Access Pandora® Internet radio, Spotify®, Apple Music™, Rhapsody®, SiriusXM, and 100,000 free Internet radio stations — no matter where you are in your home. The compact Sonos® PLAY:3 lets you enjoy music from the Internet as well as songs stored on your home computers — without filling your room with audio gear. It's perfect for small rooms and cozy corners, and setup is as easy as pushing a button.
Place Sonos players, like the PLAY:3 and the larger PLAY:5, in every room where you want to listen to music. You can set up the players to work on your existing Wi-Fi® network. Or, you can connect any Sonos speaker to your network router, and Sonos will create its own dedicated wireless network for even better performance. You can also use a BOOST to create this network if you can't place a speaker near your router.
You can use an iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad®, or Android™ phone to control any and all Sonos players. A free download turns your smartphone and tablet into a full-fledged Sonos controller. Easily navigate and search through playlists and tracks stored on your computer, or select an Internet radio station. Create customized playlists on the fly for individual rooms or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can also mute or adjust the volume of each of your players.
If you use your Sonos control app on an iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®, great news. You can use your iOS® device to fine-tune the PLAY:3 with Sonos's Trueplay feature. It uses the mic built into your device to measure how the sound reflects off your walls and furnishings, and then it adjusts the speaker's settings for the best possible sound. Trueplay works with every PLAY:1, PLAY:3, and PLAY:5 speaker in your system. (Currently for iOS devices only.)
The Sonos system works seamlessly with a host of streaming music services, including Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Rhapsody, TIDAL and more. You also have access to thousands of Internet radio stations from around the world through TuneIn Radio, and terrestrial radio stations through iHeartRadio. If you subscribe to SiriusXM Internet Radio, you can tune into all your favorite programming on any Sonos player in your system.
Sonos gives you convenient wireless access to music and podcasts stored in the Music app of your iOS devices, for playback throughout your entire Sonos system. This function works on devices running iOS6 or later (see below for full list of compatible Apple devices). The system even lets you connect a combination of up to 16 PCs, Mac® computers, smartphones, tablets, and digital music storage devices from your home network simultaneously.
Queue up songs from your iPhone to play in the kitchen while you cook, while your spouse streams a podcast in the den from the family computer, and your children use their tablet to enjoy music from their kid-friendly Pandora station — all at the same time.
You can have up to 32 Sonos music players in your system, and each one can play an independent selection of individual tracks or playlists. Listen to jazz in the den while your spouse plays rock music in the kitchen, or pump a single playlist of songs throughout the entire house during a party.

Easy to set up. Great sound. Anyone with an iphone can use it
Excellent speaker. Easy set up. Great support.
I bought this one to place in our living room. The sound difference between this one and the "one" is not huge for the size room we have, which is a large room. I was expecting more. But once I used the tuning feature on the controller, the speaker came alive and sounds great.
Simply put - it just works. We bought two and connected them with Boost to create a mesh network that pulls directly from our NAS where we have all of our music shared.
Excellent speaker. We were looking for speakers to use throughout our home but needed wifi as we didn't want to run wires. These worked flawlessly. Thanks!
The play 3 sounds great and the pairing with other sonos appliances is easy and efficient. Highly recommend!
Bought this speaker to add streaming music to my kitchen. Was a very very simple install, user interface amazing, and did the job very well. I was not as impressed with the sound quality, as after all the reviews I read I thought I would have been blown away. The sound is good, but it is not "blow away" quality. I was debating getting the Sonos Play1, but opted for a slightly better speaker, and glad I did, as if the Play3 is adequate for my application I believe the Play1 I would not have been happy with. Just my guess
Pros: Simple install - plug in, configure, play music
Just bought another Play 3. Already had another Play 3 and two Play 1's running in stereo mode. So convenient to run the Sonos App on the iPhone, The Galaxy S5, and a Kindle Fire HD.
Pros: Easy to select music on the Sonos App; easy to set up; easy to link to each other.
I listened to the PLAY:1, PLAY:3 and PLAY:5 and the local big box electronics store and was impressed by all of the SONOS products. I finally went on Crutchfield and ordered the PLAY:3 and I was super glad I did. Even though the PLAY:3 was set up in a pretty large room, the sound fills up the entire downstairs of my house. It sounded way better than it did at the store and the hook up and the controls are super easy. I am a bit of an audiophile (the PLAY:3 was not replacing my home component system) and I was throughly impressed.
Pros: Great sound quality. Easy to set up and easy to use.
Easy to set-up and use. Great software! Most importantly - Terrific Sound!
Pros: Easy to set-up and use. Very nice sound.
Cons: Expensive to use the entire Sonos system!
Our fourth Sonos speaker and it sounds just as good as the rest. I forget how easy they are to setup as well. Takes about 15 seconds once it's plugged into the wall.
Pros: High quality sound and easy setup.
Cons: A little on the pricey side.
Big sound from such a small speaker. Easy to set up and use. Sonos is awesome.
Pros: Sound, easy to use, local radio, etc.
Cons: Cant stream youtube
I was pleasantly surprised with how good this speaker sounds for such a small footprint. I have this on a nightstand in a large bedroom and the sound rivals another famous brand larger wireless speaker. It took a few tries to get it connected wirelessly, but once connected it was easy to get iTunes, Pandora and all of my other internet stations synced. I also added a Play:1 in the master bathroom and I love how music syncs perfectly. I will be adding the new Play:5 in the kitchen, once it becomes available. I'm sold on Sonos!
Pros: Easy to sync your music. Very good sound quality. The Sonos app is great. Love the sleep timer and alarm.
Cons: It took multiple tries to get it connected wirelessly.
Great sound and easy setup. I did have to try connecting twice before it connected properly with the home wireless router, but I do not blame the sonos player for that issue. Highly recommended as you can easily move it from one room to another as needed.
We've used Sonos amps to run in-ceiling speakers, but this is the first Sonos speaker that we purchased (for portable use on the deck) and the sound quality is surprisingly good for such a small speaker. We're already big fans of the Sonos interface and the number of streaming options and now we're sold on their speaker quality too!
Pros: Small, great sound quality, easy interface
Cons: A bit expensive, but I think you get what you pay for
Adding to existing Sonos 3 and sound bar. Easiest setup and sounds and looks great! Another 1 and 3 on my shopping list.
i placed 2 play 3s in our living room. love the fullness and can't wait to add onto the system around the house. easiest set up in the world
Pros: size, white/grey option- wife loves it/ fullness of sound, ease of use, great app- easy to add XM, pandora, personal library...louder than previous shelf speakers
Very easy to set up and use. The sound is good for such a small footprint.
Good speakers. Got them for surround sound. Nice too for other locations where ever you have an outlet.
Pros: Solid. Good sound. Portable.
Using in our 4 seasons room. Sounds and looks great
Pros: Sound & Looks
I purchased a Play 1 for our basement a few months ago because on poor radio reception, and was so pleased and impressed with the sound I purchased a Play 3 for our newly remodeled Kitchen. It fills the entire room with a truly deep and rich sound much superior to the radio and radio reception we had previously. I'm sold on Sonos !
Pros: Deep and Rich sound with no loss of signal like a radio. Easy set-up.
Great compliment to my SONOS system. Definitely will add other speakers.
Pros: Great sound.
This unit sits next to a Bose Wave speaker in my home and sounds muffled in comparison. Mid-tones are lost, and the high's sound tinny. Overall it sounds like the speaker is wrapped in a blanket. I very much love the Sonos software, but this speaker left me far from impressed with the audio quality.
