Make the PM-8003 the center of your high-quality stereo system. Marantz, one of the world's leaders in high-end home electronics for more than a half-century, has created a first-rate integrated amplifier that's perfectly suited for music lovers who demand superb quality. The PM-8003 delivers outstanding sound from all your audio sources thanks to innovative design, thorough engineering, and rock-solid construction.
Distinctive audiophile touches
Marantz based the PM8003 on design elements found in their top-of-the-line Reference Series seperates. Its preamp and power amp sections both use fully discrete, high-speed current feedback circuits for accurate, detailed sound. A shielded toroidal transformer helps minimize interference and noise, ensuring pristine sound for all of your entertainment sources. And the heavy-duty chassis keeps the PM8003 stable and vibration-free to provide maximum sonic clarity and long-term durability.
The PM8003 offers six audio inputs, including one for a turntable, to provide ample flexibility for connecting your gear. Separate preamp input/line-level output jacks allow you to use the PM8003 as an independent power amplifier or pre-amp for future system expansion. Two sets of speaker outputs let you conveniently bi-wire a compatible pair of main speakers, or power a second pair of speakers in another room. The PM8003's Source Direct mode bypasses the balance and tone control circuits to ensure the purest sound possible.

Everything you always wanted in a stereo receiver, except the radio
An integrated amplifier is essentially a receiver without a built-in AM/FM tuner. You get power to drive your speakers, audio controls, and inputs for music source components. Connect an iPod, a computer, a network music player, or any other device that can play Internet radio, and you may find you have no need for an AM/FM radio.
Marantz PM8003 Reviews
Average Customer Review:
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I own a Marantz Model 30 Integrated Power amplifier that is 35 years old. It is a fantastic piece of equipment and the Marantz PM8003 stereo power amplifier does not disappoint. I am powering 35 year old JBL studio monitor speakers and I could blow the window out of their frames in my house if I wanted to. The JBL studio monitor speakers were the speakers used in recording control rooms 35 years ago to mix the track of a recording and to play them back. The power is very clean and distortion free. 35 years ago I used to sell Marantz and other stereo equipment and Marantz was one of the best. It still is. I would recomend this unit to anyone.
Smooth Sounding Amp
I purchased this amp from the scratch and dent based on my advisor Mark's recommendation. The unit arrived in perfect condition and to this day (2 months later) I can't find a single mark on it. Packaging was perfect and nothing was missing. Anyway, thanks Mark!
Rated at 70 watts rms, this amp produces gobs of power. A very conservative 70 watt rating. The power band comes on instantly and smoothly. I use the amp in a small 11x11 listening room drving a pair of Klipsch speakers. This amp delivers pristine clean power. No noise or distortion. No hums. It's dead quiet. I particularly like the gold plated inputs and the binding posts are first rate. I had never seen binding posts like those on this amp. I am extremely impressed. The moving magnet phono stage is very good and does an admirable job with my vinyl collection. The unit is uncomplicated and extremely easy to use. How refreshing compared to my Denon AVR. Overall the amp is solid with excellent build quality. I feel like I got exactly what I paid for and that makes me feel good about my purchase. With most of the name manufacturers producing fewer and fewer 2 channel audio components, it's really good to see that Marantz still knows how, and still cares, to build a great integrated amp. I've logged about 100 hours of listening on it and am still impressed and pleased with the PM8003. Thanks Crutchfield! Another flawless transaction.

Overview: The Marantz PM8003 is a two-channel integrated amplifier rated at 70 watts x 2 into 8-ohms and 100 watts x 2 into 4-ohms. In both the preamp and power amp sections, the PM8003 uses fully-discrete, high speed current feedback circuits for minimal phase shift and better detail resolution. Even the phono input is a fully discrete, constant-current design optimized for moving magnet phono cartridges. Another discrete implementation, is Marantz's notable HDAM SA3 (the most recent addition to the High Definition Amplifier Module series) which performs critical voltage to current conversions throughout the PM8003.
Chassis Construction: The integrated amplifier's chassis itself includes a triple-layer bottom plate to insure long-term alignment and vibration control. The integrated amplifier's front panel uses a carefully chosen combination of aluminum and glass-reinforced resin to create a distinctive three dimensional appearance. Indirect reflecting blue LEDs indicating input selection, heighten its elegant appearance.
