    Awesome little unit!

Written By PatS, Maryland on Friday, July 10, 2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think for a lower wattage system, this is a phenomenal unit. The quality is outstanding and I absolutely love the sound coming out of the paired KEF Q100 speakers I attached to this guy. So many functions, but a very quality unit and performs all functions very well. This is what we're paying for.

Pros: Excellent sound quality, many functions and all perform flawlessly.

Cons: None really, but don't skimp on good quality speakers and speaker wire to get the best out of this system.

    Great, but ...

Written By tomK, Colorado on Wednesday, July 08, 2015

The concept and performance of this media receiver is game-changing and perfect for me - but a recent firmware update killed the iPhone iOS app support. We replaced a Marantz PM6004 for the enhanced hybrid functionality and better lifestyle physical form of the newer unit. Power-wise I have my stand mounted B+W Series 1se's rolled off (in the Marantz interface) at 80hz and bottom end is handled by a Marantz driven subwoofer. 24 hours a day we listen to computer audio from a Dragonfly 1.2, legacy audio CDs and several of our favorite internet radio stations. Everything sounds great, as good as the acclaimed Marantz amp it replaced. The internet radio is especially surprising - all the stations we listen to have great, smooth fidelity. Also surprising is the wonderful iOS remote control app, which is also the only reason I gave the unit 4 starts. When it works, the app is great - you can control volume anywhere your wi fi reaches and use the app find internet stations and manage the radio presents. But a recent firmware update killed the app. It's dead, so managing (and finding) new internet streams isn't as intuitive. Hoping this is a temporary bug.

Pros: Great functionality, great sound, great configuration options

Cons: Nothing, when the iOS app works again (it's dead currently)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Enjoying this unit very much. It connected easily and wirelessly to my router . I have it connected to an older set of Boston Acoustics and it sounds wonderful. Very satisfied.

    Pros: Nice looking. Great sound.

Cons: Price, but the wireless feature makes it worth it in my situation.

    Excellent Versatile Receiver

Written By KCouch, Connecticut on Tuesday, April 21, 2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The big selling feature of this amp is versatility and reasonable power in a small footprint. It is 2.1 stereo. For about a 12"x12" footprint by 4" high, it does a lot. Has a built in CD, FM and AM tuner. Has Wi-Fi features that let you tune in radio stations via your home wi-fi. Also, for any Apple device (IPhone, IPad, Mac) it will stream your ITunes library via Airplay which is an internal software feature on Apple products. Also compatible with Spotify, Pandora, Sirius. Great product for people caught between worlds of owning CDs and working towards having electronically stored music. Has A and B amps that can be used with Bi-wire speakers or two sets of speakers. Has an out for sub-woofer. Will take an optical cable from a DVD player and has two sets of analog RCA inputs along with USB hookups. Has a direct ethernet cable input.

Pros: Great versatility and functionality. Good unit for say a 20'x20' den. Can search online radio by locality and genre. Am using this with good quality bookshelf speakers. Would help bottom to add a sub. Reasonably easy setup. Priced about right for what you get. With a couple of small footprint, high quality small speakers, can fit unobtrusively into a den and project very good quality sound.

Cons: Very little, almost non-existent documentation. Be nice to have more punch -- say 40 watts per channel on A/B instead of 30. At this price, the unit is about what I expected. I have a high end stereo with separates and a couple hundred watts of power and high end speakers and, of course, the sound is superior. But that kind of setup is much more expensive and space consuming. I would say this unit fits in the middle of moderate price, good performance units.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There is a lot of functionality built into the unit, but it does not seem to do very many of these things well. You get a lot in one device, but it is a lot of mediocrity. It could work if your space is limited and you want a device simply to provide music in the background. Mobil app is pretty bare bones. Wireless connectivity was poor. I returned the unit.

Pros: size, one box does it all approach. External analog output was useful.

Cons: amplifier was lifeless even with fairly efficient 92 db speakers (I ended using an external amp). Airplay and wifi connectivity would frequently drop out. To get it back I would have to go thru the quick setup again, which got old fast. My apple TV box and Samsung TV work fine in my wireless environment. Didn't like the plastic enclosure. Would read music off a USB flash drive, but it would not read an external USB hard drive regardless of whether it was powered or unpowered.

    Great until firmware update

Written By John, California on Saturday, February 07, 2015

Was happy with this unit until an auto firmware update. Now the IOS app and Airplay will no longer connect, and it randomly switches internet stations. No instructions on how to perform a factory reset to be found. About to put in a box and send it back to Crutchfield.

Pros: Worked great for one month.