Pros: Slick software, great integration.
Cons: Sound quality is mediocre at best - comparable speakers from companies like Bose (and even Logitech) sound much better.
Killer product. This in the 8th room/zone in my collection and I couldn't be happier. It has great sound and bass whether it is being used inside or out. And there is plenty of volume.
Pros: Volume, sound, base, appearance, construction
Cons: Takes a minute or two to be "discovered" when first plugged in. Smooth sailing thereafter.
This is a great product, my second Play:3. Love them in groups, love them in Stereo mode, and can individually adjust volume levels in group mode. Great sound quality and plenty of setting options for my needs.
Pros: sound quality, stereo options, group options
Cons: none for me
I started with Play1 and then ordered a Play:3, then two more Play:1's. Play 1's are in kitchen, den, bedroom, and Play:3 covers living & dining rooms. I generally do not blast music, but testing out the volume of these was certainly impressive. I believe the Play:3 would meet even the most demanding audiophile's needs for a larger room, perhaps up to 400 ft2 or so. The sound quality is exceptional, and the SONOS system is user-friendly and easy to set up. I liked buying from Crutchfield: great service, fair price, and everything came quickly, well-packaged, and unopened. I would highly recommend this product, and all SONOS products, and this seller.
Pros: Superior quality, excellent sound, easy to set up, great system.
Cons: Pricier than other options, but well worth the money.
Great big sound. I use outside on the patio, and it fills the space. I will purchase again.
We are very pleased. We have never had an up to date sound system and we could not be happier. I got the two Play 3's and we are probably going to add at least one more. I was thinking that we would use it mainly for entertaining, but my wife likes to play her music all the time.
Pros: easy to unpack and works perfectly with Spotify
Cons: Took a little work to figure out how to get the playlist going. I had to enlist the help of a 17 year old who had no problem with it.
This is my second Sonos product, I have a Sonos Play 5 in a large shop area at work and it sounds awesome. I have the Sonos Play 3 in my living room and sometimes take it on the back patio and it works great and sounds great in a smaller area.
Pros: Great sound for a small speaker.
Cons: Some connection issues with the smartphone app.
Perfect little speaker. I don't think I would be happy with the Play 1 that's why I only have the 3's. Just pay the extra $100 already you cheapo.
Pros: Awesome sound for a smaller speaker
Very nice size and excellent sound from these wireless speakers. Setting up the system was very easy using the Sonos application on my phone.
Pros: Wireless which makes placement very easy. Using the Sonos app. you can adjust settings to make your placement. Everything can be controlled from your phone including volume and equalization.
Perfect sound for our family room. Have multiple speakers in house. Best surround sound to have
I already had One Sonos component and added this speaker. It took about one minute to set up. It has great sound and I love the capabilities within Sonos to group speakers.
Pros: Sound, set up
My third Play 3. One in the Kitchen, Two as a stereo pair in the living room. Amazing range for such a small box. When Sonos says "All The Music on Earth", they are not kidding. Jazz in the Living Room, Classical in the kitchen, at the same time! Never had a problem with drop outs or shutting down, just plays and plays. Some say it's little pricey...you get what you pay for! My boost is on the second floor, speakers are on the first..no problem!
Pros: easy setup apps for mobile devices great sound
These things are wonderful. I am using 1,3 and 5's really big sound in a small package. So nice to have sound everywhere in your home. The sound quality is excellent. If you pair them in stereo, OMG. As with any network device, It is best if you can wire it. Or in my case I wired as much of it as I could. I am in an apartment and there is a lot of interference. I had a lot of issues with the signal dropping, even with the Boost. I contacted SONOS customer service, WOW that is what customer service is supposed to be. I ran a diagnostic for them. Within a couple of minutes. they spotted the issue and I was able to correct it.
Cons: Wireless is wireless. But still better then bluetooth.
Originally bought the Sound Bar with the Play 1's. It sounded tinny. Not enough bass from both components. And using the1's as back speakers for surround sound, I wasn't even sure they were on unless I went right up to them A week later I ordered the Subwoofer and the Play 3's. Hooked up the subwoofer 1st and the sound was much much better still using the 1's. Then I swapped out the 1's for the 3's and was even better and could distinctly here the 3's playing and adding much more to the surround effect than the 1's. I'm keeping the 1's for just a stand alone for deck or other rooms of the house.
Pros: Significantly better than the 1's
Great sound and easy to set-up. Will add the small Play 1 for the Kitchen.
Pros: Rich sound and easy to connect to Pandora.
Cons: The Sonos controller has lost the connection to the Sonos system. Had to reboot The Sonos Boost.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality sound that comes from this small speaker. Its sounds great. And the software is really easy to install on iPhones and iPads. My only beef is I had to reburn a bunch of old CD's because Sonos couldn't read the old iTunes metatag data for album names and ratings.
Pros: Sound, ease of use
Cons: Had to reburn old (loaded before 2007) CD's back into iTunes.
This is stylish, sounds great, and hooks up just as simply as it says it will. I probably would have gotten a smaller one for my kitchen, but now that I know how good they are, I'll do that and move this one to a larger room. Really a full room, big speaker sound.
Pros: Great, rich sound. Easy to install.
added this to my system to create full stereo in living room. Great upgrade to an already great system.
Seems a bit pricey, but sounds better than expected. At quiet volumes you miss a few of the upper mids and it seems a bit bassy, but at respectable and loud volumes it sounds great. It's dead easy to setup, and it has unmatched compatibility to different devices and services (Songza, etc.). The wireless is the way to go. We used to buy docks for our phones, but then you can't use your phones when they're playing music, and more importantly the docks become obsolete or incompatible when you get new phones (iPhones are particularly fussy - we use iPhones and Samsungs in this house and they both work with the Sonos). It's also cool that you can expand your system as much or as little as you want.
Pros: Compact. Easy to use. Quality sound. Expandable. Compatibility.
I never tried "crack' but I'm guessing it's like Sonos stuff. Once you try it you just keep buying more and more of it even though it's crazy expensive. Started with one Play 5, then got another one and stereo paired them. Huge mistake! Now I just bought 2 Play 3s. They are surprisingly good but of course now I need to purchase the Playbar and the Sub ;( I think I need to rob a convenience store or something. Think I will check my wife's purse when I get home. I am very happy with the Sonos speakers. I listen to music much, much more often since I purchased my first Play 5. My advice is buy any of the Sonos speakers to get started and then figure out how you will pay for the rest later!
Pros: Simple to set up. Very convenient to use. Sound is very good (not perfect).
Cons: You have to turn to a life of crime to pay for the things! (Wonder if they will let me use them in jail?)
I paired the three with two ones and my house and they work great.
Pros: You can select individual speaker music and sound level.
Cons: It still has to be plugged in and there are no sonos outdoor speakers yet.
Where to begin. Im a electrical engineer and thought this would be a pretty easy set up. Wow. This is not great, I really want to open this thing up and look at what they put in this. I guarantee it's not quality and the programming to run is not robust. I got it to play right out of the box. Thought, "Great just as advertised." Then it quit dropping, couldnt find the Sonos network. So I looked and test the signal thoughout the house (again) and found I had a strong wifi signal in every spot of the house. I reloaded it from scratch. And got it to work again. Then the same problems. After tinkering with location of the device, moving my entire computer and wifi system to more central area's of the house. Nothing. Then it quit working all together. So, I read about the "Boost". Went out and bought that, thought a hard wired dedicated SONOs network was the ticket. Problem is, nothing I do will get the boost to connect or come up. I again, deleted everything, reset everything and started from scratch. Again! Nothing. Wont work. I been reading allot of Blogs and it seem's I am not alone. A great idea in "theory" but the company just hasnt cracked the code. They really should actually test this stuff. But I am sure they are enough people in the bubble that this works for that it won't get fixed. Also, just so you know, any music from ITUNES before 2010 download will not play on SONOS. Unless you reload it all down again. Apple site usless.
