Sonos has done it again. Their SUB makes it even easier to get incredibly compelling sound in any room of your home. Two force-canceling woofers are positioned face to face in this unusually and stylishly shaped cabinet for loud, crystal-clear bass and minimal vibration. And a variety of adjustments can be performed to tailor the sound to your specific room using the Sonos controller app. Whether you're in a great room with high ceilings or a small office or den, the Sonos SUB is ready to bring new bass impact and greater dynamics to your listening experience.
Just like the rest of the Sonos family, the Sonos SUB is a breeze to get up and running. Place the SUB in the room where you want more bass from your PLAY:3, PLAY:5, or CONNECT:AMP and press a button. The SUB connects to other Sonos players using Sonos' proprietary wireless network, so you can place it anywhere in your room where it'll have access to power. It doesn't need to be connected to your speakers or Sonos player.
You can use an iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad®, Android™ phone, or computer to control any and all Sonos players. A free download turns your smartphone and tablet into a full-fledged Sonos controller. Easily navigate and search through playlists and tracks stored on your computer, or select an Internet radio station. Create customized playlists on the fly for individual rooms or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can also mute or adjust the volume of each of your players.
The Sonos system works seamlessly with a host of Internet-based digital music services, including Pandora® Internet radio, Spotify, Napster®, and SIRIUS Internet Radio. SIRIUS Internet Radio gives you access to over 80 channels of programming. Pandora® creates customized Internet radio streams just for you — all you have to do is enter the name of your favorite song or artist. And because Sonos connects directly to the Internet for all of these music services, you don't even have to turn on your PC.
You can have up to 32 Sonos music players in your system, and each one can play an independent selection of individual tracks or playlists. Listen to jazz in the den while your spouse plays rock music in the kitchen, or pump a single playlist of songs throughout the entire house during a party.
From the review The Sonos Sub: big-bass sound, one-button setup
"Before adding the Sub, I thought my Sonos system sounded great. But adding the Sub gave a whole new dimension to every song I play. In the acoustic tracks, the bottom end really filled out and I heard more depth in bass guitar and drum notes. In songs with a deeper, more-pounding bass track, the Sub really took off."

Really adds a lot of depth to the music and theater setup.
Add this to a SONOS SOUNDBAR and you won't regret it. Paired up instantly and has worked flawlessly for two weeks now with zero issues.
Pros: Easy to setup Sounds great
Cons: Absolutely ZERO cons.
Quite disappointed. Sonos 5s are one of the best wireless speaker I have ever heard. Very satisfied with them. Adding a sub is a waste of money. It made no difference. I just received mine...had to contact sonos technical dpt as at Cruthfield tech support were unable to help Me. I was helped by sonos to set it up. At the end a little better bass sound with some specific types of music. Nothing else. Better to invest the money in an additional sonos 5 second generation.
Cons: Everything else.
Sub sounds surprisingly good. Unfortunately with the router I have from UVerse, it will not connect wirelessly with my Soundbar. I wish Sonos would figure this out as running a wire to my soundbar defeats the purpose of what originally attracted me to Sonos.
Pros: Looks good, sounds good, easy connectivity (if you have a compatible router).
Cons: Pricey, not compatible with all home routers.
We are very pleased with the Sonos soundbar. Sound is crisp and clear.
Pros: easy to install
I am using this Sub with two paired (L/R) PLAY:3 speakers. The sub really fills out the lower end of the frequency spectrum and this is especially noticeable as volume increases. If you don't have room for the new PLAY:5, adding a Sub to PLAY:3s will definitely get you a complete sonic experience.
Pros: Ease of setup, tight bass, no rattles
Even though this is a beautiful subwoofer, you could put it any where in the room, the spot that worked for us was up high and out of sight. It worked great to lay it on it's side using the foot pads supplied. Its sounds Great!
Pros: Heavy and substantial
Cons: Heavy and substantial
Paired with a Sonos Sound Bar (obviously) and couldn't be happier with the setup. Great sound, great design, and absolutely superb.
