Music is a big part of your life. Whether you're cooking in the kitchen or chilling out on the deck, listening to music just makes it better. Now it's easy to tap into your collection of tunes plus lots more music from the Internet, from anywhere in your home. This bundle from Sonos pairs together the Play:5 a self-contained music system with built-in speakers and a Bridge adapter that connects to your home computer network. You'll get top-notch, room-filling sound from a player that easily fits on a tabletop. The Play:5 teams up five drivers two tweeters, two midranges and a subwoofer with five tailor-matched amplifiers to deliver full-bodied, lifelike sound.
You can use a single Play:5 for big, room-filling stereo. But two Play:5 players can be paired together to fill an even bigger space. Or use lots of Play:5s all over the house to have all your favorite tunes wherever you want them. You can have up to 32 Play:5 units and players in your Sonos system. Each one can play an independent selection of individual tracks or playlists. Or all rooms can be playing the same music at the same time...a popular feature of Sonos.
This bundle includes the Bridge, which you plug into your router's Ethernet port. Connect its power cord, turn on the Play:5, and your network is up and running. Sonos' network is known for its extensive range and superior performance, giving you house-wide access to tunes stored on your PC along with a treasure trove of Internet audio choices.
You can use an iPhone®, iPod Touch, or iPad to control your Play:5. A free download from the App Store at apple.com turns your device into a full-fledged Sonos controller. Use your touchscreen to control the Play:5 and all zones and music sources in your system.
The Sonos Controller, sold separately, is a remarkably user-friendly remote. It's a great choice if you want a secondary remote upstairs or if you don't want the whole family handling your iPhone. Equipped with a 3-1/2" color LCD touchscreen, the Controller lets you easily navigate and search through the playlists and tracks stored on your computer or select an Internet radio station. You can even use this remote to create customized playlists on the fly for one or more Play:5s, or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can even use it to mute or adjust the volume of each of your Play:5 speakers using dedicated hard buttons.
The Sonos system works seamlessly with a host of Internet-based digital music services, including Rhapsody, Pandora, last.fm, Napster®, and SIRIUS Internet Radio. Rhapsody offers instant access to millions of songs and ad-free radio stations through your Sonos Controller. SIRIUS Internet Radio gives you access to over 80 channels of programming. Every Sonos system includes free 30-day trials of these two services, so you can start listening the moment you take it out of the box. Pandora and last.fm create customized Internet radio streams just for you all you have to do is enter the name of your favorite song or artist. And because Sonos connects directly to the Internet for all of these music services, you don't even have to turn on your PC.
I purchased this Sonos starter system for my wife for Christmas. When the weather finally gets warm we will mainly use it to provide music to our screened porch. It does take a while to learn and understand it's capabilities, but once you figure it out it is great and easy to use. The only issue I have right now is lack of reliability when tuning in some of the radio stations. Streaming speed is a big consideration so make sure you have enough horsepower from your IP before making a purchase. This purchase is more of a luxury and could be considered overkill if all you really want to do is be able to listen to music in an unwired location. There are a cheaper ways to do this for sure. The Crutchfield folks were great with service and support and will definitly buy from them again.
Pros: Easy to use. Great sound from speakers Tons of music choices Expandable
Cons: Expensive Might require upgrade of streaming speed (which also cost more)
I spent a lot of time going to retail stores, asking questions, listening to the system and playing with all the systems functions. It made me very frustrated because different places would tell me differnt information and some of it didn't make any sense and was completly wrong. It wasn't until I called and spoke to a Crutchfield representitive(jackie) who spent a lot of time answering all my questions and explaining what the system was capable of. I love the fact that I can combine my already existing system (stereo) with the sonos system or take ordinary speakers and hook them up to the sonos system. It is a great system that can grow as our needs grow.
Pros: How easy it sets up and how it interfaces with different devices
Cons: The price
I bought the Sonos 5, got it home, and the setup was quick, easy, and painless...really top notch. This was the first tabletop stereo-type item I've bought and I realized they are not for me. I need the fuller sound of, at least, bookshelf speakers. I wound up returning my Sonos 5. I will find another way to stream internet radio, maybe a Sonos amp or a Logitech Squeezebox hooked to my stereo, not sure yet.
Pros: The set up and ease of use are excellent. Quick, easy and painless.
Cons: The sound quality.
