Flip-Down Door Compartment: The Novia 8428 features a flip-down door compartment under the stand's TV shelf which can be used to house a center-channel, two audio/video components, or used to store your DVD/CD collection. By removing a wood strip, the shelf will provide two compartments that are 21" wide and 16" deep to accommodate A/V components. The shelf will hold up to 75 lbs. My previous television was a 42 in first generation HD TV (purchase 2000). It was a big box with no room for receivers and speakers. Because of this, we had wires and speakers showing behind the big box TV that was installed in a corner. When I purchased my 46 inch Panasonic plasma from Crutchfield and received a 10 percent discount on furniture, I started looking around for a entertainment center that would be all encompassing. This product is not an entertainment center as much is it is a beautiful piece of furniture solid in every way and extremely well thought out. I was able to put my left right and center Bose speakers in the upper compartment which has speaker material instead of a solid door. Because of the compartment slots, the wiring is all internal to this piece of furniture. After I finished wiring everything, there are two beautifully finish back pieces that slide into place and conceal everything. Because of the back pieces, light from a window close does not illuminate the component compartment. Needless to say the look is beautiful. And my Panasonic TV is perfectly matched for the glass top of this piece. My Wife is Happy! Beautiful piece of furniture with very little assembly required. The hardest part was removing all the foam, wood and cardboard packing. I was able to roll it into my living room with ease. I was able to handle everything by myself but it would be more practical it another person would have helped especially lifting it off the bottom support. My new 46" Samsung HDTV looks fantastic on this classy console. I was able to place my Bose subwoofer behind the TV with room to spare and you would never know it was there. I searched for weeks for a console that would meet all my needs and I keep coming back to this one and I finally ordered it. I have a large center speaker that I am able to hide entirely behind the mesh of the top shelf and the other components are just visible behind the smoked glass of the lower shelves. The cabinet is very attractive and looks like furniture that belongs in a home. My wife is not at all accepting of visible wires or technology and was fully prepared to hate this cabinet. I had it all set up when she arrived home and to my amazement (along with hers and everyone who knows her) she likes it. It was well packed and totally surrounded with plywood in the shipping box. No shipping damage was evident. Set up was straight forward. It helped to have a set of carpet sliders to move the unit to it's location. The unit is well designed and constructed. Fit and finish are very good and the hardware of high quality. A pleasant surprise for something built in China. Quiet door closures top and bottom. One door hinge needed slight adjustment. There is plenty of ventilation for a unit that is totally enclosed. The rear panels hide the cables and are easy to use. The glass top is very dressy. The color is a fair bit redder than shown on the website photo, but cherry can have a lot of variability and tends to lighten with age. Crutchfield should be applauded for their amazing service... the cabinet arrived on schedule and in perfect condition. No scratches or any damage! I was so relieved. It actually looks better than it does on the website. The color is darker than it appears on the website, but I think it is even better, richer... a mahogany tone. With its simple clean lines, it's perfect for housing all the components and very well ventilated. We are especially glad that it has wheels, so we can move it easily when needed. But that wasn't Crutchfield or BDI's problem. (The second delivery looked like two guys with forklifts decided to play catch with it.) It is very well packed and a beautiful piece of furniture. Everyone who has seen it with our new 50" plasma atop, remarks on the stand more than the TV picture! I thought I would need a team of engineers to assemble the TV cabinet! Not so! It was carefully delivered and put in living room. I had no problem unpackaging alone. I did need an extra person to help drag out of disassembled box. This is a HEAVY piece! Well constructed, beautiful! Only assembley was attaching knobs, placing glass and easy insert back panels. Could not believe that you can buy something in today's times and not need a team of workers and know how to read Chinese! My previous television was a 42 in first generation HD TV (purchase 2000). It was a big box with no room for receivers and speakers. Because of this, we had wires and speakers showing behind the big box TV that was installed in a corner. When I purchased my 46 inch Panasonic plasma from Crutchfield and received a 10 percent discount on furniture, I started looking around for a entertainment center that would be all encompassing. This product is not an entertainment center as much is it is a beautiful piece of furniture solid in every way and extremely well thought out. I was able to put my left right and center Bose speakers in the upper compartment which has speaker material instead of a solid door. Because of the compartment slots, the wiring is all internal to this piece of furniture. After I finished wiring everything, there are two beautifully finish back pieces that slide into place and conceal everything. Because of the back pieces, light from a window close does not illuminate the component compartment. Needless to say the look is beautiful. And my Panasonic TV is perfectly matched for the glass top of this piece. My Wife is Happy! Beautiful piece of furniture with very little assembly required. The hardest part was removing all the foam, wood and cardboard packing. I was able to roll it into my living room with ease. I was able to handle everything by myself but it would be more practical it another person would have helped especially lifting it off the bottom support. My new 46" Samsung HDTV looks fantastic on this classy console. I was able to place my Bose subwoofer behind the TV with room to spare and you would never know it was there. I searched for weeks for a console that would meet all my needs and I keep coming back to this one and I finally ordered it. I was looking for just the right media cabinet for several years before this purchase and could not be happier now. The cable management is simply outstanding, the wheels allow easy access the the rear of the cabinet and the removable panels there are a joy. I have a large center speaker that I am able to hide entirely behind the mesh of the top shelf and the other components are just visible behind the smoked glass of the lower shelves. The cabinet is very attractive and looks like furniture that belongs in a home. My wife is not at all accepting of visible wires or technology and was fully prepared to hate this cabinet. I had it all set up when she arrived home and to my amazement (along with hers and everyone who knows her) she likes it. It was well packed and totally surrounded with plywood in the shipping box. No shipping damage was evident. Set up was straight forward. It helped to have a set of carpet sliders to move the unit to it's location. The unit is well designed and constructed. Fit and finish are very good and the hardware of high quality. A pleasant surprise for something built in China. Quiet door closures top and bottom. One door hinge needed slight adjustment. There is plenty of ventilation for a unit that is totally enclosed. The rear panels hide the cables and are easy to use. The glass top is very dressy. The color is a fair bit redder than shown on the website photo, but cherry can have a lot of variability and tends to lighten with age. It was so helpful to watch the video of this product on the website and see exactly what was offered. We are very pleased with our choice of the Novia A/V cabinet, cocoa. Crutchfield should be applauded for their amazing service... the cabinet arrived on schedule and in perfect condition. No scratches or any damage! I was so relieved. It actually looks better than it does on the website. The color is darker than it appears on the website, but I think it is even better, richer... a mahogany tone. With its simple clean lines, it's perfect for housing all the components and very well ventilated. We are especially glad that it has wheels, so we can move it easily when needed.