Pros: Pretty packaging and smart concept.
Cons: Just isn't robust enough.
The sound is incredible from such a small unit. Could not be simpler to set up - in 10 minutes I had it running from my laptop, phone and iPAD. Small enough that it can easily be moved from room to room if desired, but fills even a good-sized room with full-spectrum sound. A bonus is the software's connectivity to streaming radio from a huge number of stations/sites/genres. I'll be buying more of these for other parts of my house!
Pros: Small (portable) but still great sound Ease of setup Connectivity to wi-fi radio
Amazing sound from such a small unit. We use a Sonos bridge to play through the HIFI Amp and fixed speakers and this sublime to any room where we need additional sound - even in the garage if we go out there to throw some darts
Pros: Small, portable, light, great sound sand easy set up
Set up is easy and sound is fine, but very difficult to set up Apple file sharing.
Pros: Easy to set up and good sound.
Cons: Difficult to share music files.
Simply amazing. Cheaper and better than a hard wired multi room sound system. And the best option even if you just want a single speaker to play music from your phone.
Pros: Setup can't be any simpler, sound quality is very very good, and the app is very well designed.
Cons: Addicting. I want to put one in every room of the house.
Easy instillation, great sound
Speaker sounds much better then I thought it would. I own two play 5's and this play 3 and it sounds great. Set it up in the garage hanging from the ceiling and its out of the way and sounds nice.
Pros: Sounds great and easy to use
Cons: non so far
Purchased two of the Play 3 speakers for our game room. Connected to our existing home Sonos system. We also purchased a pair of Bose speaker stands to hold the Play 3 speakers. Nice set-up and sound for a room that's about 20' x 30' in size. Full sound including decent bass without a sub. The Sonos system is so easy to use, it's now our #1 choice for adding more music zones to our home.
Pros: Good sound Well built Easy setup
Great system but lacks Windows Phone & 8 support
Pros: Works wonderfully and setup a breeze
Cons: Lacks Windows Phone & 8 support
Set up quickly and easily and is more than I envisioned-to the extent that I promptly ordered a play 1 for a smaller room and will probably extend further in the future
Pros: Good sound, easily controlled , especially with IPad , IOS, and Android. Amazing variety
Cons: No control from Chromebook or Fedora
It's part of a wonderful system and the expandability, level of control, and ease of use are outstanding. As for this piece itself, it is small and plug in wireless, solid yet unobtrusive and the sound is terrific. It's a miniature amp/speaker system that you can equalize from phone/computer, move around the house or outside; put a few of these together (I have 4) and you have a whole house wireless system with big clear sound and infinite control. Wonderful system so far; I've had it only two weeks or so and use it all the time.
Pros: Sound, size, portability, level and ease of control
Cons: None so far
Easy to set up. Strong, rich sound. I us it in my living room (40'x25') and on my patio (no nearby neighbors). The sounds in both areas is very good.
Pros: Ease of use; rich sound
Cons: Need an electrical outlet
It is a very good small speaker. I think the Play:5 should be considered if a full base response is desired. If a distinct stereo effect is desired, a second Play:3 can be added.
Pros: Good sound for its size, the 5 star rating accounts for not expecting room filling sound from a single speaker this size. Very easy to set up with the Bridge.
Cons: See review above.
see my review under CONNECT:AMP. The PLAY3 added the ability to have great sound in any location not already receiving my Sonos connections. The sound is terrific, and it blows away competitors wireless components by Bose, Apple , and others.
Pros: EASY. GREAT sound, especially high and low freqs.
Cons: They should sell them in multi packs!
The Play:3 rules! Perfect for those larger rooms that the Play:1 can't quite fill all the way with sound. Clear sound, great lows, and (like all SONOS products) superb build quality. Set up is a breeze; SONOS has made the first 100% "wife-proof" system! My wife can whip out her smartphone and have SiriusXM blasting throughout the house in no time flat.
Pros: Easy setup; great sound; amazing build quality
AWESOME 'nuff said.
In addition to my two play 5 speakers, this 3 is a great compromise because of its portability. The 3 is easy to take out to the garage or deck as compared to the 5 which is more of a stationary speaker because of its weight. The sound quality is an 8 compared to the 5 which is a 10. However, this is understandable because of the size of the speakers.
Pros: portability and sound
My wife says "I'm not sure about this purchase, it's a little pricey don't you think?" Now she wants Sonos in every room! Great sound, easy to set up and use! Looking forward to adding to the system soon! Thanks, Crutchfield and Sonos!
Pros: Easy set up and use!
Cons: None so far.
The best products are simple to set and use, and do what they claim. Sonos is a shinning example. Not cheap, but you get your money's worth. However, Sonos is addictive; nobody will buy just one. Set up your first unit, and you will soon feel the urge to fill more rooms with Sonos sound and content.
Pros: Yeah...a bunch of them.
Cons: What to do with all my old CDs..hang them from my rear view mirror? Putting all of my bulky old sound equipment on Craigslist. Also, wishing I had discovered Sonos sooner.
I just receive my play 3 today. Currently I have 2 play5, 1 Connect amp with two bridges (my house is complicate lol). As always it took me more time opening the box than setting the equipment. I just swap one play5 from my master room to my office and replaced with play1 since I'm was looking for aux input for my office PC. It just fill my master room with outstanding and rich sound quality. Play 1, you are next..........
Pros: Easy setup, amazing sound, right price for the performance and functionality
Cons: Let me think......... uhmmm
I recently purchased the Sonos Play:3 and I am very pleased. It was a breeze to setup, within 30 minutes I was able to access ALL my music stored on various computers throughout my home, music stored in Amazon Cloud, as well as, synched to my Pandora and Sirus XM accounts, with my PCs, Ipad and Android phone all set-up to control the unit! The sound was better than expected. Will be adding additional components to the system in the near future.
Pros: Ease of Set-up, compatibility with other devices and software. Sonos has an extensive forum with ideas, help guides and trouble shooting online. Great sound.
Cons: None so far
Spectacular sound in family room set up as stereo pair. Single speaker in bedroom is great for background Easy set up. Sonos app makes controlling everything a snap. Will add outside units soon
Pros: Easy set up. Sound
Great system - Easy set-up! I did a lot of research before choosing Sonos. It's the most versitile and has the best price of comparable systems. The best thing about the Sonos system is that you can play music in as many rooms as you have speakers in and you can play different music from different devices in different rooms. Wish the user interface instructions were a little more detailed; but Crutchfield has great customer service!
I bought 2 Play 3's for a family room where TV watching with a Sonos Playbar or stand alone stereo listening would occur. The "balance" or "fade" between the Play 3's & Playbar is inadequate. There should be more control when associated with the Playbar. There should be an easier way to switch between stereo listening mode & TV-watching-with-a-Playbar mode. Because it is a hassle to reconfigure the Play 3's every time you associate it or disassociate it with the Playbar, it mostly sits in TV mode and the stereo capability isn't realized. That's a lot of wasted money. I would give the Play 3's a higher rating as stand alone speakers -- but that's not why I bought them.
