Any turntable with a built-in phono preamp will be compatible. Mine is paired with the Marantz TT42P.

The turntable has to have built-in phono preamp to connect to this unit. It would connect to the RCA input.

You need to buy a phono preamp and connect it to the analog input. However I found the M-CR610 to have very poor sound quality and would advise against buying it.

    Q
can I restrict playback to services I choose. For example, if I want it to play music from my iTunes library contained on a laptop. Then while continuing to play music from my library, I use the same laptop to browse around and I get to a page that includes video or audio. Will the receiver continue to play music from my library while the laptop itself plays the audio on the screen I browsed to? Hope I made myself clear. Thanks

I just did this with the M-CR610 playing music from ITunes on my Mac Air using Airplay with the Music Server selection on the receiver. Then I navigated to Youtube in Safari and played other music there through the laptop. Both played simultaneously. So, if you were using a desktop for a server and had it located in another part of the house, local music operations should be independent of what is going out through Airplay.

    Q
Can I use the MCR-610 with wireless speakers? I have the unit wired to two bookshelf speakers for in-door listening but would like to add one or more wireless speakers for listening outside on the deck. In particular I would like to listen to some of my CDs via the wireless speakers. Is this possible? If yes which wireless speakers could you recommend?

In addition to my previous response, keep in mind that some of the "air play" speakers may need power so, when looking, if you don't have power where the speaker is going to be, be sure that whatever you get includes some sort of battery.

As long as you purchase "apple air play" speakers you should be OK (given that you have ample wi-fi coverage where the speakers are and your player is also withing the same network. As far as a speaker recommendation, speakers are the one thing that you should not scrimp on. With today's technology, most Merantz components will recreate decent sound; however, it is harder for the speakers to reproduce the sound. Speaker technology has not made any great leaps in technology so there is where you should spend your money. Here is a speaker that received one 5-star review and from the looks of it, it should be amazing:http://www.crutchfield.com/p_714STADIUM/Klipsch-Stadium.html?o=d&showAll=N&search=airplay_speakers&#customer-reviews-tab This is the Klipsch StadiumT Wireless powered speaker system with Apple® AirPlay® and Bluetooth aptX® .

Do you have the option of listening to one set of speakers at a time- i.e. switch between A and B? or when 2 sets of speakers are connected you can only listen to all 4 speakers simultaneously (just moved into a new house with connections to study and living room)

Yes, you can either turn on the A or B speakers or both simultaneously. I have speakers that allow for bi-wiring and use the A and B turned on together to run the two power streams. When you turn on both sets of speakers it cuts the effective wattage in half relative to running only either the A and B. The A and B option is easy to select. There is a remote that comes with the amp that chooses the A/B combination (bottom right on the remote). The amp has a digital display and when you punch the remote it tells you what is turned on as it cycles through the options.

You can listen to one set (A), another set (B) or both at the same time (A+B). I hooked up my marantz to one set of indoor speakers and another set on the deck. This works very well.

On my Ipad3 I have the Amazon Music Player which can stream the music to my car stereo via Bluetooth Question: with this equipment would I be able to steam the music in my Amazon Music Player to the receiver? Would I need to add a Bluetooth dongle? Could the Amazon Music player stream through Airplay to the receiver? More generally whic receiver could do this and also pick up internet stations plus if I want Sirius XM ?

Not certain about bluetooth streaming. However, I play my music through my home network to the Marantz. I open up itunes and can actually turn on the stereo and adjust volume and equalization with my music all from my laptop. The equalizer I use is the one that is part of itunes.

This receiver does well with the internet radio stations- you can select them through the phone app as well as on the unit. I have an Android, so I have not used Airplay- so cannot comment. We listen to Sirius everyday on this unit. It drives our kitchen and outdoor speakers very nicely. There is no bluetooth- there is a USB input you could use. regards

OK, I tried to install the amazon prime player. Works great! 600 songs from albums I've bought over the years were right there & they play very well! Until my son grabbed the phone and started to play Lord of the Rings games... I have mine hooked up to my netgear wireless router with an ethernet cable. My Buffalo raid media server is also connected to the router. in airplay I select the Marantz, either from laptop, iPad or iPhone. There was no real set-up. plug and play. airplay just saw it and I was off and running. I use a pair of JBL Control One's. They sound good & really fill our space.

