noticed a big difference in both reception and sound quality over the factory sirius tuner.
Pros:
Great sound quality and reception.

Another 5 Star Review!

Written By TweetyPacer, Lewisville, TX on Monday, October 31, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I grew to love XM radio in my 09 Vette, but hated most other things about the radio, especially the NAV system. Bought the Kenwood DNX6980, but the standard XM kit from Crutchfield would not hook up to it (bought it from Crutchfield, who apologized for the error, they sent out the Sirius unit BEFORE I sent back the XM kit - no cost and full reimbursement for difference eventhough I opened all of the shrink wrap! BEST C/S I have ever experienced! Thanks Crutchfield!) Back to the review - of course, most XM stations are the same on Sirius so I love it and the way the Kenwood works with the Sirius Connect Tuner and Kenwood adapter cable. I had it professionally installed.
Pros:
Performance, performance, performance! Tied in beautifully with my Kenwood DNX6980 which controls all the Sirius radio operations.

Very good set-up! Hooking everything up was a breeze because of those great instructions that Crutchfieled always sends with their product! The radio system works great and I can finally listen to the radio and not CD's all the time. Living in the mountains I got no local reception at all; with the new Satellite hook-up I can hear everything clear as day. Thanks again Crutchfiled; dont ever change the way you do business!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased this Sirius radio add on to hook up to my Kenwood DNX7180 "Sirius ready" head-unit. It works great, was very easy to install. Simply ran the antenna out the door of my truck under the rubber seal and stuck it with the magnet to the roof, plugged the antenna line into the radio, then the connected the cable between the radio and the head-unit and......done. Couldn't be simpler or easier. So far great reception with this little radio, would purchase it again.

SiriusConnect™ Car-only Tuner

Written By Jim, So Cal on Saturday, September 17, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a smaller unit than the previous one I installed a few years ago (in a Land Cruiser) which is a big plus for mounting. I mounted it (along with the JVC adapter) on the back of the glove box (with a metal brace) on my 94 Jeep Wrangler. I wheel this Jeep and try to maintain a water line as high as possible so I didn't want to mount it under the seats or console. The key to removing a YJ glove box are the 4 bolts behind the handle above the glove box. You can get to these bolts by lowering the windshield and removing all the dash bolts (no need to remove the AC). Also not mentioned in the sat radio install instructions are where to mount the antenna in a Wrangler. The ideal spot is on the "sport" bar zipped under the foam bar cover (and top).

Anyway it works great.

EZ hookup, like plug n' play. Plus I ordered a direct antenna line elsewhere for use with this unit in my 2010 Tacoma. My vehicle comes with an antenna built it and having this antenna plug in line to the unit meant I didn't have to use the ugly "press on/add on black thingy that is so obvious and hideous as an antenna." Very happy with this piece and the way it works with a Clarion CX501.

i tried the separate docking unit for my stratus6 and the clarion cx501.. OMG! What a pain, it did not work together and it turned out to be that the doc was not compatible with newer radios like the cx-501. I returned the doc. (Crutchfield tech dept are superb!) and ordered this tuner.. True plug and play. Took me longer to activate is with Sirius than to plug it in and get it working. The only reason I'm not happy is that now I need two subscriptions to Sirius... The whole reason I was trying to use my portable Stratus6 with the new docking stand.

Installs super easy with lots and lots and lots of surplus wire length for any

No Instant Replay

Written By Claude, League City, TX on Tuesday, March 15, 2011

I bought the Poneer AVIC-X920BT and the Sirius CD-SB10 with the intention of using the instant replay fuction. Unfortunately, this hide-away tuner does not support this function. Pretty frustrating, as the SCC1 is typically sold with the CD-SB10. Anyway, after further research, there is hope that the Sportster4 (and perhaps the Starmate 5) with the SCVDOC1 kit will support instant replay. The only thing I haven't verified is whether I can install one of these radios in the trunk and use the Pioneer head unit to operate them.

My sattelite radio seems to work fine. There are times such as going under an
underpass of a highway when it cuts out. I assume this is due to a loss of sattelite
connection. The only real issue I have is the inablility to connect to XM radio and have
the ability to "piggy back" on my husband's account. I was required to get Sirius and pay
full price for my connection which was much more costly than I expected but by that time
I had the radio installed and I was stuck.