Pros: The Play 3's sound great when they act as left and right channel speakers when not associated with the Playbar. Power plug only gives a clean install. Integrates seamlessly with other Sonos components.
Cons: It is a pain in the neck to disassociate the Play 3's from the Playbar to act as left and right channel speakers for stereo listening. It is a pain in the neck to associate the Play 3's with the Playbar every time you want to watch TV. You have to do the set-up procedure every time you switch between TV and stereo listening. I hope a software update can make this a lot easier because this is not user-friendly. The hype and extolled flexibility of this system didn't jive with the usability.
Purchased the Sonos Play 3 for my son and daughter-in-law as an early Valentine's Day gift - He/they LOVE IT! I also have a Play 3 and two Play 1's and absolutely love them.
Pros: Easy to set up - easy to use - just a joy to listen to.
Cons: So far - none.
The concept, setup, and functionality is great! You can easily set this up to stream music from a PC (or better yet a network drive) as well as seemingly any internet and internet streaming land radio station in the word....and of course internet based music services like Pandora. Control from a PC app is easy and fun. I've had NO issues with buffering, connectivity, or packet loss. The sound is also pretty good considering it's size. I really love this device, but I think you're paying for the concept and development. The components, especially the Connect:AMP which you can use to drive your own speakers, are fairly expensive for what you get. But again, you have to consider that Sonos is really in a category by itself. You're paying for the development.
Pros: Sound. Connectivity. Functionality. Easy set up.
Cons: Price Sonos Android app does not seem to be compatible with my tablet
Bought both the Sonos play 3 and 5. The three for my den and the five for our larger living room. The five certainly has bigger sound, with the bass, but I'm not discounting the three, as it does wonderfully in a smaller space, and accompanies the five nicely when played together in separate rooms with different volume levels, to give a 'stereo' effect. Bottom line is that I greatly enjoy both the three and the five, and will add another three for the master bedroom.
Pros: minimal footprint, great sound, effortless portability, easy set-up
The Play 3 is a great addition to our Play 5. Both speakers produce excellent sound. The Play 3 is a bit smaller and we use it in many rooms throughout the house.
Amazing sound that takes five minutes to setup. Sonos is an amazing system and I am impressed with all of the Internet music options available through the app. I have tried both the Android and iOS (Apple) apps and they are great - in fact the tablet versions are more comprehensive on the screen and worthwhile when you have a tablet available on the network.
Pros: App Controller for the music is simple and looks great. Multiple controllers in the house and synching of my own personal library was easy over DLNA. Every online music system and internet radio easy to setup. Each speaker can play unique music or can be grouped simply...
Cons: Not great for iTunes shares - I haven't found a way to use them. Therefore, music library organization needed to be reworked.
This is my 3rd Play 3, I also have a Play 5 and Connect to play off my surround sound. The play 3 is a wonderful small to average room speaker (I have mine in our kitchen, dining room and now bedroom). I'm pretty critical of my sound as I like a nice clear high end and tight low end without sounding muddy. The SONOS delivers. Being able to walk throughout the entire house and have music playing without losing it as you walk from one room to another is pretty awesome.
Pros: SONOS has delivered on a true high quality wireless home system. And being able to tie in an existing suround sound speaker system through the connect is brilliant
Just a great product! Easy to install, the software works and is very intuitive. This is an additional speaker for my multi room setup and I couldn't be happier with the Sonos product.
Sounds great, set up is not bad if you are careful with instructions.
Excellent speaker with room-filling capability and reasonable bass. Connection to the Sonos network is seamless.
Pros: Great sound, can set up horizontally or vertically.
Cons: Wireless network connectivity from one end of a large house to another is spotty - but more a limitation of my Bridge location than of the technology itself, as I have the same issue with my home PC networking.
Sonos products are amazing! Setup is easy and takes only minutes. They operate flawlessly! Many music options are available, more than any other product. Sound is fantastic! Music fills every room of my house in perfect sync, and can be controlled by any of multiple devices throughout the house. Gone are the days of blasting music in one room to fill the house.. I simply turn everything on at a nice low level and enjoy everywhere! I am so glad I found Sonos, this system is exactly what I have been dreaming of for a very long time!. My musical experience will never be the same again, thank you Sonos!
Pros: Great sound, easy to setup, easy to operate, good looks, many source options, nice selection of varying equipment lets you configure your home in so many different ways, each piece is individually configurable for EQ, volume and other settings, great app support, great software support, flawless operation..
Cons: I'm very hard pressed to find anything wrong with Sonos products, but if I must here are 2 ideas for slight improvement.. 1. Please make every single piece of equipment available in black! 2. Possible include the last missing source option.. Apple Airplay. I don't require it, but I suppose it might make your products that much more appealing to an even larger audience?
I debated taking the plunge for a Sonos system but finally did it. I think the clincher was the free Sonos Bridge that was offered. The unit has decent sound, was easy to install, and all of my music, including iTunes downloads, CD collection, and Pandora, is now in the same place. My kids also downloaded the Sonos controller and use our Play 3 whenever they want.
Pros: good sound, easy set-up, portability
This was an add'l speaker for our existing Sonos system. It's easy to install - like all Sonos products I'v bought!
Sonos is so easy to set up and use. The play 3 has very good sound but after trying out a play 1 ( which had poor sound) the 3 was definitely better. The software is very good, I wish it was able to display the quality of the music stream since I cant tell if its the source or the speaker sound.
Cons: Unplug the speaker and you need to reset it thru the software. There are no presets on the speaker.
Play:3 sounds great by itself. I am a Bose fan, or was, but Sonos out performs the wireless soundtouch by Bose. One play 3 is great but when paired in stereo the sound is so much better. I use the Macronos app for Android and i can stream Google play! Super pleased and will be putting in my new house instead of in-ceiling speakers.
Pros: Great sound and built to last
Cons: use of 3rd party app to play Google play, but at least it is possible with Sonos
Love the sound quality and ease of use - setting up the wireless connection was no problem. I was disappointed to find that there was no rechargeable battery - so you can't unplug and carry to another room or outside. Also, no input jack to connect directly to my mp3 music player. I had assumed that a smaller unit like this would have those things. I should have looked at the specs more closely :(.
Pros: Easy to set up wireless connection, great sound quality
Cons: No rechargeable battery - please make, I would buy! No input jack for my mp3 player.
Brilliant. Simply brilliant.
Pros: Good, rich sound with plenty of depth.
Cons: Base is just a little on the thin side; but still very good for such a small unit. Listen to the Play 5 to compare.
I had trouble following the instructions and had to call for help to set my computer. It was simple, but if the instructions were more precise anyone could get music without calling for help. Also, only stations that are in tunein can be put into your computer to play. The speaker sound just fine, but the volume is controlled by your computer setting. Would be nice to have a volume control on the speaker to keep from returning to the computer to adjust the sound. My computer and speaker are in different zones. Otherwise, good listening.
I recently entered the Sonos Universe with a mix of Connect and Connect:Amps hardwired to in-ceiling speakers as well as outdoor rock speakers. I purchased two Play3s to add zones to both of my children's rooms. The sound and look amazing. Got a black for our baby and the white for the girl's room. My wife and I use them EVERY night to put soothing lullabies as part of the "time-to-go-to-bed" struggle. I have a subscription to Pandora "One" as well as MOG. MOG has a awesome selection of children bed-time lullabies. I can say that these new Sonos components have complimented my already existing whole-house music system. These two components are the only wireless components we have at the time since all the other ones are hardwired via CAT5 cable to the router. So far not a single hiccup in the quality and transmission.
