Kenwood's DNX7180 navigation receiver is your "do-it-all" solution for in-dash navigation and multimedia entertainment. This flagship model takes the basics you expect in an in-dash nav system, adds some juicy extras, and then ramps up the capabilities of its features. You'll pay more than some models, but you'll get a lot more too.

Navigation with free traffic services
The DNX7180 uses NAVTEQ traffic services to make it easier to navigate through busy metropolitan areas. You'll get up-to-the-minute traffic info in over 90 cities in the US and Canada, with automatic rerouting around congestion and road closures. Best of all, it's free — you'll never pay a fee for this valuable service.

Ever been caught in the wrong lane at a busy interchange? Lane Assist puts an end to that last-minute guesswork, automatically guiding you to the correct exit lanes and pointing out the correct signs to follow.

PANDORA® Internet radio and more
If you enjoy listening to your own personal radio stations on your iPhone®, you don't have to miss a note when you get in the car. Once you connect your iPhone to the DNX7180 with Kenwood's optional cable, you'll be able to control your PANDORA® stations from the receiver's touchscreen, including rating songs with a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down."

This versatile receiver also covers your more conventional music media. You can plug your iPod® or a thumb drive into the rear USB port, or slide CDs and DVDs loaded with music files into the slot behind the motorized face. An rear A/V input bats cleanup with a connection for any other A/V sources.

Movie theater on wheels
Got a yearning for some popcorn and a movie? Park the car, slip in a DVD, and enjoy. If you want to entertain the troops in the back seat while you're driving, connect a monitor to the A/V output and you're all set. You can even listen to a separate source in the front while they watch a movie in the back.

Touchscreen control makes it easy to use
Thanks to Kenwood's thoughtfully designed interfaces, you can start enjoying your receiver without wearing out your owner's manual. The DNX7180 offers three different color schemes for the GUI and variable button illumination choices, so you can find a look that complements your dashboard lighting.

Bluetooth for safer driving
Kenwood has teamed up with Parrot, a leader in Bluetooth technology, to bring you hands-free calling in the DNX7180. When a call comes in, you answer with one tap of your finger — you'll hear your caller over your vehicle's speakers and talk to them like they're in the seat right next to you. And as an added bonus, you can stream music from any compatible Bluetooth device.

Expand your system
Add Kenwood's optional HD Radio™ tuner to enjoy the enhanced digital sound quality and additional programming choices HD Radio has to offer. Or add a satellite radio tuner and access the wide variety of entertainment, sports, news, and commercial-free music from Sirius/XM.

No matter what you're listening to, Kenwood designed the DNX7180 to send a crisp, clear audio signal to your speakers. Plus, you can use the 5-band graphic equalizer and a wide range of sophisticated digital signal processing tools to shape your sound.

If you're looking to add amps and subs, you'll love the three sets of preamp outputs, including a dedicated subwoofer output with low-pass filter and level control.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Kenwood stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Kenwood, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

A mileage report is created for every route that you drive. If you stop a route on your navigation system, a mileage report is crated for the distance you traveled.
    • Less Fuel Routes: The Less Fuel route is calculated based on speed limit and acceleration data.

Note: The data provide by the ecoRoute feature is only an estimate. The data is not actually read from your vehicle.

Tools: The DNX7180 offers tools you can use as you travel:

    • World Clock: The world clock allows you to display the current time for four locations throughout the world. You can also display a map of the world showing which portions are in daylight and which are in darkness.
    • Calculator: The calculator allows you to perform simple arithmetic.

Safe Mode: Safe Mode disables all navigation system functions when the vehicle's parking break is disengaged, that require significant operator attention and could become a distraction while driving. You will need to engage the parking brake to enter addresses or other advance navigation functions when you have the unit set to Safe Mode.

Software/Map Data Updates:  When the preloaded maps are considered out of date, the DNX7180 will provide periodic notification at startup. Garmin software and map updates can be downloaded as required, via SD memory card. To find a software or map update, please go to www.garmin.com/kenwood.

Note: The unit's SD-card slot is located behind the slide-down touchscreen monitor. The SD-card slot is only used for software and map updates. It cannot be used for playback of media files from an SD memory card.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit does not live up to expectations. Navigation does not update time, does not dim at night.

    Pros: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As everyone else I noticed it was somewhat laggy but I dealt with it and got used to it. Recently updated the firmware and problem solved! Great HU, would recommend to friends. I had the microsoft sync in my F150 but don't even use it as this HU does everything sync does, only better IMO. The pandora feature doesn't work that well when plugged in but I stream all my music via bluetooth from my iphone and the quality is excellent.

