Features

Multi-Channel Design: The X700-5 is basically three amps built into one chassis, two full-range 2-channel amps (A and B), typically powering the front and rear speakers, and one mono amp to power a subwoofer. Either of the full-range amps can also be bridged to one channel.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4-ohm load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N), and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (when applicable). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Kenwood X700-5 is rated at 40 watts RMS x 4 plus 300 watts RMS x 1 with an 80 dBA signal to noise ratio.

Specifications: The manual also lists these non CEA-2006 compliant specifications:

  • Full-Range Channels:
    • 2Ω: 50 watts x 4 (at 1 kHz, no more than 0.5% THD)
    • Bridged: 100 watts x 2 (into 4Ω, at 100 Hz, no more than 0.5% THD)
  • Subwoofer Channel: 500 watts x 1-channel (into 2Ω, at 100 Hz, no more than 0.5% THD)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB (at rated power)

Cooling Fan: There is a cooling fan to help dissipate heat and ensure cool, reliable operation. Make sure not to block the vents or the fan when installing the amplifier.

Input Sensitivity: The X700-5 features independent gain controls for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. The input sensitivity of each is adjustable from 200 mV to 5.0 volts.

High-Pass Filter: The front and rear amps have individual switches to set the built-in crossovers to high-pass or off (full-range). The crossover points are independently adjustable from 50-200 Hz. The high-pass crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Low-Pass Filter: The subwoofer channel's low-pass crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed). The crossover point is adjustable from 50-200 Hz and the slope is 24 dB/octave.

Bass Boost: The subwoofer's bass boost circuit is centered at 40 Hz; boost is variable from 0 to +18 dB.

Aluminum Heat Sink: The aluminum heat sink increases the amplifier's heat dissipation efficiency, increasing the life of the amplifier.

Power And Ground Terminals: The amplifier features screw terminal power and ground terminals. They will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.55" wide.

Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on is a screw terminal that will accommodate a spade connector up to 0.35" wide.

Speaker Terminals: The five pair of speaker terminals are screw terminals and will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.35" wide.

Signal Inputs: The amplifier features three pair of RCA input connections, A, B, and Sub.

Fuses: Two 40-amp ATO fuses are installed in the amplifier chassis.

Warranty Note: This refurbished Kenwood product carries a 90-day warranty when purchased from Crutchfield. Kenwood offers Crutchfield customers an extra 60 days extended warranty beyond the 30-day Kenwood Limited Warranty for Refurbished Product that comes in the box.

I've seen reference to under seat mounting. I'm looking to mount my amp, when my system arrives, under the rear window in an extra cab Ford Ranger. Is there any problem doing it this way?? I've got too much other garbage, dirt etc....under my seats, so I wouldn't trust mounting it there! If necessary, could I get short stand offs, maybe 1/4-1/2 inch, to lift the amp a little farther, for better venting?? Any help and/or information much appreciated.

This is a hybrid amp. The full range channels are digital so cooling requirements are very low. The sub amp module is analog and high power. It also has a very low profile for such a powerful amp. I have this amp mounted behind the rear seat-back of my pickup. I had to mount it as close to the floor as possible but it fits just fine. I shaped a piece of plywood to bolt into existing factory holes on the back bulk-head. I then mounted the amp and four crossovers to the wood base and then bolted all that into the truck. I can easily disconnect the signal wires and then remove the whole assembly. I run it at high volumes all the time and have never had a problem. I'm using 2-way Helix speakers and JL sub.

Charles, I bought this amp about 6 months ago to mount in my party bus. I had same problem of wanting it out of harms way ( especially in a party bus). I screwed mine right to the wall behind a seat above a heater and have not had one single problem. This amp has a fan in it and as far as I can tell it does not get close to hot the way I have it mounted. Also it is almost always cranked all the way up for hours. Hope this helps !!!

You can easily mount to the cab wall. I put mine under Tacoma drivers seat and it is angled up and cockeyed some. Venting is a non-issue as it sucks front to back. My goal was just for security, ease of access, and keeping things looking stock. Cables connected easily even with the odd mounting. It's small and thin so easy to put just about anywhere.

Front and rear are independent of the sub. The power output (in Watts) of the unit is shown as 4x40 (4ohm) and 1x300 (4ohm) for a single voice coil subwoofer or 4x50 (4ohm) and 1x500 (2ohm) for a dual voice coil subwoofer. I have a JL audio dual voice coil subwoofer so my amp runs 4 ohm to each of the front & rear speakers and 2 ohm to the sub. Sounds like that is what you are looking for. Take a look at the manual. It's on Kenwood's website here: It pays to take some extra time to make sure your components are all compatible before dropping the cash.

When using this amp as a 3 channel, should I use my front, rear and sub rcas or, should I just use my front and sub rcas?? In other words, should I be running 6 seperate rcas or 4? Thanks!

When using this amp for only 3 channels you could use the front and rear pair of RCA's and bridge the outputs to increase power to your front 2 channels and use the sub output for the sub.

i would use the front rca jacks and the sub rca jacks. i have mine hooked up to 5 speakers and it is a great amp.

No the amp does not have an input for any type of remote gain adjustment, like a bass boost knob or anything like that. It does have gain adjustments for all 3 pairs of channels, as well as a "bass boost" adjustment, but nothing remote.
