A single disc player at last!
Written By

I needed to replace a wonderful Sony ES player that was 15 years old (and no problems for 15 years). Sony no longer repairs this unit, and the disc tray was sticking. I finally found this Marantz at Crutchfield - there are only a few single CD players made now. Everyone is using changers. This seems to be a well-built, attractive unit that sounds very good. It takes longer than my Sony did to "read" the CD, but it has the text feature. With my Sony I could title each CD, but it was rather tedious. I do miss a keypad or rotating dial in order to quickly locate tracks, but this unit is an excellent replacement and Crutchfield's quick shipping and support system are rare indeed today. Highly recommended.

Very fine disk player

I have had this unit only for a couple of weeks but I have played very demanding CDs in terms of sound quality, particularly chamber music in which I was looking for realistic sound, i.e., close to my experiences in real concerts. I think this unit does very well, I have never heard a very expensive unit in a top quality sound system, but I would not expect things to get much better than what I have heard with the Marantz, a newly refurbished 400 amplifier and 603S3 speakers. The CD drawer does close by itself if you do not load a disk soon after opening, but that is a really minor annoyance. Also, with Crutchfield standing behind the product, it does not seem to matter much whether Marantz does not provide a good service experience. Very happy with the purchase.

Great Value

The Marantz CD5001 is an excellent value at $300. Qualitity of sound reproduction is far superior lesser-priced players, and while probably short of top-of-the-line machines, gave a significant boost to my mid-qualitity audio system.

Marantz CD5001 Review
Written By

If you don't need a multi-changer, SA-CD sound reproduction, or a CD-recorder, you can't do better than this CD-player. I have a high-wattage receiver/amplifier with numerous powerful speakers, and the sound from the CD5001 is spectacular all across the frequency spectrum. I also enjoy that this unit will display album plus song titles on the newer CDs so equipped. Moreover, it does play SA-CDs (but not with SA-CD sound quality) with no problems. I like everything about this quality unit.

High quality player

I depended on internet research to select this product because it is too hard to determine differences in stores. This player is not even fully run in yet and it feels like I now have a new stereo. My speakers and amp are very good quality, but below audiophile, and this player fits in that slot well. Highs are much more extended than my old player (JVC) and breadth/range is greatly improved. Very clear sound. With a good CD you can almost imagine the singer holding a microphone between the speakers. I could easily hear the difference in recording quality between two different CDs. Never liked MP3 and now I won't even play those on my main stereo - leave it for cars! So far, I love it, and as mentioned earlier, it seems like my whole stereo has been upgraded a level.