    Terrible.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I called Kenwood and they said a 1.5 second delay before the interface even responds to your action is normal. Poor design if they feel that way. The unit is too slow to even use. I'll be selling this and buying a Pioneer. I will never buy a Kenwood ever again after this experience. Crutchfield was very helpful in putting me in touch with the right people, who unfortunately, were not able to help (Kenwood).

The buttons on the unit are too small / part of the screen and it's impossible to tell what you hit because of the 1.5 second delay before it even starts processing.

    Stay far away.

    Pros: Nothing.

Cons: You simply can't get passed the slowness of the interface.

Just installed this unit on Saturday, tested the Navi out on sunday. Most reviews of this unit don't point out that if you have a Smartphone of any type and it has bluetooth you can play your pandora, and also your songs on the SD card. Since I've had this unit only a few days I really can't tell you how well the Bluetooth phone conversations are because I really haven't tried it out. The Dvd Player has proven to be better than the DDX-7015 that I had before. The navigation system is out of this world. I placed the antennae under my hood where the magnet locked to the frame. In my trial I took a trip to my parents, and they live in a small town and I swore it wouldn't find it but put in the street number then name and low and behold it found it. The install was a little more detailed than I would have like only because I have a bose system in my pathfinder. I thought the Bose system was good in the pathfinder, but boy did this unit amplify it to make it awesome!

Only down side so far is the hard buttons, it takes some getting use to...that much I promise.

    Laggy in need of updates

Written By John, San Diego, Ca on Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Well stepped up bought the DNX7180.. It is about as fast as an Atari from 1980. I tried making a phone call and was tyoing in the number too fast lol. I dont know how the numbers are skinny and samll for the size of the scrren so I had to type slow I thought... Going back and forth deep into sub menus and back and forward is painfully slow. Does NOT support SMS on Verizon advertised it did. Split screen PIP a waste unless you want a blank right side or look at the icons. If someone calls it will show the call but the writing is small so whats the point in having the split screen. Sat radio doesnt show the Channel logos like my 10 year old Pioneer did. Most of the icons unelss your into Apple products are a waste as it doesnt support Windows mobil or Android. Bottom line I think its saveable with some updates firmware and software seems like a BETA OS. Give it time it may become worth the price. We shall see!!

The Good The Bad The Ugly

Written By Dawn, California on Thursday, May 12, 2011

I too had high hopes for this radio but it leaves much to be improved.

    Touch Screen:
Love the touch screen, though some of the navigation through the screen is difficult to control. After spending many hours I am able to control it more easily but it is difficult to do while driving.

    Pandora
I love the Pandora feature while it works, though it disconnects within 5-15 minutes of use.

    iPhone Controls
Love the connection with the iPhone and the fact that is uses the backside instead of the front side. The ability to read your albums from the unit is great and I love how you can prioritize your top 10 albums and create an easy shuffle between these favorites.

I have not been able to figure out playing from my playlist through the unit, but I am able to use the iPhone and start my playlist there.

    Bluetooth calling
Excellent quality of hearing my callers. Some complaints on being able to hear me clearly.

    Navtrak
Absolutely awful. Will warn about traffic when non exists. Will warn about traffic when I have been sitting at a dead stop for over five minutes. Totally worthless.

    A Little Disappointed

Written By Gerry, Seattle, WA on Monday, May 02, 2011

I had really high hopes for this system but was left with some disappointments.

Installation was straight forward even though the precise adapter for the Honda
CRV audio system was not supplied. The faceplates et al fit perfectly.

As for navigation, this system really rocks. Garmin is first
class when it comes to navigation and having a built in system is truly
awesome. I even like the fact that the GPS is opertional in the background and
the little street name status on the bottom is cool.

    However..........

To get HD radio, which is a big factor for me, I had to purchase the Kenwood
HD Tuner. Ok, not so bad as the cost isn't huge but I am truly disappointed.
The reception on this thing is terrible. It's the worst reception I have ever seen
in a radio. I can only assume it is because the antenna connection must go
through the HD tuner first. Not sure.

There should be a signal booster built into the HD tuner to overcome this but
    there isn't.

The reception is good when it is good, but that isn't often. It is truly at the point
where I may just take this thing out and put the factory radio back in. I cannot
listen to it in various locations which is extremely frustrating.

Get everything you’ll need to enjoy your new Kenwood DNX7180

Display and control the audio and video content from your iPod on your new stereo.
You can have satellite radio display on the face of this stereo by using one of these packages. Subscription required.
