You'll need this car kit to play your Stiletto 100 or Stiletto 10 satellite radio through your car stereo. It includes a handy mounting cradle which features ten buttons that allow you to save preset channels, plus a Jump button that lets you skip directly to a channel you've programmed at any time.

If your stereo has an auxiliary input, you can connect the kit's cradle directly to with a set of patch cables (sold separately). If not, you can use the wireless FM transmitter to play the Stiletto over any FM car stereo. To improve sound transfer to your speakers, this kit includes an FM Extender cable*, which attaches to the inside glass surface closest to your vehicle's antenna. The kit also also gives you a roof-mount antenna and a car power adapter. The Stiletto is sold separately.

*Important note from Crutchfield: Current FCC rules limit the transmission strength of wireless FM transmitters to a point where transmission needs to take place very near your FM antenna. Sirius/XM includes extra wiring in order to address this issue, but Crutchfield strongly encourages customers to use an auxiliary input, wired FM modulator, or cassette adapter to ensure your satisfaction with the performance and cosmetics of the satellite radio.

Overview: The SIRIUS SLV1 car kit is designed to provide operation of your Stiletto in your vehicle. You can choose to install the SLV1 wireless or with a direct connection to hear your Stiletto through your car's speaker system. The vehicle kit also includes a vent or dash mount to provide flexibility in your installation and placement of your Stiletto.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio: SIRIUS Satellite Radio features more than 120 channels of original programming beamed coast-to-coast, including commercial-free, digital-quality music, and news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming. You will need a subscription to SIRIUS Satellite Radio in addition to the compatible tuner.

Note: Satellite radio service is available only within the continental United States. Service is not available in Alaska and Hawaii.

Compatibility: The SLV1 vehicle kit will work with the SIRIUS Stiletto SL100 and SL10.

Battery Adapter Insert: The kits features a battery adapter insert that allows you to use the Stiletto with the slim-line battery as well as the extended life battery without the insert.

Connection: There are two primary ways to connect your Stiletto to your vehicle radio.

  • Wireless Connection: The Stiletto contains an FM transmitter which sends audio from your Stiletto to your vehicle's radio over an FM frequency.
  • Direct Connection: Direct connection provides better audio performance than a wireless connection. There are several ways to directly connect your Stiletto to your car's audio system.
    • Wired Audio Connection: Using the line output on the car dock you can connect your Stiletto to the Line IN or AUX IN on your car's in dash player if it features one. (optional minijack cable needed)
    • Cassette Adapter: If you still have a cassette player in your car you can use a optional cassette adapter. The cassette adapter plugs into the line output and then the cassette inserts into your tape deck for playback.
    • FM Direct Adapter: If your radio does not contain and AUX or Line In you can use the optional FM Direct Adapter to go from the FM out of the car dock to the antenna in of your car's receiver.

Antenna: The low-profile Sirius antenna has a powerful magnetic base that allows you to mount the antenna on the roof or trunk lid of your vehicle. The antenna needs to be positioned in such a way that it will be free of mechanical and line-of-sight obstructions.

FM Extender Antenna: The FM Extender Antenna is provided to maximize the audio quality of your Sirius radio when using the built-in FM transmitter in your Sirius tuner to transmit the audio to your vehicle's FM radio. The FM Extender Antenna should be placed inside the vehicle in close proximity to the your vehicle's factory FM antenna. The FM Extender Antenna has permanent adhesive mounts for installing it along your vehicle's window. The Antenna portion measures 18" long and utilizes an attached 18.5' cord to route the antenna through your vehicle. The cord has a right angle minijack connector on the end of it that plugs into the FM-Out on back of the car docking station.

Important Note from Crutchfield: Current FCC rules limit the transmission strength of wireless FM transmitters to a point where transmission needs to take place very near your FM antenna. Sirius includes extra wiring in order to address this issue, but Crutchfield strongly encourages customers to use an auxiliary input, wired FM modulator, or cassette adapter to ensure satisfaction with the performance and cosmetics of this satellite radio.

