About the Mirage OMD-5
Beneath its glossy finish and solid, hand-crafted cabinet, Mirage's top-of-the-line bookshelf speaker features advanced speaker technology capable of filling a room with rich, dynamic sound. Music and movies come alive with startling clarity, exceptional depth, and a natural warmth.
Innovative technology for exceptionally open, lifelike sound
The key to this speaker's expansive, true-to-life sound is Mirage's exclusive Omnipolar® technology. Thanks to the saucer-shaped Omniguide mounted above its top drivers (see "Photos" tab above), the OMD-5 can disperse sound evenly in a 360° pattern. The result: a deeper, wider, taller soundstage that transforms your entire listening space into a "sweet spot." Mirage's approach delivers a combination of direct and reflected sound that's more like what we hear in real life. And you won't have to anchor yourself to one primary seat — you'll experience natural audio throughout the room.
Flexible placement and system-building options
The OMD-5's compact size and 360° sound pattern let you place it almost anywhere. Set it on a shelf or stand, or use the included hardware to mount it on a wall. Use a pair of these speakers for a neat and compact stereo system, or team multiple OMD-5s with a powered sub and Mirage's OMD-C1 center channel speaker for enveloping, high-impact surround sound.

Features
Overview: The Mirage OMD-5 is a bookshelf/satellite speaker that uses sophisticated driver technology and Mirage's exclusive OMNIPOLAR technology to make the small bookshelf speaker ideal for virtually any sound application. The speaker is available in a Gloss Rosewood and Gloss Black finish.
Note: The speaker is sold individually; not as a pair.
OMNIPOLAR Technology: This technology radiates sound in a perfectly spherical dispersion pattern, expanding the sweet spot to encompass virtually the entire room.
OMNIGUIDE Design: The design consists of a conically shaped cylinder that is responsible for reflecting sound in a perfect 360 degree pattern. This unique design guarantees the same tonal balance and dispersion characteristics no matter how and where you mount the speakers.
- The speaker should be inverted with grille facing downwards when it is mounted above 6 feet.
- The speaker should be mounted normally with the grill facing up when it is mounted below 6 feet.
Applications: The OMD-5 is a very versatile speaker since it can be used as a front, center channel or surround speaker. You can use these satellites to create a complete home theater speaker system or a dedicated 2-channel stereo setup.
Voice Matching: This speaker can be matched up with Mirage's OMD-C1 or OMD-C2 center channel, Mirage's OMD-28 or OMD-15 floor standing speakers, and Mirage's OMD-R rear surround speakers to create a home theater speaker system.
Note: The Mirage OMND-S10 subwoofer for Home theater or 2-channel applications when using the OMD-5 speaker is recommended.
Video Shielded: The speaker is magnetically shielded so you can even place on or next to your television without distortion.
Drivers: The drivers used in the OMD-5 are as follows:
- Woofer: The speaker features a 5.5" polypropylene titanium deposit hybrid woofer with a ribbed elliptical rubber surround mounted at the top of the sealed cabinet.
- Tweeter: Floating above the woofer is a precisely angled cast aluminum OMNIGUIDE module that houses the speaker's proprietary 1" PTH tweeter.
Enclosure: The cabinet is made of very solid inert medium density fiberboard (MDF) which creates a solid, flex-free cabinet which eliminates music altering distortion. The enclosure is curved and completely sealed.
Mounting Options: The speaker can be wall mounted using the supplied plastic wall bracket. The wall bracket is attached to the speaker using the supplied 9mm bolt. The screws needed to hang the bracket from the wall are not provided. The speakers also have a flat base so they can be placed on stands or a shelf. The footprint of the speaker measures 6.5625" wide x 7.4375" deep.
Speaker Terminals: The OMD-5 uses high quality gold-plated binding posts located on the rear of the speaker. The terminals will accept a wide range of connector type including spade lugs, banana plugs or pin type connectors.

As soon as I turned them on, I was amazed by the crisp open sound. They really do spread the sound all around the room. I suspect they might do better with a subwoofer even in a 2 channel setup like mine. What bass there is sounds tight and true.