Pros: form factor, sound quality, bass response, ease of connecting to Sonos net.
Excellent sound for its size. I own the Play 5 and added the Play 3 to extend sound to other rooms. Sonos has produced a quality product that has good value. The Play 3 sound quality exceeds my expectations for the streaming style music that I listen to.
Pros: Good sound - Easy set up - Player software is easy to use
Cons: It would be nice to have a portable (battery operated) option or version available to use outdoors or while away from a 120v outlet.
This product gave me the capability to have understandable radio in my bathroom and my kitchen. I can move the receiver if I want from one room to another. I do plan on purchasing another receiver so I can have sound in all the main rooms of my house. I have a stereo system with speakers in my bedroom and living room, and now I can here radio all over the house.
Pros: Wireless sound whereever you want it, Easy to set up.
Cons: There is a slight delay between the SONOS speakers and the wired stereo radio. Mostly OK since you only can be in one room at a time.
I was so impressed with the Sonos sound system that I installed in my TV room (base, sound bar and two Sonos Play:3 speakers) that I purchased two more Sonos Play:3 for my kitchen. The set up easily and instantly joined my other speakers. The only confusing part was making them stereo. Their sound is phenomenal. I will be adding more throughout the house. I live in a 100 year old house and the ability to have flawless wireless throughout the house that can be managed separately from my iPhone is magical!
Pros: excellent sound, easy set up and they have a small footprint.
Cons: Setting up the stereo was not completely intuitive. Lack of detailed instruction manual.
Big fan of the Sonos system. Setup is almost idiot proof, sound is excellent. Music can be played throughout the house and have different sounds playing in different rooms. Also, Sound Bar and Sub Woofer are excellent as well as the Play 5's. Great system, only drawback is the cost.
Pros: Simplicity, Convenience, Portability
This is the best wireless system that I have tried. The sound is great and the interface is outstanding,.
Pros: easy setup and beautiful design, quality product and software.
Cons: not portable
I have now installed a Sonos system in three separate locations. They are great. We enjoy the sound and ease of use.
Pros: easy setup and beautiful design, quality product and software.
Cons: No water proof unit for outdoors use. Please get to work. I am first on the list.
great little speaker and software to go along with it for the desktop, iphone and iPad. this is my second unit and i plan on growing to even more speakers throughout the house.
Pros: great sound
Cons: wish is had a battery so it was more portable
I decided to add a portable Sonos Play 3 to our system. We already have several other units. The sound from this little unit is outstanding. It is better in smaller rooms, and in a corner for better bass. Even when out in the open in our huge family room it still sounds very good. The size is perfect for placement on a bathroom counter, or in the laundry room, etc.
Pros: Great sound, great size. I like the darker color of the case, blends in better.
Cons: None. Another great Sonos product.
I was unfamiliar with sonos but researched outdoor speakers. Even though this is not an 'outdoor' speaker, I can easily transport the Play3 outside when I want. I figured it was a better option anyway given the amount of time I actually spend on the patio and the risk of a good speaker being damaged by Oklahoma hail/tornado weather if it was mounted outside. Instead, I get to enjoy the music in the house too. I went to some other retailers and played the demo. After reading the reviews, I expected the sound to be better but reminded myself I was in a huge building. When I got it home, it was awesome. I didn't read any of the directions and have yet to install the software on my computer although I will as there may be software updates. It plays pandora from my phone without having the computer on. I had the app downloaded so when I plugged it in, I followed the easy steps on my phone to set it up. Crutchfield was great about answering my questions. My house is just over 1350 square feet and I can easily hear the play3 throughout the house. I thought I would use it in the kitchen only and later add one for the living room. I don't see that necessary. However, the playbar is on my next list.
Pros: Ability to play music from multiple sources. Sounds good. Fills the area well. Fairly easy to transport within wifi signal. When I sell my house, my speakers will go with me. Not limited to iphone. Seems to be longer lasting with the future than some options.
Cons: A little pricey for a speaker, esp. when you have to have the bridge and start thinking of adding other components.
I have three....love them!!!!
Pros: Small light weight loud
Outstanding ... easy setup, works seamlessly unlike so many other lesser quality products.
Pros: Easy setup, quality, sound
Cons: Price, requires a/c
I have a Sonos addiction. I love the stuff. Sonos makes you realize why you dug listening to music all those years. The Play three let's you get down in tight corners. I have a small bathroom but wanted to listen to something other than my electric toothbrush or my shrieks of terror when I looked in the mirror. The Play 3 sounds really good even when backed into a corner. It doesn't get as loud as I had hoped but it does great when you look at how small it is. They probably sound great as a stero pair. There is even wall mount attachment things if you are into that kind of thing. Anyway, it is a welcome addition to my Sonos system.
Pros: Fits about anywhere. It does a lot of things well for its size.
Cons: Not super loud but good for small spaces
I bought several Sonos components from Crutchfield. The Sonos system is super easy to set up (plug a Bridge or another component into a home network, open a controller app on a phone, tablet, or PC) and the sound quality is very good! I would highly recommend for others.
Pros: Simplicity, multi-zone audio, audio quality
We ordered this Sonos 3 for the upstairs bathroom after using our Sonos 5 in our livingroom/kitchen. Since we already had the 5 up and going (via the Sonos Bridge), the 3 was set up in only a minute or two. The system found it immediately after making the unit discoverable and after that it was just . . . playing music! Very easily paired with/separated from the Sonos 5 - all from our iPhones (or our computers)! What wonderful, simple technology!!! This was a scratch and dent purchase, so we saved a couple of bucks, but, where is the damage??? The unit is perfect!!! The box it came in had a small tear, but that was it. I have never written a review for a product EVER, but I am so impressed I just had to say something. We love music and we favor simplicity. The sonos systems deliver both beautifully. We would definitely recommend Sonos to our friends. Even our kids are impressed.
Pros: Great sound, simple set up, very flexible - can listen to different sources of music (Internet radio, music from my computers and server) on each of the units using the same controller (iPhones/computers). The volume levels can be adjusted together or separately. The Sonos app for our iPhones didn't get a stellar rating, but it seems to work well for us.
Cons: Probably a little pricey. On the other hand there is value in paying a bit more for quality.
Love the speaker!
This is a great product - very easy to use and much higher quality sound than I expected. We bought it to add music to our kitchen without having to run wires from the stereo, and its been great. All of the digital music options have worked great, and the controller apps for android, iphone, and ipad are very handy (and easy to use). I will likely purchase more Sonos products in the future...
Pros: Ease of use, sound quality
Cons: No battery (not a huge deal, but it would be nice if you could use this without a plug nearby, at least for a little while). This is the only thing that prevented me from giving it 5 stars (
You can't beat the price. The design is awesome and the price is even better. I'm not a hardcore music listener so this is perfect for me. I usually entertain people over dinner. My place is over 2200 sq feet and I have a huge living room but this little guy can cover my living room with no problem. Going to buy couple more for my other rooms. Loving it!
Pros: easy setup, price, design
Cons: I wish the logo wasn't so prominent!
The PLAY:3 works great as a networked device. I'm surprised it doesn't have a simple audio mini-jack port though, since this would seem to enable it for non-networked use also (just a speaker connected directly to a device). The sound is great though and the multi-room functionality with pairing is really nice.