Cigarette Lighter Adapter: The vehicle kit comes with a cigarette lighter adapter to supply power to the dock and your Stiletto. The car dock cannot be powered directly from a vehicle's 12 VDC power system. It must be powered using the included cigarette lighter adapter only. Connecting the vehicle dock directly to the vehicle's 12 VDC power system may result in damage to the vehicle dock and/or your Stiletto.

Mounting Methods: The vehicle kit offers the following three mounting methods.

  • Dash or Console Mounting Bracket (supplied): The dash/console mounting bracket has an adjustable arm so you are able to position your Stiletto at various angles. The Stiletto mounts to the bracket with 4 supplied machine screws. The base of the unit has a self-adhesive backing so it will stick securely to your dash or console.
  • Vent Mount (supplied): The vent mount is designed to clip onto your dash vents using the supplied vent clips and vent arm. The bracket attaches to the Stiletto using the four supplied machine screws.
  • Pro-Fit Brackets (optional): The car kit can be used with many of the Pro-Fit Vehicle-Specific Mounts (VSMs) to provide a custom mount for your vehicle. The dock can be mounted directly to the Pro-Fit Legend series Vehicle-Specific Mounts (VSMs). The cradle is also compatible with the regular Pro.Fit International VSM series. Please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to see which VSMs are compatible with your vehicle.

SL100 Car Kit

Written By scott, Dillsboro,IN on Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty Staight forward install no problems.Installed in a 1996 Camary. Remove a few plastic peaces and it was done in about 30 mins. The hardest part was getting the right location to mount it. I see some people are having problems with the FM transmitter. Me too, so I installed an FM direct hook up. Should be included with the kit or at least be HIGHLY recommend in the description. For me this is the only way to go.I also recommend the direct power hookup( can be powered off the radio or from the fuse box) Now listening to Sirius is like listening to a CD.

No problems here!

I have my Stiletto and car dock setup plugged directly into the AUX jack of my car stereo and it works perfectly. This eliminates issues that other people are having with the FM transmitter. That method is always iffy at best. A direct connection, if it's available to you, is the best way to go. The Stiletto is a great portable unit. The only drawback is that my iPod is now collecting dust!

FM Transmitter .....

Written By Jason, Hawthorne, NV on Tuesday, January 02, 2007

Well, I got my Stiletto for Christmas and absolutely love it. I installed the car kit in my truck and actually ran the fm antenna wire into my dash and stuck it on top of the antenna that goes into the back of the stereo and still got bad reception, I ended up using the cassette adapter, thankfully I still have a cassette adapter. Before buying, I would definitely consider other tuning options like maybe a powered fm transmitter and just plug into the headphone or audio port.

Siriusly Fed-Up

Written By Daniel, Maryland on Tuesday, December 05, 2006

I started writing this review and it quickly began turning into a book of how not to run a business so, let me instead, condense and bullet the major points:

I have purchased 4 items from Sirius in the last year. The S50, Stiletto 100, Exutive docking station for the S50, the home dock for the Stiletto 100. Out of those 4 things 3 where broken right out of the box.
The products look good but function poorly
They leave components and functions out that one would think to be an obvious need. SL-100: no belt clip or holder of any kind. Very poor design on receiver headset. Software: no way of finding out how much space you have on you unit. Exutive Docking Station: incredibly small holes for wall mounting.

My biggest piece of advice would be not to choose Sirius and if you do to purchase an extended warranty from Crutchfield because they know how to take care of their customers.

Car Kit

Written By RSmiley, New Orleans, LA on Sunday, November 12, 2006

It simply does not work correctly. I love my stiletto but cannot use it in either one of my vehicles do to the poor FM transmitter. This is my third sirius plug and play unit and the first to ever give me a problem. In my car the antenna is about three feet away from where the unit sits and there is strong amounts of static that at times is umbearable! So I thought maybe it was just in my car so I moved the unit to my wifes car where the antenna is in the back windshield. it was so bad I just turned it off. It's bad. Really bad! I'm sending the car kit back tomorrow and will exchange it to see if I just perhaps got a bad unit. I also want to touch on the fact that it also charges the battery very slowly. Only saying this because Sirius claims it is a quick recharge system. Hasn't charged unit over 2 bars since I have had it.