I absolutely love having a huge selection of free music at my fingertips. With one simple tap of the screen I'm able to access an endless variety of online music, no matter what my mood happens to be. The magnitude and depth of sound you get from this little speaker is fabulous as well.
Pros: Outstanding Sound, Simple to set up and run, Endless supply of free music that is at your fingertips, covering all generes
Out Standing Sound!!!!!!!!!! I bought the Sonos s5 combo about 1 month ago and i can not believe the sound quality the s5 puts out and how simple it is to hook up and use. I will be buying more s5 in the future
This was a lot of $$$ to spend on this unit, or so it seemed. This was to replace speakers that I had had for several years in the kitchen where my wife and I spend a lot of time cooking together. The size and color of the speakers always bugged my wife so this was the perfect in for this sweet little unit. After consulting with a Crutchfield rep I took the plunge. Now seriously, we had this thing out of the box and playing music in 20 minutes (I might mention that we are by no means tech saavy)!!! Last night we had Mexican fish tacos and we tuned into some great authentic music on one of the hundreds of inet radio stations available though the Sonos controller, which is a very sweet unit too by the way. So if you're thinking about this for your kitchen, or any other room, do it! We plan on getting another S5 for the office soon we like the one in the kitchen so well.
Ordered this product with free shipping and it arrived in two days...in a
snowstorm! That feat aside, this may be the best product, of any kind, that
I've ever purchased. I couldn't imagine the sound quality that the S5 produces.
If I could give it 6 stars, I would. There are absolutely no minuses. This small
unit (really 5 speakers in one) produces better sound than my Bose/Harman Kardon
stereo combo, at 1/2 the price. Set up the controller app on my iPhone and on my
iPad, and they work flawlessly too, not to mention instantaneously, regardless
of where I am in my house (3000 SF and three floors). This is worth every penny.
I can't wait to get another S5 for my loft. This is a flawlessly executed
Received and installed a SONOS S5 bundled system last week. This is a great system with almost unlimited sources for music and more. Our home has TechShield roof decking which restricts radio signals. SONOS solved that problem. We are still moving the S5 to different locations to get the best sound quality, though all locations have been very good. Amazing sound from such a small box! We could not be more pleased. We are still learning the in and outs of programming music sources, but within an hour from taking it out of the box had music streaming from our iTunes library.
We were looking for a way to replace an iPod dock that could play radio in addition to our iTunes library, so it seemed like the Sonos was a good way to go.
A few things to consider that were not self evident when investigating this system:
1. Internet Radio - We are new to internet radio streaming, and the content available through Sonos is tremendous, even offering international stations galore. We had no idea that much would be at our fingertips out of the box, and it a such a pleasant surprise
2. Sound quality - The S5 is a really high quality audio system. Very deep bass, and good power gives it room-filling oomph. We have our unit in an open kitchen/family room area, and we just cannot have the volume above about 15-20% normally as it gets too loud.
3. Set up - Many reviews talk about how easy the setup is. Believe it. 10-15 minutes and I was done.
4. iPod controller - Although you do not require a handheld controller to run the Sonos (the PC software included does a great job), having the iPod app makes it really simple to use.
5. Content - The music services available (Pandora, etc...) are simple to set up and provide as much content as most would want. There may be specifics available from the subscription services, but I don't feel like we are missing out on anything at this point.
I absolutely love the Sonos S5 Bundle that I purchased and the Crutchfield team was great in answering all my questions before I purchased. Initially I purchased this system so that I could access Jazz music from the internet in a room other than where my computer is. The local Jazz stations are gone in my area. Setting the system up took only minutes even with connecting the Zone Bridge and then I was able to play Smooth Jazz from an internet HD station and from Pandora. I also use it to play music from my iTunes music collection. The sound is great. Use my iPod touch to control the Sonos S5 and that was easy too after I downloaded the App from iTunes. Thank you Crutchfield team for helping me find a system to wirelessly listen to Jazz again!
Sonos S5 Zonebridge bundle was very easy to set up on a wireless network. Good quality sound. Internet radio selection is very good. Remote control app using an iPod Touch works well. Issues with playing iTunes albums from two computers were resolved with email tech support help from Sonos.
Very easy to set up. The sound is awesome. Endless music anytime. iPhone controller app
is very easy to navigate. Sonos hit it out of the park with the S5.
