Massive power for a wide range of audio applications

Connect this 2 x 140-watt beast to the preamp outputs of a receiver or a wireless music player such as the the Sonos ZP90. Add a pair of speakers that can handle the high power, and get ready for a breathtaking sonic thrill ride.

Use the MM7025 in your main listening room to drive your primary speakers. Expect to hear tighter, weightier bass, and wider dynamic swings that bring you closer to the sound of live music. (If your speakers can be biamped, this Marantz makes a superb choice for driving the low-frequency half of your system.)

Audiophiles using a preamp or A/V processor with XLR outputs can connect to this amp's XLR inputs and take advantage of the superior sound quality they provide. You could also use this amp to power a second zone. If you're using a speaker selector to divide the second-zone power among multiple rooms, don't worry. There's plenty of juice here to go around.

The MM7025's current-feedback amplifier design provides for nuanced reproduction of fine musical detail and plenty of sonic muscle to support chest-thumping transient peaks. HDAM-SA3 circuits provide high-speed signal response for precise sound.

Features

Current Feedback: The MM7025 is equipped with a current feedback circuit and uses the same complimentary push-pull circuit as the far more expensive SM-11S1 power amp, providing minimal phase shift and excellent detail resolution. The current/voltage conversion section has a Wilson current mirror circuit to improve circuit stability and high-speed processing.

Instant Power Supply: The final stage of the power amp uses the same LAPT (high efficiency power transistor) as the SM-11S1, offering instant power supply capability. The power section has a large transformer and Marantz original 15,000 μF / 71 V x 2 block condensers to provide a powerful, presence filled sound.

Heat Dissipation: The chimney-shaped heat sink efficiently processes the heat emitted from each side of the amp and a quiet cooling fan removes the heat from the chassis. A high-sensitivity temperature sensor IC is used to control the cooling fan's rotation speed to match the amount of heat generated by the amp.

Auto Standby: With the Auto Standby Mode is turned on this unit will enter standby mode after approximately 30 minutes (continuous) with no input signal.

Speaker Outputs: The speaker output terminals are binding posts; they are not 5-way posts, but will accept single banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire. A plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs and they're too far apart for dual banana plugs.

Inputs: There are RCA (unbalanced) and XLR (balanced) inputs. Separate switches for the left and right channels specify which is engaged; useful if you're not using the MM7025 as a stereo amp.

Display: A blue indicator on the front panel display and a blue ring around the display light when the power is on; the blue ring around the display can be turned off if you prefer. Separate red indicators on the display light when the protection circuit or Auto Standby feature is engaged.

Remote Power Control: This unit is equipped with a remote power control function; when a compatible Marantz preamp is connected, this unit's power can be switched on and off simultaneously with the preamp. The RCA Remote Control input is connected to the preamp and the Remote Control output can be connected to other compatible Marantz components; CD player, DVD player, Tuner, etc.

Flasher Input: The IR flasher input is useful with universal remote controls; power and mute remote codes are available for the MM7025.

DC Control: The 3.5mm mini-jack input allows the MM7025's power to be controlled by another device (5-15 V). The DC Control output allows the MM7025 to control the power of another compatible device (12 V/44 mA).

MM7025

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased a pair of these for a project i am doing, but in the mean time i am using them to bi-amp a pair of Martin Logan SL3s. They have a great sound and are easily running the power hungry electrostats, though I am not pushing them hard as the speakers can drop impedence loads when pushed. The soundstage has been great paired with this amplifier. The only reason i give four stars is that one arrived D.O.A. One call to Crutchfield and the exchange process was underway. Excellent service. I had a return label within moments and shipped back the bad amp that very day. Very simple operation when triggered from my receiver. Auto shut off features work splendidly. So far so good.

Pros: Marantz sound, powerful and rich. Balanced and unbalanced inputs available for flexibility of connections. Matches my existing Marantz receiver with the porthole design.

Cons: Not stated as 2 ohm stable. Of 2 ordered one was doa.

Good Sound & Good Looks!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been using this amp with a Marantz NR1602 receiver to drive my Bose 901 VI loudspeakers. It does this quite well. Previously, I used an Adcom GFA5500, which is a much heavier amp, rated 200W per channel into 8 Ohms and 350W / channel into 4 Ohms compared to the Marantz's 140/170 Watt ratings. Despite the power deficit, the Marantz sounds real nice with the 901's and seems to be stout enough for them. Admittedly, the 901's, even considering their EQ, are an easy load as they are fairly sensitive and present a uniformly comfortable impedance.

The MM7025 is very quiet in operation. It has a cooling fan but I have yet to hear it come on. I hear no noise at all with this amp.