    Cons: Firmware update broke everything.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great combination of digital and analog features, it's a true all-on-one, easy to use and with a very small footprint, easy to fit anywhere. From the reviews online I thought the sound quality was acceptable to drive a pair of Tannoy TD8 loudspeakers, but that was big disappointment. The amplifier is truly anemic for these kind of size/ quality speakers. One would suspect that from the power cable and the reported consumption (I doubt it will throw out the output power which is claimed). Bass is truly disappointing, treble is not impressive, and while mid range is there, but the definition is not at the level of I was expecting judging from reviews in the Internet. Guess written by people with different expectations. I have no way of trying it with smaller / lower quality speakers, maybe in other combinations it may deliver. I will probably return it, and this is great reason to buy Crutchfield.

Pros: Self-sufficient, all-in-one, small footprint, very easy to use

Cons: Sound quality is disappointing for the price and the alleged tech specs

They got everything right. Very happy with this CD Receiver. It works well with my Denon Turntable and I like to have the AM/FM option for a change of pace once and a while. High quality construction and compact.

Pros: Quality at reasonable price point.

Cons: Digital increments could be smaller as it relates to volume and bal., treble, and Bass. But it's a digital world that this product exists in.

    Big Sound, Small Footprint

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replacing a 10+ year old compact stereo system in my brother-in-law's a custom made cabinet. The actual cabinet cost much more than any stereo system I could find. Since neither he nor his wife are audio fanatics I had to get a small unit, with big sound, and an easy to use UI. Their speakers are in the wall and in two separate rooms. Being able to split sound between two rooms with in wall speakers is a homerun for them. Easy to set up, dead simple for them to use and the sound is concert hall quality. They even decided to add an iPod and ditch the cassette player.

Pros: Small footprint Easy install Great UI for novice users

    Cons: None

Small but mighty! Great product and the Marantz quality lives on! Musical sound is just what the large opened floor plan of our home needed. The balanced sound throughout the space is what I was hoping for when I purchased this receiver!

Pros: The combination of the Bose speakers and the infinity sub woofer with the Marantz produces a great musical sound in all volume ranges. Older recordings without the newer recording advances sound wonderful and newly recorded music is exceptional! I highly recommend the Marantz M-CR610.

    Cons: NA

    I like it just fine

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted clear uncolored two channel music at my desk, independent of my computer. This provides that with typical Marantz quality. I do not believe that the more compact design has been a reason for Marantz to compromise, and it's proven by what I hear now each day. This is an excellent though smaller fine Marantz product.

I had no trouble making the wifi connection, and entry to my Pandora account was seamless.

I'm using a pair of modified Pioneer SB-22 bookshelf speakers for my near field need and the sound is flawless.

Although I've yet to tune a radio station I have found the installed CD drive to work fine, without any quirks. A nice quiet device in keeping with my expectations considering the maker.

So overall I'm very happy with this product. It's exactly what I had hoped it would be.

Pros: Fine operation and sound. Excellent wifi connectivity. Simple to set up and to use. Remote operation is easy when needed. It's a handsome little component too.

    Cons: none whatsoever, IMO.

    An excellent CD/Internet/Amplifier

Written By Ron, New Hope, Pennsylvania on Sunday, January 04, 2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Our CD player stopped working, and the rest of our components were about 30 years old. I talked to the representative here, Chance, and he pointed me toward the Marantz M-CR610. In addition to CD / Tuner / Amplifier, which I wanted, this has internet connectivity. We first set up internet radio stations to replace the local FM stations we listen to. We are in a marginal reception area, so getting an HD noise-free reception was just stunning. (I have no reason now to use the FM / AM tuner built into this unit - and that's a great thing.)

Next I set up some stations on Pandora, which I never had used before. Again, this is a great feature that I was not originally looking for. I also set up the Marantz Remote App on my wife's iPad and on my Kindle Fire. While there is a full-function remote, using the app to control the unit is the best approach. The app lets you see the full names of Internet radio stations or Pandora stations before you choose them, which is more convenient than trying to read the front-panel display across the room.

The sound is terrific. I have 40 year old floorstanding speakers, which sound completely rejuvenated with this new unit.

We are very happy with this significant upgrade to our system.

Pros: Can play CDs, Internet radio, streaming audio from Pandora, Spotify, etc. Can drive the unit from iPad or iTunes on a laptop. Sound production is excellent, driving full-range IMF Studio speakers without difficulty.

Cons: It took me a little while to figure how to configure the remote control App. Some better documentation for that is recommended. (The documentation for the unit and the remote control is very comprehensive.)

I haven't shut it off since I hooked it up! The sound is clean. It's smooth from very low volume all the way to blast the room. I hooked it up to my internet but haven't figured out how to get my radio stations yet. We get terrible reception so I haven't even tried the tuner.

Pros: Enough power to drive my 2 Klipsch reference 52 speakers and love them in bi-amp mode.

    Everything I hoped for!

It is easy to use at least for me,good reception, works great in my living room as background music point. mainly we use it as Internet radio ( tons of radio stations and we found some good italian station too) streaming music from our i phones via AirPlay

Pros: Easy to use wirelessly, easy to setup, AirPlay technology and it is CD player as well. Overall I'm very pleased with this item

Cons: A bit pricey and I couldn't find it in silver color.