I did a lot of research on many components of the Sonos system for months before I finally decided to pull the trigger. I ordered a Zone Player 90 (hooked to my AVR in family room), an S-5 (for my fire pit) and of course a Zone Bridge which is the heart of the system. I expected this wireless system to be awesome when it was set up but it is so much more than that. Why I didn't buy this 3 years ago is beyond me. The set up for everything was really a piece of cake. I did run into a minor problem when trying to add my iTunes into the Sonos software of my PC. It turned out to be a glitch with my McAfee anti-virus software and was easily resolved directly with Sonos over the phone (they accessed my computer remotely and fixed the problem). Also downloaded the Sonos app on my iTouch which works seamlessly as the controller for my system. The customer service that Crutchfield and Sonos (direct) offers is just phenomenal. I now have an incredible wireless system in my home that I can build upon for years!! If you are wavering on this purchase, JUST BUY IT!
This was the easiest home stereo setup I have ever experienced. I purchased the S5 bundle, a Zoneplayer 90, and the controller. The setup was complete in less than an hour after I started opening the box, including product registration and downloading updated software. The hardest part was connecting the Zoneplayer 90 to my ancient home theater receiver (20 minutes). The sound from the S5 speaker is outstanding, and the controller is completely intuitive, super easy to learn, and a lot of fun to use. I will definitely expand my Sonos system to other rooms. It isn't cheap, but it is a great value product that is worth every penny!

Desktop Controller Software: The supplied setup disc contains the software for the Desktop Controller, which allows you to control the Sonos Digital Music System from your home computer. It includes easy-to-use wizards for setup and music sharing so the music folders on your hard drive can be shared across all Zone Players. You can also add Internet Radio stations and set preferences for online updates. Once the system is set up, all you need to do is choose your music, choose your zone, and press Play. Connections: The Sonos ZonePlayer S5 is equipped with the following connections.
Versatile Placement: You can position the Sonos ZonePlayer S5 wherever you find the sound most enjoyable. Its compact size and inset handle make it easy to place the ZonePlayer S56 on the kitchen counter, or carry it out to the patio with you. For maximum performance, following these guidelines:
ZoneBridge 100: The Sonos ZoneBridge BR100 is used to connect the Sonos ZonePlayer S5 to your home network or to extend the wireless range of the Sonos Digital Music System. The Sonos ZoneBridge BR100 makes setting up your wireless Sonos system fast and easy by simply connecting the ZoneBridge to your router to instantly activate SonosNet (a secure wireless mesh network). The included Sonos ZonePlayer S5 and Controllers (CR100, sold separately) will work wirelessly and can be placed anywhere in your home. Although the ZoneBridge doesn't play music like the Sonos ZonePlayer, it's an effective way to extend the range of the Sonos system and expand the Controller's wireless coverage. It's also a way to connect other products to the Internet.
Note: This unit is not a stand-alone device and requires at least one Sonos ZonePlayer.
Instant Wired/Wireless Setup: The ZoneBridge connects to your router using a standard Ethernet cable connection (2-port switch, 10/100Mbps, auto MDI/MDIX). Then, a simple press of the button located on top of the BR100 will start SonosNet, a secure AES encrypted, peer-to-peer wireless mesh network that enables other Sonos products to control and play music wirelessly.
System Flexibility: Once you've set up your ZoneBridge, you can easily add more components anytime. If your home has structured (built-in) wiring, you can make a wired connection to additional ZonePlayers or ZoneBridges. If you don't have structured wiring, you can take advantage of Sonos's built-in wireless technology. The ZoneBridge BR100 provides flexibility to place your ZonePlayers in any room of the house and connect them all wirelessly.
Ethernet Ports: The ZoneBridge has two Ethernet jacks on the back to bring standard Internet connectivity to your set-top box, PVR, PC, Game Console or NAS drive.
Range Expansion: You can stream music wirelessly to a remote location by placing a ZoneBridge in between your ZonePlayer in a remote location and the rest of your Sonos system. You can also improve Controller access to SonosNet by placing the ZoneBridge in areas where wireless coverage needs a boost. The ZoneBridge BR100 is ideal for retrofits, where your ZonePlayers might be in one location instead of being placed throughout your home.
Desktop Controller Software: Designed with a user interface to accommodate a large screen displays, the supplied Sonos Desktop Controller software for PC and Mac will guide you through both set up and music sharing.
