Marantz's TT42P turntable makes it easy to breathe new life into your record collection. It offers both 33-1/3 or 45 rpm playback speeds with the flick of a switch so you can enjoy your LPs and 45s for years to come. Marantz even includes a 45 rpm adapter for added convenience. This 'table's sturdy base and belt-drive design minimize the vibrations that can compromise sound quality. The included moving magnet cartridge delivers smooth, detailed sound, and comes pre-mounted for quick and easy setup.
This turntable gives you convenient fully automatic operation, with auto-return and shut-off. A cueing lift lever also lets you manually raise the tonearm and place it precisely on any track you wish without the risk of scratching your records. The included detachable dust cover helps keep your 'table clean between uses.
The TT42P features a built-in preamp for hassle-free connection to a system that lacks a dedicated phono input, such as those that include many of a number of modern home theater receivers. Simply plug the turntable into any normal line-level input (just as you would a CD player) and you're ready to play vinyl.
Love this turntable, upgraded my system and this was the perfect addition. The built in amplifier works fantastic and the unit has smooth quiet operation.
Pros: High quality
The turn-table was just as advertised, the simplest of installations, instructions easy to read, set up just as easy. The unit performed well or as expected. It was the high cost to overall value of the unit that prevents any higher rating. After receiving, installing and using it, it became apparent that the quality for the cost was not there. This is a no frills unit, but at the price you pay you expect more for you money. I have give kudo's to Crutchfield, far superior in customer service, its the only company I deal with for my electronics. going back over 20 years.
Pros: It works as advertised, no problems with the unit, super easy set-up
Cons: The overall cost to value lacking greatly, if it were priced several hundreds less it would be worth the money
I highly regard Marantz products going back to the 60's. That is the reason I purchased this Marantz product. I am completely satisfied with it. It is connected to a Marantz NR 1403 AV Receiver. I am happy with this combination.
Works perfectly .
Pros: Easy setup ,really nice sound.
great product and performs flawlessly.
great for the price
Happy with the performance and sound. Not so much with the quality or customer service.
Pros: Automatic start/stop, looks nice, sounds great on my Polk RTI A9.
Cons: For the price there should be an adjustable counter balance to allow you to install a different needle/cartridge. After approximately 6 months the springs for the hinges on the dust cover wore out and will no longer hold the cover in the upright position. Contacted Marantz for replacement parts and received no response. It would be nice if there was a switch built in to bypass the built in phono preamp.
I went shopping for a turntable after my trusty old Dual 1228 automatic died after 39 years. Since I am an an "old school" audiophile, I was in for quite an awakening: the new turntables are not like the old ones. They are made primarily for downloading music to digital sources and look flimsy and cheap, and are so-so for listening to vinyl albums. After careful research, I came across the TT42P. While it cost considerably more than the cheaper units, I didn't want to pay over $500 (the higher-end tables cost $1000+). Since I'm used to the older features (strobe lights, anti-skate control, nice heavy platters, beautiful wood bases) this turntable only offers the basic features. But you know what? I don't need all of the features I was used to. The cueing control is well damped and smooth, and the start/stop switch works well (even though it could be closer to the front for easier operation). I currently have it connected to a Yamaha Home Theatre receiver (so I needed the preamp built into the table), and it sounds BEAUTIFUL. The supplied cartridge sounds good, and the turntable operation is very smooth. Even though the table comes with a ground wire, my receiver does not have one. I don't need it, as there are no hums or another sounds coming from the table. Overall, I think the Marantz TT42P turntable is a very well made unit, and at a reasonable price. I hope to enjoy it for another 30 years...
Pros: The shipment arrived in 3 business days, great Crutchfield service and price, The turntable is very beautiful & stylish - compliments my other components, After reading the instructions - Easy set up; remove 2 shipping clips, put the platter on, and put the hinges on for the dust cover. It takes 15 minutes tops... No setting of any counterweight, Anti-skate controls - plug it in and play...
Cons: Platter is VERY light (for us "old heads" who are used to massive, heavy platters), The power plug/adapter head is larger than usual and may not plug into the back of some receivers due to it's size.
Great product, plays exceptionally well. Good price although not cheap, but not over priced.
Pros: Very smooth handling of the needle and arm, simple controls
Cons: The power cable plug on the back of the TT is very sensitive to touch. Space in my cabinet is limited so any movement of the TT when opening or closing the plastic top sometimes interrupts power.
Everything about my experience with Crutchfield was smooth and a pleasure. The advice from customer support was "spot on". The product arrived exactly as promised. The Marantz turntable was packed drywall, easy to install and sounds great.
great product for albums to play, clean design, low profile, quick hook-up!!!!!!

Picked this turntable because of the following: A. matched my current Marantz receiver B. received great reviews on this website and across the internet C. built in phono pre-amp (not for an audiophile setup so imagine the built-in will be high enough quality [ DARREN Feb 10, 2016 ]

Thanks for your question. It doesn't look like we have gotten any feedback from other customers on your questions. I would recommend contacting an Advisor by phone or online to discuss the tracking force. As for the phono pre-amp, it does not appear that this player has the ability to connect to an external phono preamp. It is only recommended for connecting directly into the standard RCA level input of a receiver or similar source unit. [ Jeff Dec 30, 2013 ] Staff
