Renowned Marantz design and performance
Meticulous engineering and high-quality construction are the hallmarks of Marantz receivers. The SR4023 starts with a front panel made of fiberglass-reinforced aluminum. This advanced composite material helps shield internal circuitry from performance-robbing interference and vibration. Inside, this receiver's oversized power supply and fully-discrete amplifier design pack plenty of high-current power to deliver the excitement and dynamics of your favorite tunes.

Flexible connections
The receiver's back panel offers enough inputs to hook up a total of eight components, including a turntable, and four audio/video components. A set of pre-amp out/main-amp input jacks let you add an external power amp for future system expansion. And Marantz even included an output for connecting a powered subwoofer. Plus, the SR4023's RS232 port and infrared flasher inputs allow you to operate this receiver as part of a whole-house system.

Product Overview:

Overview: The Marantz SR4023 Stereo Receiver boasts 80 watts of continuous output from each channel and includes video switching capability to fully integrate a 2.0 home entertainment system that includes both audio and video sources. From its two sets of loudspeaker outputs, to its preamp output/main amp input jacks, the SR4023 is built to support a wide variety of system configurations. The Marantz stereo receiver can be used as a home theater 2.0 system, a secondary zone, or a main music system. There is a front panel infrared sensor and three pre-programmed code sets that make the receiver well-suited for remote zone use.

Front Panel Design: The receiver's front panel features an aluminum extrusion which shields internal circuitry and absorbs internal and external resonances.

Front Panel Lock: You can lock all the controls on the front panel of the unit, accept for the Power button, to prevent anyone else from changing the settings on your receiver.

Dimmer: The unit's front-panel display can be dimmed or turned completely off.

Sleep Timer: The receiver offers a Sleep Timer which will automatically turn the unit off after 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, or 120 minutes.

Memory Backup: This unit is equipped with a backup function to prevent memory data such as the preset memory from being erased.

Audio Features

Amplifier Section: The Marantz SR4023 features a high quality full discrete stereo power amplifier rated at 80 watts x 2 channel in 8-ohms at 20Hz to 20,000Hz with 0.08% THD.

Note: The manual incorrectly states amplifier rating frequency range of 40Hz to 20,000Hz.

AM/FM Tuner: The Marantz SR4023 features a built-in AM/FM tuner which can automatically or manually store up to 50 AM/FM presets that can be labeled and viewed in a channel list.

Source Direct: You can bypass the tone control circuit of the receiver and route the audio signal directly to provide the purest sound quality.

Bass And Treble: The SR4023 offers separate Bass and Treble controls to increase or decrease the low and high frequencies of your music.

Mute: This feature temporarily silences all speaker outputs and the headphone output of the receiver but will not affect any recording or dubbing through the unit.

Audio Inputs: There are 8 stereo audio RCA inputs (4 of which are linked to video inputs) and 3 stereo audio RCA outputs (1 of which is linked to a video output).

Note: One of the stereo audio inputs is a Phono input which also features a ground terminal.

Main In Jacks: The receiver features a pair of RCA jacks for connecting an external pre-amplifier so you can use this unit as a power amplifier.

Preamp Output Jacks: The receiver is equipped with a stereo RCA preamp output for connecting an external power amplifier to the SR4023 so you can use the SR4023 as a preamplifier.

Subwoofer Preamp Output: The receiver features a mono-RCA jack for connecting a powered subwoofer.

Speaker Terminals: The SR4023 has binding post speaker terminals for the receiver A and B channels. The binding posts can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and single banana plugs. The terminals are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs. The collar surrounding the binding post terminals prevent the use of spade connectors.

Headphone Output: The receiver features a 1/4" stereo headphone jack on its front panel for connecting a pair of optional headphones. The unit's speakers will automatically be turned off when a set of headphones are connected.

Video Features

Video Inputs/Output: The SR4023 features 4 composite video inputs (DVD, DSS, AUX, VCR) and video output (VCR). The video output can be used to connected a video tape recorder for making recordings through the receiver.

Monitor Output: The Marantz SR4023 is equipped with a composite video monitor output to connect the receiver to your television.

Remote Control

Remote Control: The supplied remote control contains 3 sets of remote control codes and can be used to control up to 3 receivers in one location.

Flasher In: This 3.5mm input is used to control the SR4023 from an external key-pad (sold separately).

Remote In/Out: These RCA input/output connectors allow you to connect the SR4023 to a Marantz component equipped with remote control (RC-5) terminals.

RS-232C: The RS-232C port is to be used in conjunction with an external controller to control the operation of the unit by using an external device.

Does this reciever require a t.v. for set up? I purchased a marantz recently and had to return it b/c i am simply using it to run my cd, phono, and ipod...I am not using it with a t.v. for any reason.

Chris, I am unclear as to your question. I just bought this model and use it exclusively for CDs and radio. I have Fios for tv.. When installing the amp it did not require a TV. Germaine

No, Does not require a TV for setup. This Marantz receiver is awesome. I replaced a Harmon Kardon. It makes the Harmon Kardon sound like an AM radio The Marantz SR4023 is a Great Receiver.

Chris, The short answer is... No, you don't have to connect a TV. I use my Marantz SR403 receiver for just audio. That is, I don't use video inputs and outputs. I do, however, use the VCR Out as a line-level output to my PC so that I can record and digitize material from the audio sources connected to the receiver; e.g., phono turntable -- and I have two reel-to-reel tape recorders connected to the two Tape input/output connections. It's next to impossible to find a purely audio-only receiver these days and the number of audio inputs/outputs the SR4023 offers really suited my needs. I hope this is of some help.

This receiver can be used as a home theater system or a stereo receiver only. That is how I am using it. I have it hooked up to a CD player a phonograph and Sirius xml satellite radio.