Pros: For its stated purpose it is simply great.
Cons: Seems to me that adding the stereo port for direct connections would be simple and would greatly increase the functionality.
Sonos makes great products I have been using the Sonos Play 5 in larger areas Very pleased with the performance of the Play 3 for the kitchen where I want to take up less space but still have a full range of sound. Cannot beat Cructchfield's service, I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years
Pros: Full rich range in a compact size
I already had the Sonos system in my home and purchased this as a Christmas present for my wife for the kitchen. I think it sounds great and she loves it. Our previous under cabinet radio in the kitchen played with too much static (probably due to the under cabinet lighting I recently installed) and stations would drift in and out. Now she has access to crystal clear sound from a plethora of internet radio stations as well as our entire CD library, which I have ripped to the computer. I downloaded the Sonos app so she can select what she wants (or control the volume & EQ) right from her- Kindle Fire. Plus she can unplug it and take it with her to any room in the house. There is basically no installation. Just plug it in. You also need to register the unit with Sonos Bridge the first time you use it.
Pros: Easy setup. Very portable-can plug in anywhere in the house.
Cons: Kind of expensive. I think a power switch would be nice addition to the unit.
First off, this is a great product. I bought this as a gift for my wife since we both love rich, full sound and technology. No other system touches this, including Bose which seems to have fallen behind the times. The sound is rich, even in our great room which covers about 350 sq ft. (I can imagine that the Play 5 might be better, but we're happy with this one.)
Pros: Great sound. Fast, easy set up. Blends in well with only the requirement of an AC outlet. The bridge works great, but nowhere does it tell me if I need another bridge if I add another Play 3 (which I will be doing).
Cons: No one seems to know how to market these systems. I've looked at these for about five years but could never decide what components I needed through a muddy marketing message. Crutchfield does a slightly better job but even refers to naming conventions that are out-dated (got one today that talked about Zone players, which is not Connect Amps). Also, the pricing of the connect amps are high. I can buy a seven channel home theatre receiver for the same price as an amp! Better marketing=more sales
By far the most excellent product purchased. Sonos works seamlessly with iPhone and iPad. I purchased Sonos five Sonos three and the bridge altogether, and couldn't be happier!
Pros: Easy to move speakers to different rooms.
The Sonos audio system is as perfect as it gets. It's extremely easy and convenient to setup and operate. The audio is exceptional, even if you start out with. Only one component. As you add components, things just get better from there. Sonos is the "Apple" of audio. It just works! Operate it with your smartphone. Run different music in different zones. BOTTOM LINE. Buy it. It's worth every penny.
Pros: Great audio. Endless music through iTunes, Pandora, Rhapsody, Spotify, etc., Ridiculously easy to set up.
I got two of these. It took all of 30 minutes to install and start listening to music. The set up is VERY user friendly. The sound is great.
Pros: Easy Set up, great sound
Cons: wireless has its limits!!
The Sonos 3 has lived up to the hype in every aspect - from ease of setup to sound quality! Love being able to listen to satellite radio with it. Will be purchasing more in the near future!
Pros: Easy set up; awesome sound quality; easy to control with Ipod touch/Samsung tablet/Samsung smart phone.
I have it for 2 weeks, love it. Absolutely love it. I am considering buying one more except that it is not cheap.
Pros: Set up is very easy. Up and running in 5 minutes. We later bought a network attached storage as the music server. Works well. Now we need to play around with the Sonos software to make full use of the music searching mechanism. The sound is good, although when blasted high it cracks a bit but that happen to any speaker.
Cons: I am always scared when I have to pull the power supply when the machine is still on stand-by. I wish there is a on/off button.
Great sound. I used two for the living room to give a fuller effect (not true stereo, but still very nice). Couldn't possibly be easier to set up. I did so using my iPhone. Took a couple of minutes tops to set up three speakers. I will be getting more for other parts of the house.
Just added Sonos to our second house -even better than the first. We love the system. Crutchfield gives superb service and support.
Pros: Versatility, sound quality, cost
Great speakers. I have two, going to buy more. Waiting for an outdoor version. Hopefully soon.
Pros: Easy to install Great sound. Crutchfield people are a great help
Cons: None found yet. Would like an outdoor/weatherproof version as well.
I already have 2 zp90's in my house and was looking for an easy way to expand Sonos to other rooms of my house. The play 3 fit my requirements so I picked one up. First of all it is a breeze to set up. Second the sound is incredible from such a small device. I love being able to bring my music to any room/outdoors so easily.
Pros: Ease of setup, sound, versatility/portability
Great product. Booming sound in a little box.
Pros: Versatility. Easy to move to where ever you are. Completes the whole day-in-the-garage experience.
Cons: None so far.
This was recommended to us by our son and was he right! It is a wonderful system. Have an intercom system with a CD player that has quit playing. Replaced with the Sonos instead of repairing the intercom. Great choice!! We love it!!
Pros: Can move from room to room if needed and even take outside....
The Play:3 sounds better than I expected. Perfect for my needs. I am sure the 5's must be awsome but, for placement issues, I bought three Play:3's. The whole Sonos system is well thought out and high quality. The control software puts our own library plus the whole music world together perfectly.
Pros: Easy to place, excellent sound.
Nice compact design. Quality Sound. Easy to use and move from room to room. Great out on the patio.
Pros: Crutchfield service and tech support.
Cons: Sonos...you guys really need to work on the software to allow the sonos system to download software upgrades from a WIFI network. Also to allow access to the WEB options via WIFI. Seriously, I could fake a backwards hook-up to the web on my old desktop but now with a quality laptop and WIFI only i cannot utilize many SONOS features and must pack it all up to go hook-up to someone's wired ethernet.
Recently renovated our home an rather than going with a hard-wired speaker system, at the recommedation of our contractor we opted to go with the Sonos system. GREAT CALL! We have two Sonos Play 3s and a Bridge. We now have the capacity to pipe hi-fidelity sound into any room in the house. The Sonos system was a fraction of the cost of hard wiring speakers and I can controll the entire system from my iphone! My one peeve is with my itunes music library. Evidently, in order to play my itunes recorded songs on the sonos system, I have to re-save them in a different format - for a fee payable to Apple. On the bright side, I have now discovered Pandora which comes pre-loaded on the Sonos app for my iphone. I am thoroughly satisfied with my Sonos system. Will probably pick up a Sonos Play5 and another Play3 in not too distant future.
Pros: Great sound. Can move speakers anywhere within range of your wireless router. Excellent Crutchfield shipping and tech support.
Cons: itunes music requires conversion to play through Sonos system.
Great sound easy to set up excellent technical support
Pros: Easy of use and flexibility
Cons: Needs improvement on electric cable and contacts
This speakers sounds incredible and the app is fantastic. We got this for our kitchen but actually put it in our family room and it sounds better than our very old Bose cube speakers. Will likely get the 5 speaker soon too. The amount of music and stations to pick from utilizing the app is both amazing and overwhelming. The only cons are that it is a bit pricey and we had a difficult time getting the speaker and bridge to be recognized doing the whole push the series of buttons start up routine.wasn't as simple as they made it look. But once it was up and running, we now love it.
Pros: Great sound. Tons of music choices. Versatile and mobile speaker.
Cons: Cost. A little more challenging to set up than expected.
Easy to sit up, app works great, sound is great, besides the cost everything is awesome. We recommend to anyone.