Marantz has a great app I use on my iphone 5. This allows me access my media networked hard drive where my music exists and a huge wealth of internet stations. Additionally when I play YouTube videos or other content I select this marantz as the source from the iPhone. Very happy with it. Very initiative. Easy setup. I love this device for music. I didn't want a tv surround system, so I went with this unit. I ought to try and access my amazon content & see if it works.

I am looking buy the Marantz M-CR610 to connect to a whole house audio system (SpeakerCraft BB1235). Is it a full line level "line out" like on other typical components (receivers/CD/DVD players) or lower voltage like IPODs/portable players (which results in lower volume without a line level pre-amplifier)? Some mini systems do not provide component level line out voltage, but rather portable media player level voltage.

@ A JI am sorry I don't think I am enough qualified to answer to your question. What I can tell you is the Marantz M-cr610 is compact, look nice.I use it for listening the music, radio, cd. The distribution and power is enough for the whole living room (400 sq/ft). The bad point is some time there is a delay to connect internet radio stations/also for tuner stations.Other wise for the price and my use, I am satisfied with it.I just want to add, the Crutchfield team is GREAT.I will purchased with them again.I hope the review will help you in your choice.ErwanPs; sorry for my english.

I am using the M-CR610 to power two full size, unpowered Klipsh (75 Watt speakers) in bi-amp mode and it works great. This is a system that is on the smaller side, but I would not consider it mini.

Not sure I understand your question so ask again if this doesnt help. It has line outs for 4 speakers. We dont need a preamp with this unit. We are running two klipsch bookshelf speakers with it and never run it anywhere near full volume.

I don't know specifics regarding the voltage, but can tell you that you will need a pre-amplifier, as the line out does not run through the Marantz pre-amp...IE no volume control. I use the Marantz in a small room with a pair of tube amps and bookshelf speakers. I needed to insert a pre-amp/volume control between the Marantz line out and the amps. I use a Pro-Ject Prebox S, which works very nicely.

I set up my new M-CR610 using one wifi network with limitations and would like to switch to another wifi network. How can I do that? I did not find info in the user manual. The say to look at the quick start manual, but then, everything was automatic. Now even if I switch of the first wifi, it does not automatically look for a new one. Thanks!

I have owned the M-CR610 for a couple of months and I'm extremely pleased with the sound quality, build quality and ability to access music from almost every conceivable source. However I believe it supports only 4 speaker and one subwoofer connectors which would not meet your 5 speaker requirement. I would look for a proper 5.1 receiver to drive your speakers. It will give you more flexibility in how the music should be presented and not lock you into just stereo sounds from 5 speakers.

I bought this unit recently. It seems to be designed to drive 2 pairs of speakers. There is also a sub-woofer capacity. Overall it is a really nice unit, sounds great with a pair of jbl control 1. Setup was very easy.

I'm not a true audiophile but you should be able to drive 4 speakers no problem suspect your 5th speaker is not a sub so I'm not sure how to connect it for a stereo effect
    richard  Feb 09, 2014

Hi Harlan, Well, the unit has 2 speaker outputs on channel A and 2 speaker outputs on channel B. Each speaker gets 25 watts RMS if you are running 4 speakers, using A and B at the same time. As far as your 5th speaker, maybe there is a way to split one of the speaker wires to go to 2 speakers instead of one. I'm not certain how that would work though. Good luck!

For background music this unit might be somewhat of an overkill. It can drive two set of speakers, A and B, in two different rooms simultaneously. It can also drive a sub-woofer. In my opinion, for your purposes, you should look at 5.2 A/V network receiver