Music, TV and movies just sound natural with the MM7025. It's pretty much a case of what goes in is what comes out. It seems to add no color or character of it's own. In my mind, that is exactly what an audio amplifier should do.

The only thing that I've found so far to give Marantz a slight demerit for is the auto-off circuit. It works fine to automatically power down the amp after a pre-set inactive period, but it's not so good at turning it back on! I have to cycle the receiver's power off, then back on, to wake up the MM7025. No biggie, I just use my receivers sleep function. When it sleeps, so does the amp. Then when I turn the receiver on, the remote connection wakes the amp.

Pros: Beautiful looks! (If you appreciate such things!) Quiet operation Neutral sound Manageable size Fair price Good power

Cons: Not rated for 4 Ohm loads Auto power off circuit could be improved by including a signal-sensing function.

Marantz MM7025

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this to use for the left & right main channels of my Marantz SR7005 receiver. I'm very happy with the results. I think the MM7025 does a better job driving the B&W 604 speakers. The remote control connection to the reciever is nice. The amp starts up a few seconds after the receiver is turned on.

Pros: Nice sounding amp.

Cons: None

Great Amplifier

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Using Arcam DAC into Marantz AV7005 to the MM7025, which is then driving B&W PM1s. Replaced a Yamaha receiver with about the same power. The difference is stunning, even the wife, who never listens was immediately captivated. Depth, clarity, power all great. No hard edges to the sound like some other amps I looked at. Really woke up the PM1s.

Pros: Depth, clarity big improvement. Looks match the AV7005 and are nice. Used banana plugs for out and XLR balanced connections for in, which worked great.

Cons: Nothing really.

Great Marantz 2 channel MM7025!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound for 2 channels. Has power and impact to spare. Once it was connected, not easy with only bare wires, worked like a champ! A high end value!

Pros: Great sound. Very nice looks.

Cons: Limited connectivity. Ruins wire with spade ends.

Excellent

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent. Paired with a Peachtree Audio Nova Pre and pushing B&W 683s. Large presence at low volumes. HUGE presence as volume increases. Dead quiet to control chaos depending on the track. Using computer USB, Digital coaxial from CD player and Optical from an Apple Airport Express to stream. Would be the same combo again.

Yes, but you don't have to use it. It's purely optional. It also has a 12V trigger, which works great for me. [ JAMES  Jul 04, 2014 ]
So frustrating it has no auto on feature... I have 5 airplay zones in my home and need and amps I can leave installed in a cabinet that turn on and off automatically when signal is sensed from an Airport Express. I have some older Sonance amps that do that now, but 2 have failed and I need to start replacing them with something better. [ shkalata  Jul 04, 2014 ]
My system shuts down after 30 minutes (phone call with mother-in-law) and did not restart automatically. [ Pat  Jul 04, 2014 ]
I have the mm7025 hooked up to a Marantz receiver there is a remote control cable as well as signal cables to the amp from the receiver. When I turn the receiver on the amp comes on .5 sec delay. the amp stays on as long as the receiver is on. It does go into standby mode when there is no audio signal present, but when in standby the ON blue light stays lit and the fan shuts down. The Amp is truly amazing as far as construction, twice the amp for the money compared to other brands.. [ GEOFFREY B  Jul 03, 2014 ]
I have seen no evidence that it has an auto on feature. My answer would be no to your specific question. However, it does have the capability to install a "trigger", which detects that another device has been turned on. For instance, I have a series of amps, only have to turn on one, the rest are automatically triggered. [ VINCENT JAME  Jul 03, 2014 ]
It depends on how hard you push the Klipsch now and how stout a 100W the Sony receiver is. Most A/V receivers, especially towards the lower end of the market, can't deliver anything like their rated power to all channels simultaneously. The Klipsch should be a relatively easy load, though, so unless you're really rockin', your Sony receiver should have enough power to drive them easily -for stereo music that is. If you like to crank up action flicks, putting an amp like the Marantz on the front channels will really lighten the load on your receiver. And even for stereo music listening, if you like the bass and like to listen at life-like levels, the bigger, beefier amp will definitely do a better job. [ JAMES  Feb 06, 2014 ]
Appreciate the clear and interesting answer. Thank you for taking the time to reply and to educate me. [ Larry Sacks  Jan 13, 2014 ]
Have never heard the fan. It does have one. [ NORMAN T  Jan 11, 2014 ]
It does have a cooling fan. It's speed is matched to the amount of heat that is being generated. I have had this amp for over a year, use it almost daily and have never heard the fan run. This amp has a very low operating temperature. [ KEN  Jan 11, 2014 ]