Pros: Easy of use and flexibility
Cons: maybe cost
Just what I've been looking for for a long time. Really, really cool...
Pros: East set-up and use,
Cons: Pricey. Needs volume discounts.
I can't believe the sound from this - the smaller of the two Sonos speakers. I've been researching how to add a music system to my recently renovated home and stumbled on the Sonos system. After listening to a demo at Target, I thought I'd start off small and order the Play:3 - which actually sounded as good as the Play:5 in the demo. Setup was breeze and now I'm planning to consolidate 14 years of digital music onto a server to access through the system.
Pros: Super simple setup; expandable as my needs grow; Apple-friendly software
Cons: Price. Would love something at a little lower price point.
After trying and returing several different pieces of computer-based music equipment, I finally got the Sonos player 3. I find it to have very good sound quality and to be very easy to use, compared to other pieces of computer-based music gear I have tried. I highly recommend it. I thank Ziggy and all the Crutchfield team for their help.
Great item. My wish list has 2 items: more robust treble/bass tweaks (besides the ones in the software); and wish the speakers had an external input jack. Otherwise, more than pleased!
Fantastic product, simple set up, really compliments the play 5 we already have.
Pros: Simple set up, and you can move it anywhere you want it.
Great unit. Was up and running in a matter of minutes. The sound is good for such a small device and it is versatile enough to use anywhere in the house. I plan on adding at least two more units.
Pros: Ease of use. Sound quality.
Cons: If you don't have a controller (iphone etc) the Sonos controller makes the price prohibitive.
This was my first introduction to the Sonos system, and I must say that I am a big fan. The convenience and variety of music available, especially when paired with a Spotify membership, is simply amazing. Setup was easy -- less than 5 minutes from opening the box to listening to my MP3 collection and iheartradio. The sound from the Sonos Play:3 is good. I am using it in my kitchen, and it provides plenty of sound and plenty of bass for my needs in the kitchen. It also sounds good in my larger family room, as long as you intend for it to be ambient music at a moderate volume. I rated it a "4" because I think it really needs an "audio in" port like the Play:5. Other than this omission, I think it is a wonderful product.
We love this. It is so easy to use; seriously it's great. We live in an old house, and it's hard to put speakers where you want with these crazy plaster walls - but Sonos makes it easy, and the sound on the 3 speaker is plenty big for us. Love the iPhone app.
Pros: nice sound, easy to move, easy to set up, easy to use, iPhone app
Cons: wish it was a little easier to play podcasts from my itunes
I love this little player--its good qualities far outweigh its cons. However, consider well what you want to use it for before you purchase (Sonos and Crutchfield customer service are both excellent). The volume and sound quality are good enough to enjoy the full range of sound when playing music and to surmount the noise of housework, paper shuffling, etc. Setup was easy (but be sure you insert the sonos end of the A/C fully--until the "shoulder" of the cord is flush or below the casing or you will have intermittent function!). Network range is not quite as good as with my computers but still excellent.
Pros: Great sound, portable. Great for radio (especially those of us who have no reception over the air). Easily synced to most iTunes content. Easy setup.
Cons: Biggest cons: Terribly expensive controller if you don't have smart phone, etc.; no input port. Other: no easy way to stream podcasts, etc., directly from browser or browser download, no way I've found to stream content stored on iPhone, etc., to Play3 without a networked, awake computer (If I've missed something here, I'd love some advice). Audiobooks must 1st be imported into iTunes (9.0.2, Mac OS Tiger 10.4.11)--syncing & playback of this content via Sonos app is not intuitive.
SONOS is one outstanding system. I continue to be impressed by how easy it is to use and how good it sounds. It has revolutionized the way we listen to music in my house.
I have been shopping around for quite a while. I bought a foreclosed home in which they took all components of a wired multi room system including the speakers. I found this system and it gives you such a wide range of options and flexibility for listening. I have this speaker in my kitchen, a bridge, a zone player attached to my home theater and putting the larger speakers elsewhere. This small one sits on my kitchen counter and I have the zone player hooked into the TV so I can hear my TV from my kitchen without blasting the folks in the family room. Love the system, so easy to set up! (also, cheaper than a hard wired multi room system which gives you less options)
Pros: Easy to set up. Great flexibilty, great apps for ipods/iphones.
Cons: Wish it was cheaper but its still less expensive than a home wired system.
I was commenting to my wife last evening that the Sonos was the best thing we have ordered that has enhanced our home's ambiance probably ever. Love it! We listen to a French children's radio show, a Canadian classical station, and, of course, Pandora. Truely glad we made the purchase and Crutchfield's was so speedy and completely professional.
Pros: the whole package
First I connected the Sonos Connect to my Bose bookshelf speakers in my library/office. I love it. Even better, my wife (who avoids technology)loves it. She would rather play that then our $2000 surround sound system in the Family Room. When her birthday came she half heartedly suggested a Sonos:5 for the deck. With some trepidation I bought the Sonos:3 for the kitchen (there is no space in the kitchen for the :5. I was pleasantly surprised. She loves it and plays them both all the time. Wish there were a Sonos that could replace that boat anchor of a surround sound system. I can buy the Sonos:Connect. But I would still have to fiddle with the Surround Sound System manually. I put a 2 terabyte networked hard drive on the network and loaded every CD I ever bought and more on it. Now we are buying and storing our online purchases there. Now I am listening to CDs I never would have pulled out. I listen to my favorite radio stations. I have NEW favorite radio stations I never new existed. I listen to Pandora. I control it all from every network connected device. Still would like a :5 for the deck this summer.
Pros: Sounds great. Loads of features. Easy to use from Computer, iPad and Droid. Sounds great. Fun. Easy set-up. Compact and unobtrusive.
Cons: I turn the volume UP from my Droid... she turns it down from her I pad... UP, down, UP, down. Needs a 'lock out the wife button'. Sound from the :3 is weak compared to the :Connect. Expensive.
Problem: I like to stream music but use either a laptop or iPad, neither offering good sound. Solution: The Sonos S3, and accompanying BR100. The S3 lets me really enjoy the music I stream. The audio quality is amazing for the size of the unit. (Voodoo could be involved.) I alternate between a paid Pandora account and three public radio stations. They all sound great. This has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of technology.
Pros: Great sound. Easy to control with iPad app. Easy setup.
Cons: A bit pricey, but I don't regret buying this for a minute, and will probably add another S3 unit.
Love the Sonos System. Own four S5s and two S3s. One caveat: CBS Radio 880 and 1010 Wins stations are no longer available on Sonos radio. They are our favorites morning radio stations. Would love to have them back.
Pros: Sleak, good sound, easy to install and operate. iPhone app is super handy.
I've been eyeing Sonos for quite a while, so I was excited to finally get one. I started with the Play3 via a Bridge. I placed it in my kitchen right next to my Bose iPod SoundDock. My wife and I had the same conclusion about the sound comparison and she didn't know which was which when she was listening. The Bose has a fuller sound and stronger bass, while the Sonos has a cleaner sound. We agreed we would be happy with either for our listening purposes. I tend to like bass, so I prefer the Bose sound. Still, you can't beat the convenience of having your entire music library at your fingertips. The jury is still out since I just got it, but it seems to be a great product.
Pros: Easy set-up and use. Access to entire iTunes library. Quality sound.
Cons: Less bass than I like.