All Discrete Current Feedback Amplifier: Both the pre-amp and main-amp incorporate a high-speed current feedback amp circuit to maintain accuracy and a natural sound field. Marantz' proprietary current-feedback circuit, using discrete components is adopted in the pre-amplifier and power amplifier. It is a high-speed amplifier using the latest technology developed for the higher-grade a amplifier.
HDAM (High Definition Amplifier Module): Marantz uses HDAMs instead of standard op-amps, rendering a more dynamic sound and less susceptibility to radiated noise, heat, and vibration. The V/I converter circuit which is the key block of the current-feedback pre-amplifier and power amplifier, is equivalent to the HDAM-SA3 amp-module developed for higher-grade Marantz components.
CD Direct Buffer Amplifier: The PM8003 incorporates a specialized input buffer amplifier at the CD input, this prevents interference between the left and right channels and from the effects of other circuits. A discrete configuration high-speed buffer amp built on the HDAM SA technology is incorporated into the buffer amp circuit.
Momentary-Current Supply: The PM8003's main amp has the capability to momentarily pass 25 amps or more, providing high-powered drive to the speakers.
Short Power Line: To improve the momentary-current supply, a new layout placing priority on making the large current line connections as short as possible is used. The power supply circuit, main-amp output stage, and heatsink are unified, and the large current line is arranged to be as short as possible while remaining symmetrical.
All-Discrete Current-Feedback Phono Equalizer: The PM8003 provides an all-discrete, current-feedback phono equalizer amplifier for connected MM cartridges turntables.
Double-Shielded Toroidal Transformer: This unit is equipped with a toroidal power transformer to minimize vibration and leakage flux specific to the transformer. Especially to reduce leakage flux, which affects sound quality, the periphery is double-shielded, using a core ring and a short ring.
Large Capacity Block Condenser: A large-capacity condenser of 18,000uF is used in the power circuit of the power amplifier. In the preamplifier, a 4,700uF condenser is used.
Protective Circuit: This unit is equipped with a protective circuit to protect the amplifier circuits and speaker system against damage. If the protective circuit is activated, the sound is instantly muted.
Master Power: A mechanical switch turns the main power on/off. When off, the remote has no effect. When on, the remote can be used to switch between on and standby.
Input Selector: A rotary knob is used to select the input source (Phono, CD, Tuner, AUX/DVD, Recorder 1/2,) for listening.
Bass: A rotary knob to adjust the bass output, +/-10 dB at 50 Hz.
Treble: A rotary knob to adjust the treble output, +/-10 dB at 20 kHz.
Balance: A rotary knob to adjust the left/right balance.
Speakers: This knob is for selecting the speakers connected to the Speakers System A and/or B terminals on the unit's rear-panel. When you use headphones, set the knob to Off.
Power Amp Direct: This button, when pressed, allows the PM8003 to act as a power amplifier.
Source Direct: When source direct is engaged the bass, treble, and balance circuits are bypassed.
Remote Control: The supplied wireless remote will control the PM8003 and Marantz CD players, DVD players, tuners, and tape decks.
Speakers: The speaker system A and system B outputs are binding posts. They are not 5-way posts, but will accept single banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire.
Line Inputs: The CD, Tuner, and Aux/DVD inputs are RCA connectors.
Recorder: Recorder 1 and Recorder 2 have RCA inputs and outputs.
Phono: The RCA phono input will accept moving magnet cartridges. There is a ground terminal beside the phono input.
Pre Out: Stereo RCA outputs feed a powered subwoofer or another amplifier.
Power Amp Direct In: The PM8003 can be used as the main amp in a system with a different pre-amp. In this case press the Power Amp Direct button on the front panel of the unit.
Remote control: An RCA input and an RCA output are used with other compatible Marantz components using the D.BUS remote system, CD player, DVD player, Tuner, etc. This allows the included remote to control the other Marantz components.
Headphone: A standard 1/4" headphone jack is on the front panel. The speaker outputs are not automatically muted when you plug in headphones so the speakers must be manually turned off.