Pros: Sound Adjustments Design
It's amazing the difference the sub does in our open living room/kitchen and dinning area. We have Klipsh ceiling speakers and to get decent song we had to turn up the volume higher then I really want to. With the Sub that issue was resolved and now we have even at low volume full sound.
Pros: Great sound, easy set up.
Cons: Definitely a heavy piece and slightly on the high side cost wise. Wish it was $499, then I would by one more.
I wasn't sure that a sub that is so compact could sound so good. The missing piece to my Sonos system.
Pros: Great sound Compact size
Cons: High price
A mark of an excellent sub is hearing the bass it without knowing exactly its coming from. You can barely tell from which direction the bass is coming from with this unit. Further, if you get real close to it, the bass becomes less noticeable. Somehow they figured out how to inundate your living room with glorious bass without over-thumping the area where the sub is placed. Beautifully Done!
Pros: Clear inundating bass, sleek looking
It does not have unnecessary bass the entire show you are watching. Just clean perfect sounding bass which the producers meant to have.
Pros: Looks cool, sounds great and pairs well with the playbar.
I don't have the most discerning ear but I am into a good sound system that is easy to use and doesn't break my budget. Sonos covers all the bases for me. I have previously purchased two of their 3 series speakers and a sound bar. I was using the speakers for music and the sound bar for the TV. While the sound bar worked well with the TV, I was looking (listening) for a richer, deeper sound; and the Sonos Sub met my desire. Set up was quick and far easier than expected. I, especially liked the sub setup routine allowing me to set the bass response. I've even found that grouping the speakers, and the sound bar/sub was very simple and provides, for me, a full spectrum sound. Though it's not as wireless as my wife would want (each unit has a power chord) it's easy to hid the chords.
Pros: Ease of set up Rich sound Easy to couple with other Sonos components
Cons: Couldn't buy the entire system at once due to price.
Simple setup with amazing results. It took 1-2 minutes to setup. I even used it outside for a party (temporary setup) and I was blown away by the quality and ability to fill the area with rich sound. Easy to move around if needed.
Pros: All good
Cons: I would love to have a weather-proof version for outside but this is a dream and was clearly not the intent.
Takes care of the bass for music and the thumping for movies. Nice piece of equipment.
Pros: Proficient. Does its job and dresses smartly.
Sub is excellent, super easy to configure, sounds great for its size.
Pros: Easy to configure
Sub sounds awesome. Deep bass as Sonos describes.
Easy to pair to the system and sounds good. I like it.
Pros: Versatility and easy of installation
This sub is everything I expected and more. Beautiful design and build, deeply satisfying, tight, clean bass, and ordering through crutchfield is always a pleasure.
Amazing when paired with a playbar
Holy cow this thing thumps. Feel like high school days with two 12" subs in a band pass box rocking in the truck of my car! Being able to lower the bass with the EQ is the best. I had to turn it down or the neighbors would think I opened up a strip club at the house.
Pros: All the boom you want
The Sub is easy to connect and looks and sounds great!
Pros: Looks sharp great design, sounds great.
Cons: a bit pricy.
Very pleased with complete system only downfall is the price.
Pros: Enhances movies and tv shows Makes big difference on music It's wireless
Easy to set up and gives a really nice bass output.
Pros: easy set up
Bought this sub after purchasing two play 3's. It made a huge different for me. Glad I made the purchase even though the price was a little steep. Planning on purchasing the playbar to create a 5.1 to replace my current Harmon Kardon SB30.
Pros: Very powerful. It added a lot just to the play 3's. I would imagine you wouldn't want to buy the playbar without the sub.
Cons: A little expensive but worth it with what you can do with the Sonos system as a whole.
I had only the Sonos Soundbar, which sounded quite good. But, when I added the SUB, it was amazing. Makes a world of difference.