I just ordered and received two Sonos 3 Players and the bridge. I ordered the Players first and after receiving them realized that in order to use them wirelessly I had to get the bridge. Maybe that's obvious to other people? I'm not really a techie person, at all. So, I ordered the bridge which arrived the next day. Now I see that you can bundle them all together and get the bridge for free. Bummed that I paid $49 for the bridge but whatever. I love the actual products. They sound great. It was fairly easy to set up. I'm using Time Capsule so it wasn't as easy as if you just had your modem and the Sonos components. But once the Time Capsule issue was handled the rest was super easy. I love using my ipad as the controller. It was extremely easy to set up and use. It's great to be able to play different music in different rooms. I am 100% happy about my purchase and would highly recommend to others.
Easy to set up and a great sound! Love this system.
I am really pleased with this purchase. I initially considered going with an AirPlay device, but soon realized that Sonos was the better choice for anyone looking to "wire" their entire house. The iPhone and Droid apps (we use both) and PC software are very user friendly, as was the setup (literally had to press two buttons). The sound quality is everything you would expect at the price point, and much better than one would expect for a wireless system. I definitely plan to buy 3 more units over the next year, one for the basement (perhaps a Play5), one for the kitchen, and a second for my office where I do my serious music listening.
Added the Sonos Play 3 to the Play 5 we already have. Both are great systems. The Play 3 does great in my small home office and the Play 5 adequately fills our family room. The music quality from both is fantastic. Great music from a small unit.
Simply put, an excellent product and well worth the money!!!
Wow! Wow! All I can say is I am so impressed by the SONOS system. Just installed the wireless bridge, ZP90, and the PLAY:3 this week, only took 15 minutes! The PLAY:3 sounds so impressive, especially considering it's size! I've been a music enthusiast for years, and I have quite a good ear for sound quality. I haven't even taken the volume to the max on this box yet, as it got extremely loud in my kitchen before reaching max volume. Bass response is just awesome, so impressive to get such good bass out of this system. I highly recommend this component, well worth the price. You can easily fill any room with just one of these, or if you really need the true stereo effect, buy two, and you can setup each PLAY:3 for Left and Right channels. I plan on buying a couple more, just to have one for the kitchen, master bedroom, and possibly the garage! It just couldn't be any easier, carry it wherever, and just plug it in. Fire up the controller up on your iphone, laptop, android, whatever, and in 10 secs. you have music! Well done SONOS, you have created a masterpiece. I am an EE, and can be quite picky when it comes to electronics design and cosmetics, but SONOS has done it right! SONOS components are packed in nice, smooth, simple, and cosmetically appeasing designs!
Sonos PLAY:3: The PLAY:3 is part of the Sonos wireless multiroom music eco-system consisting of a family of wireless network speakers, players, and amplifiers. Start with a single PLAY:3 speaker and add more over time, or add other Sonos products. Up to 32 Sonos devices can be connected in one system.
Two Ways to Connect Wirelessly: Sonos brings great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring project through SonosNet or WiFi.
Note: You cannot connect the Sonos system via both the SonosNet proprietary mesh network and WiFi; you will need to choose one. Sonos recommends using its proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh network over WiFi when applicable. The Sonos proprietary mesh network will provide a more secure wireless connection with fewer interruptions for optimum performance. WiFi is subject to greater interference from other WiFi and 2.4GHz devices on your network. WiFi connectivity is not compatible with 5GHz (you will have to use the Sonos wireless mesh network in this case).
Multi-Zone Compatibility: You can place a PLAY:5 in each zone where you want to listen to music. The Sonos wireless music system can accept up to 32 Sonos players. With multiple zones, you can play the same or different songs in different rooms. The PLAY:5 can be combined with other Sonos components; including the PLAY:1 or PLAY:5 amplified wireless music speakers, ZP120 amplified zone player, ZP90 zone player, and the PLAYBAR soundbar speaker (all sold separately).
Music Streaming Services: Sonos gives you access to unlimited music; such as your iTunes library, your favorite music services, and thousands of Internet radio stations, shows, and podcasts.
Sonos Controller App: Sonos allows you to control its audio setup, playback functions, and search features through the Sonos Controller app (from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store) for Apple iOS (6.0+) and Android (OS 2.3+) devices, or the Sonos Controller software for Windows PC (XP SP3 and higher) or Mac computer (OS X 10.6 and higher). You'll have access to thousands of pre-loaded internet radio stations, a variety of online music services, your iTunes music, and your network music library; all from one control app on your smartphone/tablet or laptop/computer. The app is divided into 5 screens.
Note: The Sonos device, Apple iOS/Android device, Windows PC, and/or Mac computer must be connected to the same home network.
Home Network Requirements: To access Internet music services, Internet radio, and any digital music stored on your computer or Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device, your home network must meet the following requirements:
Note: Make sure all of your Sonos components have the latest software update installed.
Automatic Updates: The Sonos PLAY:3 supports free automatic software updates so you will always have the newest features and music services to enjoy. Simply register the PLAY:3 and Sonos will automatically notify you when software updates are available through the Sonos Controller app. By simply pressing one button your system updates itself.
3 Driver/3 Amp Speaker System: The Sonos PLAY:3 uses three state-of the-art digital amplifiers individually coupled with three speakers to deliver great sound to any room. The wireless music system provides pure, clean sound that is perfect for bringing room filling music to a kitchen, bedroom, office, or just about any room in your home. A bass radiator produces powerful low notes while, two mid-range drivers and one tweeter fills out the sound.
DSP Circuitry: From the recording studio to your home, the music is reproduced as the artist intended. All filter settings, active equalization, and time-alignment are done in the digital domain through state-of-the-art DSP circuitry so there's absolutely no loss of audio quality or energy.
Tone Controls: Optimize sound performance using zone-specific bass, treble, balance, and loudness controls. Adjust volume by individual zone or by groups of zones.
Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS): The layout of a room, and where a speaker is placed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos App, uses the microphone in your Apple iOS device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the Sonos PLAY:3 speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it. The Sonos PLAY:3 speaker already sounds fantastic, but Trueplay brings you even closer to how music should sound. Completing Trueplay tuning for a room takes approximately 3 minutes from start to finish.
Note: You will need to retune the Sonos speaker using TruePlay, if you move the speaker within the same room or to another room, change the orientation of speaker (horizontal vs. vertical), or change the configuration of the speaker setup (going from a single speaker to a stereo pair for example).
Stereo Pairing: The Stereo Pair setting allows you to group two PLAY:3s in the same room to create a wider stereo experience. In this configuration, one unit serves as the left channel and the other serves as the right channel. When creating a stereo pair, it is best to place the two Sonos components 8' to 10' away from each other, angled inward to form a triangle with your favorite listening position.
Surround Speakers: The Sonos Play:3 Wireless Speakers can be used to create a wireless 5.1ch surround sound experience with the Sonos Playbar (616PLAYBAR, sold separately) and Sub (616SUB, sold separately). Now you don't have to run wires to a powered sub or rear speakers to enjoy true 5.1ch audio.
Versatile Placement: You can place the Sonos PLAY:3 wherever you find the sound most enjoyable. Its compact size makes it easy to place the PLAY:3 on your desk, the kitchen counter, on your nightstand, or carry it out to the patio with you.
Note: The Sonos PLAY:3 is not water-resistant; do not leave it outside during a rain storm or position it near water. Care should be taken if placing the Sonos PLAY:3 close to an older CRT television. If you notice any discoloration or distortion of your picture quality, simply move the PLAY:3 further from the television.
