Tamrac Explorer 2 (Model 5502)

Overview

Our take on the Tamrac Explorer 2 (Model 5502)

The Tamrac Explorer 2 lets you transport your camera safely. Inside, you'll find dual foam layers that conform to your SLR cam and lens, protecting them against shock and vibrations. You also get enough room to hold an extra lens or two and a flash. The top flap offers a quick release clip for easy access, as well as a zipper to better protect your gear from the elements.

The front zippered pocket features an ingenious storage system that uses red flags to help you keep track of which memory cards and batteries are fresh, and which are used up. Convenient carrying options include an adjustable, padded shoulder strap and a carrying handle.

I purchased this camera case for my Panasonic DMC-GZ150 digital camera. It fits the camera well and it has room for my Canon PowerShot SD500, a spare battery and charger for each camera at least 6 extra memory cards as well as some other things like a pens, note book and a compass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this camera case for my Panasonic DMC-GZ150 digital camera. It fits the camera well and it has room for my Canon PowerShot SD500, a spare battery and charger for each camera at least 6 extra memory cards as well as some other things like a pens, note book and a compass.

Pros: It is light weight for its size and is fairly dust resistant. I haven't tested it for water resistance.

Cons: Sometimes the cover latch is hard to open. It could have used 4 more velcro supports for the extra space on each end of the camera for accesries.

Features

Overview: The Tamrac Explorer 2 Photo/Digital Camera Bag (5502) carries and protects a digital SLR with a grip and zoom lens attached, an additional lens, and accessories. The main compartment features Tamrac's Dual Foam Technology for shock protection and a custom fit to equipment. The front pocket features Tamrac's patented Memory & Battery Management System, which uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available and which ones are used up. A Speed Pocket on the front flap secures and provides quick access to small accessories. A Total Coverage Top with quick-release buckle and zipper closures provides weather protection. Inside the lid is a smooth nylon pocket for holding lens cleaning paper and an open pocket in the back holds an instruction manual. An adjustable, BioCurve non-slip shoulder strap, and an EasyGrip carrying handle provide convenient carrying options for the Explorer 2 bag.

Construction: The Tamrac Explorer 2 is constructed of ballistic nylon and strong PolyTek with a vinyl coating. The bag's interior is lined with smooth nylon and features a foam-padded bottom. All the bag's seams are reinforced, and "box" or "box-x" stitched at stress points.

Capacity: The Tamrac Explorer 2 Photo/Digital Camera Bag is designed to carry a digital SLR camera with a lens attached (up to 6.0" long), and extra lens and a compact flash. The Tamrac 5502 is equipped with adjustable, foam-padded dividers to separate and protect lenses and other equipment.

Additional Storage: The Tamrac 5502 also features front, top, and interior zippered compartments, along with a rear pouch for storing additional accessories.

Dual-Foam Technology: Dual-Foam Technology combines closed-cell foam to provide maximum shock protection with open-cell foam for vibration dampening and a custom fit.

Total Coverage Top: Tamrac's Total Coverage Top offers triple protection against the elements by providing three levels of security: hook and loop closures for quick access, EasySqueeze quick-release buckles for security, and a storm-tight zipper closure for the ultimate weather protection.

Memory & Battery Management System: The Memory & Battery Management System provides quick access to memory cards, batteries and accessories. This unique system uses red flags to identify available memory cards and batteries from ones that are used up.