Pros: Very good addition to overall sound and listening experience. Really will thump your chest when the artist calls for it. But, is not overbearing when the artists did not intend an accentuated bass part.
Cons: None other than the fact that i would have bought it a lot sooner if it was less expensive. But it is worth what I paid.
This item was purchased with the Sonos PlayvBar and performed as expected. It's a little pricey but compared to Bose's similar system the price is very competitive.
Pros: Great sound. Easy to setup.
Cons: A little pricey.
I purchased this to go with the PlayBar, but ended up returning the Sub. It was overpowering the 16 x 16 room. When I turned the Sub down to prevent ear fatigue, there were low parts of the music I felt were missing compared to listening to the Playbar alone. If I had a larger room, I might have kept it. It did definitely help with music on the two Play 1's I have, but I can't justify the high cost to pair with two small speakers. The Play 1's sound really, really good as they are, especially in stereo mode. Watching TV, I only noticed it during movies. It was not used much during normal broadcasts like talk shows, sports, etc. Which is really what I expected. Warning, Sub gets loud. It gets loud enough that it makes me think my house will start falling apart similar to when you hear a rattling and buzzing car with a huge bass thumping down the road.
Pros: Really helps the low notes of the music when paired with Play 1's.
Cons: felt it overpowered the Playbar Bass gets very deep, I noticed my ears would be sore after listening to music (some people my consider this a plus) Price
Sounds great and was super easy to hook up! Have had no problems as of yet with anything, only negative I would say is the price...
Pros: Great sound!
Cons: A little pricey.
Great with the stero as with home theater for the TV it rarely emits any sound but I really do like it with the stero.
Pros: great sound and easy to set-up
Cons: price for actual contribution to Tv sound bar
Good quality product.
Pros: Great sound for downloaded movies and music.
Cons: Does an ok job with tv programming.
The soundbar alone sounds ok but the subwoofer totally makes it a fuller more pleasing sound.
Pros: Better overall sound to Sonos system
Great sounding sub and works well with my Sonos system. Clean, tight base.
Pros: Great product. Easy set up.
I can't say enough about Sonos and the incredible difference it has made to my music and TV listening experience. I purchased the Sub along with the Playbar after having tested their sound capability at a local high fidelity store. The Sub adds nice deep and rich tones and rounds out your listening experience. If you don't have the means to purchase both at the same time, the Playbar is quite remarkable. However, save up and add the Sub soon because it does make a difference.
Pros: Nice rich and deep bass tones, ease of adding to your Sonos network, aesthetically appealing in black piano finish.
Cons: pricey but worth the price.
I was a bit hesitant to order another product after having already bought a Playbar, but I say if you're going to invest in Sonos, do it right. The Playbar by itself was a very nice product, clear sound, but the sub really brings out the boom. It's not just hammering volume, but really complements it perfectly. Lovely for movies, music, and sports. And I find that since I got the Sonos I play to the music on my Iphone much more wirelessly through Sonos. Great item.
Pros: a bit pricey.
Cons: unsurpassed sound. Minimal wires, wife is happy.
No words to describe how great the sound quality is
Pros: amazing sound quality
Cons: Wish it would come with remote. Cumbersome to connect through wi-fi. Basic computer connection knowledge helps.
This sub is fantastic! It blends perfectly with the Playbar and Play 1 surrounds, and it rocks the house!!
This is the best sub out there at the moment
The SONOS SUB picks up even the softest bass so that you're listening to the full sound - it's amazing. You don't have make the walls and windows vibrate, but the SUB is quite capable if that's your pleasure. The controls allow you to adjust the blend of bass exactly the way you like it.
Pros: The overall design and audio engineering on this product is outstanding; well worth the price.
Expensive but worth it. Really makes my Play 5 and Play 3 come alive. Sounds great for both music and movies.
Pros: High quality.
I have the Sonos sound bar and 2 Play Ones. overall sound was OK. when I added the Sonos Sub, it made such a huge difference. The sound really pops.