    Quality Receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a shelf stereo system just for music and college ball games. I hadn't bought a stereo for 40 years as everything I got was for AV. All of the bookshelf systems I researched seemed to fall short in the reviews or capabilities. I liked the Marantz name, reviews, and the wifi with internet radio so I could listen to AM so I ordered this receiver along with Infinity P163 speakers. I am very pleased. The sound is crisp and clear with clean highs and lows and the volume easily fills my 24 x32 garage. I did add a subwoofer, but keep it at low levels just to enhance the base. The internet radio is really useful. I am still exploring the channels, but the ones I have been using are much clearer than over the air. I listen to an XM receiver attached to the analog input and the sound is fine. It would be better using the internet version but I haven't added that to my subscription. Overall I am very satisfied. I did buy the open box discounted version, but I could see no damages or reduced quality.

Pros: Very good sound and input selections.

Cons: The price is a little steep, but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for".

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Marantz CR-610 is a very nice unit and compact which is what I needed for the small space I have. Setting up the unit initially and finding my network was flawless. I was able to download and install the android and iphone app for controlling the unit. The iphone app is a bit buggy and sometimes crashes. Overall the apps do a nice job allowing me to stream music from a variety of sources. I wish they had all the functionality build in available in the standard remote control that comes with the unit. There is no way to control the speaker balance or fade from the app. Really stupid, but maybe they will enhance the apps in the future. The sound is excellent. I have the unit hooked up to my new Polk speakers and I couldn't be happier.

Pros: Compact Excellent sound Super easy setup

Cons: Android and Iphone Apps are a bit limited in functionality.

I've been looking for a long time for compact unit like this for months. This has all the features I was looking for unlike other brands that offered only some. The set up was very easy and smooth. Once you learn the intuiative menus the operation is a breeze as well. The sound output is sufficient to make almost any speakers sound good. It's on the expensive side but worth every penny.

Pros: Easy set-up and operation, excellent sound, fully featured in a compact unit

    Cons: None

I was torn between the NAD D 7050 and this one. The lack of Bluetooth support had me on the fence but I'm the only one in the family with an AptX Bluetooth device so it didn't make much sense for me. Don't let the RMS output fool you, I have this hooked up to a pair of Definitive BP 7006's and it blows my walls down! The sound this amp puts out is quite crisp and AirPlay / Spotify stream flawlessly.

Pros: * Easy to setup * Quality sound & workmanship * Handy iPAD / Android app

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did quite a lot of research to try to find a home stereo receiver. I don't really watch TV and 5.1, 7.1 and whatever else is out there does nothing for me. I want to listen to a great stereo sound like I did when I was in high school in the '80's. I was leaning towards an integrated receiver but as I looked into more products and what would really suit my needs I came across these Marantz receivers that have built in WiFi. I subscribe to SiriusXM and generally like internet radio, but I wanted to play CD's as well and have options for future components. The M-CR610 seemed to be the answer so I took a chance and ordered it. (Not really a "chance" given the return policy!) The M-CR610 does everything that I expected it would. I to my Wi-Fi via the push button in about 5 minutes. I setup my username and password for Sirius XM in about 10 minutes. The CD tray has a solid, well-built feel and opens and closes silently. The sound is absolutely crystal clear and the silence of no source is, well, perfect silence. The 55RMS is plenty to produce a wonderfully crisp, clean sound with plenty of low end that is punchy and not at all muddy from the Bose 301 Series V bookshelf speakers that I decided to run with it. I am very pleased with my purchase and expect to enjoy many years with my setup.

Pros: Solid, well-built feel. Small size. Easy to setup various features via Wi-Fi. CD player is a great convenience and sounds really good. Plenty of nice, clean RMS power for my Bose speakers. Very secure, solid speaker input terminals and ability to bi-amp, if you want. Sleek, good-looking unit.

Cons: I haven't found any yet.

    Marantz M-CR610 Stereo Receiver

Written By SteveM, Central New Hampshire on Tuesday, December 10, 2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In many ways this is the perfect receiver for use in a den or bedroom. It's compact, combining a receiver and CD player, and thus occupies a very small footprint. It's easy to set up. It plays CDs, am/fm, and with Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay. internet radio, Pandora, etc. I hooked it up to a couple of Klipsch KG4 speakers that I bought in the late 1980s and the sound is great. It's perfect for my audio needs. So why only three stars? Because I can not upgrade the firmware despite multiple telephone calls with Crutchfield and Marantz technical support. According to Marantz the unit is timing out before it can connect to their servers that are located in Japan. I tried all of their suggestions such as connecting the unit directly to the modem and attempting to update early in the morning or late at night. Nothing worked. So unless you are willing to live without software updates, or alternatively, have a high speed business internet connection or live in Asia, I do not recommend this unit. And I say that with regret since it's otherwise a great receiver.

Pros: ease of setup, CD/receiver combination, wireless internet

    Cons: inability to update software