Pros: great design and pleasing to the eye/
Cons: Perhaps price but it is really well built.
I like the SONOS system, deep bass but not overwhelming, clear and great with movies and music
Pros: Great wuality
Cons: Price, but I guess you get what you pay for. If the system were not so expensive I would give it 5 stars.
Coupled this sub with the Sonos Playbar. The combination sounds fantastic. The sub is not too large, allowing you to fit it in discreet locations. While small, I actually have the EQ set to half power as to not disturb my neighbors. This sub has plenty of power and is more than capable of filling a 1000 sq ft area where it's located. Highly recommend using with Sonos Playbar.
Pros: very well made
Great sub - have it paired with the SONOS playbar matched to my new SHARP AQUOS 60 inch. It works really well.
Pros: well balanced bass; easy setup. Looks great.
Cons: a bit pricey.
expensiv equipment but does not have too many option. I do not like it and may return it.
This sub woofer adds nicely to my TV sound. Doesn't make much difference with TV shows, but works well for movies.
Last element in my home theater set up and what a difference it makes! Worth every penny. Plug and play.
Pros: Incredibly full sound and simple to add on to the system.
Cons: None to date.
Gives extra quality to sonos sound bar.
Pros: Excellent sound quality
Cons: Size and price
When I received this sub I was pleasantly surprised how havy it was and how very well made this sub. I like the design and most important how substantial this sub has improve the sound of my sonos system. As any sonos component it was breeze to install and use, 5 star as usual with sonos. I would definitely recommend to any one who is serous about music sound and want to create truly amazing music experience. This sub is not cheap but as always you get what you paid for and I have no regrets.
Pros: Great sound beutifull design very well made
Cons: I couldn't find one
I have to admit I was a bit hesitant to buy a subwoofer for $700 but WOW, am I glad I did! The sound bar itself is in a class of its own and with the sub added it is in a class of its own. I also have multiple Play 3's and music sounds great paired with this sub.
Pros: Sounds Great! Versatile
Cons: None that I can find.
Have a Playbar for my TV in a NYC apartment. TV speakers needed help - while the playbar adds some depth to the sound, it is hindered by lack of bass. The Sonos Sub cures this in spades. Its big (3 shoeboxes) and heavy but gives off no vibration. Helps with TV sound, Movie sound and music through the playbar. My only reservation is that the playbar itself needs this in order to do the proper job. So, the Sub is good - the playbar is OK
Pros: Attractive; no vibration, very good sonicaly
Cons: None with the sub; some with the Playbar. As noted above, this is pretty necessary if you have the playbar and its a good piece of equipment.
The Sonos SUB really opens up the sound of the sound bar. Fantastic bass clarity and realistic sound.
Pros: Easy to install Accurate and clear sound reproduction
Received the SUB about a week after receiving the soundbar and two Play 1s. This delay led to an instant appreciation of the bass enhancement provided by the unit. It was (and is) spectacular! The "tuning" of the output was extremely easy and allowed me to adjust the bass level for the room and my ear. Until I installed the SUB I was not convinced that I "needed" it. The bass from the soundbar and the Play 1s was not bad. However, I have been completely won over to the benefits of the SUB. It really rounds out the whole sound system. When this system was presented to me by the sales representative I was blown away by the concept of the WiFi design. However, the cost of SONOS systems was almost prohibitive. The versatility of the design won out and I decided to try out the system. I am extremely happy with my decision and can't wait to add more components.
Pros: Easy setup. Great booming bass.
This product is awesome. Gives great addition in sounds to the sonos speakers.
This sub definitely enhanced my sonos speaker system. I have an open floor plan and I can sense the bass from the sub throughout my kitchen and family room. I'm glad I ordered a week after I bought the playbar; as oppose to waiting a longer time. You won't regret it. I like the fact that you can control the bass for the sub through the app, as oppose to going to the sub and messing with a turn knob.
Pros: Great sound, from low to high...truly enhances music-listening and tv-watching experience, awesome that it can be placed anywhere (as long as power is connected to it)
Recently added this sub to my Playbar, and it really enhances the sound quality of the Playbar. Full sound in a very large room
Pros: Room Filling Sound
I was happy with the PLAYBAR, but had read additional reviews on the SUB and decided to give it a try. The result was a much enhanced audio experience; the SUB is not overwhelming (and is configurable anyway) but really brings out the low end in movies, TV, and music.
It will give your music a richer, fuller sound. So easy to set up as all of the sonus products have been. Sub looks great in LR.
Recently removed my home theater consisting of Definitive Technology speakers and an Epik Empire Subwoofer. Decided to go the Sonos route. Purchased a Sonos Amp and Play 5, was extremely happy, so I purchased the Playbar and Sub. I tried different positions and ended up placing the sub under my chair, with no noticeable sound difference. I'm blown away by the sound quality of the playbar and sub. This was just what I needed.
Pros: Small, hidden, great bass even in a large room
After having the Sonos sound bar for about four months, I decided to add the Sub. The Sonos Sound Rar was the third such device I had attached to my TV, and it was far better than the other brand names. The Sub has improved the clarity of the sound from the sound bar, and was worth adding
Pros: Much better sound from the TV and the Internet radio broadcasted over the Sonos system.
Cons: It's expensive, really speaking.
Pros: So easy to set up. Sounds awesome
Cons: bit spendy
The SUB is a must purchase if you buy the Sonos Playbar. Will rock the house!
Pros: Great companion to the Sonos Playbar.
Cons: Absolutely none!
Sub adds a nice richness to the pair of Play 5's I have in the living room. Easy set-up, as you would expect from Sonos.
I added the Sonos Sub in a room where I have two Play:5s paired together. While I have always enjoyed my paired Play:5s, adding the Sub really seemed to improve the performance and sound from the Play:5s. I am truly enjoying the Sonos listening experience but now even more with the Sub.
Pros: Improved listening experience Easy set-up
This system is easy to set up and use. Ziggy in Customer Service did great. Expensive, but the neighbors down the street get to enjoy my play list. Halloween in the neighborhood will not be the same this year! I matched this with a pair of Definitive AW6500. Loud, Clear and Easy to set up and use. Worth the $$$!
Pros: Loud and Clear. Easy to use and set up.
Cons: Wireless Sub is expensive, a pain to lug in and out of the house onto the deck. Have to reconnect every time to the unit. But once hooked up? WOW!!!!!
Sonos Sub: The Sonos Sub is a wireless powered subwoofer, designed to add deep bass (down to 25 Hz) to your Sonos listening experience. The Sub works with any amplified Sonos player, including the Play:1, Play:3, & Play:5, plus the Sonos Connect:Amp & Playbar (all sold separately). It does not work with un-amplified Sonos players, such as the Connect (ZP90).
Woofer & Amplifier Design: The Sonos Sub features two force-canceling speakers (3" x 6" race-track shaped drivers) positioned face-to-face to provide deep, rich bass with no resonance from the cabinet. The speakers are powered by two Class-D digital amplifiers, perfectly tuned to match the speakers. The speakers are mounted into a unique cabinet that features an acoustic slot and dual acoustic ports that encircle the enclosure to enhance the Sub's performance.
Wireless Connection: The Sonus Sub can be associated with any amplified Sonos powered speaker or the Sonos Playbar. It Works on your home WiFi network with any 802.11b/g, 2.4GHz broadcast capable router. It lso works on SonosNet, a secure AES encrypted, peer-to-peer wireless mesh network dedicated exclusively for your Sonos system to reduce WiFi interference.
Setup: Once you have positioned the Sub in the room, you can press the Join button on the side of the Sub in order for the system to recognize it. The system automatically adjusts the audio settings to perfectly balance the Sub and the paired Sonos component for best performance. All of the filter settings, active equalization, and time alignment are done digitally through a state-of-the-art Digital Signal Processor (DSP). During setup, you will be prompted, through the Sonos Controller software, to set the subwoofer's level and phase. In some cases, you will be prompted to select the size of the stereo speakers (compact, bookshelf/ceiling, or floor) connected to the amplified player. If you move the Sub to another room, you can easily reconfigure the audio and room association settings.
Note: Make sure all of your Sonos components have the latest software update installed.
Ethernet & AC Power: The Sub has only two connections, both located on the bottom of the enclosure: the power cord connection, and a single Ethernet port (RJ-45) for connecting the Sub to a wired home network.
Placement: Out of the box, the Sonos Sub is designed to stand upright on the integrated rubber feet. You can also lay the sub horizontally on its side, if desired. Four self-adhesive felt feet are provided, if you choose to mount the Sub on its side. A guide for placing the felt feet on the Sub is included.

Great reviews. [ Jeff Dec 05, 2015 ]
I wouldn't recommend it. I'm sure it'll still make noise in that arrangement, but I doubt it would sound as great as it does in typical setup. If you were going to lay it flat, you'd want to attach some kind of feet to the side it's on to isolate it from the floor. Heat dissipation with the built-in amp could be another issue with putting it in a confined space. It doesn't have forced cooling, so it also might not cool itself as well on its side. Lastly, this thing looks awesome; why would you want to hide it under a couch? [ Todd Sep 25, 2015 ]
I think it will but not as effective. Give SONOS a call directly for advice if that is your only option before you buy it. [ VINCENT Sep 24, 2015 ]
This will not fit under my couch. Way too big for that. [ Tim Sep 24, 2015 ]
Yes! Doesn't matter - great sound anyplace [ ANDREW Sep 24, 2015 ]
Jeff - So sorry for the delay. I have this currently connected to a wireless router. Looks like this is what will be required to run this Sub. I hope this helps. [ BRANDAN Feb 23, 2014 ]
The sound bar can be paired with the sub for "3.1" surround sound. It must be connected to the sonos network and thus indirectly to the router. It does not need to be physically connected to the router. [ MICHAEL Jan 30, 2014 ]
No, you do not need to connect it to the router. Only 1 Sonos device (Play 5 or Bridge and perhaps others) needs to connect to the router. [ John Jan 30, 2014 ]
I tried, but I was told when calling Sonus that I needed a Sonus Bridge. So I got one. The system works fine. [ WILLIAM H Jan 30, 2014 ]
It will connect to your Sonos system, but will only be used with the soundbar. You will select the way it's used during set-up. Sonos set-up is step by step and very easy to understand. [ JULIAN Jan 29, 2014 ]
It connects wirelessly with the rest of your Sonos components. If the only other Sonos comp you have is the sound bar, you need a wireless bridge to tie it to your wifi. Or, if you have any other Sonos comp connected directly by Ethernet to your route that works, too. The Sub only needs to be plugged into AC power to work. [ MICHAEL B Jan 29, 2014 ]
The sub is completely wireless with the exception of AC power. It can be placed anywhere. [ ERIC L Jan 29, 2014 ]
I have connected the soundbar to the home router via the sonos bridge...the sub is configured and used with the soundbar and is grouped together...hope that helps.. [ Sitaram Jan 29, 2014 ]
No you can just add it to the play bar. [ Paul Jan 29, 2014 ]
The Sonos Sub will connect to the Playbar wirelessly through your wireless network. Just plug it in anywhere in the room and the Sonos App will guide you through the setup pairing it with the Playbar. [ KELLY Jan 29, 2014 ]
no - just pug it in the wall and its wireless from there. you might need their bridge unit which does hook into the router but i think they give that to you at nocharge. sounds great - i got the sound bar first and the sub really adds to it. i plan on adding 2 singles later to create a full surround. [ SAM Jan 29, 2014 ]
