Features

Overview: The Mirage Omni-S8 is a compact powered subwoofer that features an 8" woofer and a 100 watt internal amplifier.

Ribbed Elliptical Surround: The Omni-S8 features a woofer with a Ribbed Elliptical Surround, which is a proprietary component that has been designed to increase excursion, eliminate distortion and raise efficiency. This feature eliminates any surround dimpling so this subwoofer can play lower with greater output and fidelity.

Bass Reflex Cabinet: The down firing port of the Omni-S8 increases output without port noise, using the floor as a loading surface to augment the yield of this unique subwoofer which allows the subwoofer to deliver natural and lifelike sound.

Amplifier Section: The powered subwoofer has a built-in 100 watt RMS internal amplifier.

Driver: The Omni-S8 feature a front firing 8-inch titanium deposit hybrid woofer with a ribbed elliptical surround which performs like a much large subwoofer and has a frequency response down to 27Hz.

Status Indicator: The LED found on the front panel will illuminate when the subwoofer is connected to an AC source and when the unit is active. The LED will display in red when the unit is plugged in but is not receiving a signal and will display green when the unit is receiving a signal.

Controls

Front Panel Controls: The powered subwoofer uses front panel controls to make it easy to adjust the volume and crossover at any time.

Subwoofer Level: This knob can be adjusted to control the level of output from your subwoofer. The level chosen should allow the subwoofer to blend its output with that of the rest of your audio system.

Frequency Control: This control allows for the adjustment of the low-pass filter. Adjustments can be made from 40Hz to 120Hz. This will determine the highest frequency that the subwoofer will play.

Phase Control: This switch allows for the adjustment of the phase of the subwoofer, in relation to the speakers used in your system. You can choose either 0 degrees or 180 degrees.

Filter Mode: This switch allows for the selection of either "Filter On" or "Filter Off". Choose "Filter Off" when you are using a receiver with a dedicated LFE out that has its own crossover filter.

Power Mode: This is the only control function that is found on the rear panel. This switch can be set to either On, Off or Auto. If the switch is in the Off position, the subwoofer will not power up. If the switch is in the On position, it will constantly remain on. When the switch is in the Auto position, when a signal is present the subwoofer will turn on and when will automatically turn off several minutes after a signal is no longer present.

Connections

Sub Input: This input is an RCA type mono input that will be hooked up to your receiver's subwoofer output.

High Level Input: These are spring post type speaker connectors. The high-level inputs are designed to be used with receiver or amplifiers that do no incorporate any RCA type subwoofer outputs.

Mirage Omni S8 is a Great Value

Written By John S., Winter Springs, FL on Thursday, September 15, 2011

The Mirage Omni S8 is a great subwoofer for the price. It is being utilized with a Yamaha Amplifier so the crossover is not being used. I only have the S8 on half output and it is cranking out solid quality low frequency sounds. Even at high output, the bass tones are very crisp. Great Product.

Great Sub at a Great Price Point

Written By Tim, Baton Rouge, La on Monday, July 11, 2011

Perfect size for my den, has plenty of low bass response and power. Really don't need to get anything bigger or more powerful. Feels very solid and well built. Something rare, not built in China! Actually made in Canada, imagine that. Nice controls, and is easy to set up. Five stars in my book.

Mirage OMNI S8

Written By pham, cherry hill, nj on Monday, August 17, 2009

this sub has more than enough boom for the buck. thought about
purchasing the S10...would have been a waste of money. this sub is great
for music as well as movies. while paired to my nanosat prestige system it
feels as though the movies have come to me. you may find less expensive
hardware at other websites, but no one has customer service or product
availability like crutchfield. i've been dealing with them off and on for about
20 years...and never been disappointed. great staff and products...who
else is open until midnite to answer your questions?...nobody!!!

Great soundbar combo

Written By Tom, Salisbury, NC on Monday, May 25, 2009

I ordered the Omni S8 to enhance the bass with the Polk Surround 360. I also needed a small footprint because of the layout in the room I was using. I have now passed the 50 hour break-in period and am well pleased with the unit. It does well on both movies and music, I use the system at about a 50/50 split so it does matter that it does music well. I realize that I could have gotten a much bigger sub and rattled the windows and walls but that was not what I was looking for. I am well satisfied with the additional bass this provides that the Soundbar didn't. It is great in combo with a soundbar.

Perfect

Written By Craig, Lansing, MI on Thursday, November 20, 2008

This sub will fill your every need. As I was shopping I kept telling myself to go bigger and better. I ended up restraining myself and not purchasing the 10" sub. I found out upon receipt of this sub I made the right decision. It has plenty of power and deep lows. Construction is bullet proof and it looks great too. One more plus is it doesn't take up as much space as the 10" would. Save a hundred bucks and by this one, MIRAGE OMNI S8.

S-8 = GREAT

Written By David, Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Even though I am using a 100 watt cheap Sony amp (DG520) for a basic
2.1 application, I've got something really special. I've paired my NANOSATS
with Mirage's S-8 powered subwoofer. All I can say is that this is
absolutely an affordable way to make a small room seem like it's an IMAX.
well, not really, but at least like a much more expensive system. The small
satellites (slightly smaller than non-Lifestyle Bose satellites) put out a ton
of sound and deliver beautiful highs and mids. The lows are booming from
the compact powered S-8. I watched King Kong last night and was thrilled
with the output. Times are tough. Money is tight. If you need to drown
out the outside world, this is a great and affordable way to do it. Thank
you Crutchfield!

Great Subwoofer

Written By mmanyari, Chicago, IL on Wednesday, March 26, 2008

It's a very good subwoofer and it complements my Mirage Nanosat speakers. The sound of the bass is superb compared to other subwoofers that I have purchased in the past.

Amazing Little Sub!

Written By jrssol1, Bloomfield Hills, MI on Tuesday, December 26, 2006

Just replaced an old Bose Lifestyle system (no loss there) with an Onkyo 703 receiver (great price at Crutchfield), 4 Mirage Nanosat Prestige sats, 1 Mirage Nanosat Prestige center-channel, and the Mirage S8 sub in a 16'x20' carpeted room (13' foot listening/viewing distance) with 8' ceilings that is fairly open to the rest of our medium-sized condo. I have the S8 about 6' away from a corner, 1' away from the cabinet-style tv stand, and less than 1' away from the wall behind it with the front/cone facing the listener. I have all the sat crossovers and LFE low-pass filter set via the Onkyo at 120Mhz (Mirage's recommendation); the sound is very seamless/natural and deep. My ears started to hurt long before I could detect any significant distortion out of the S8 (or the sats). Contrary to another reviewer, there is NO sign of boominess, which might be attributable to placement, crossover, and/or level adjustment issues. Oh, and did I mention that the S8 is very nicely finished and looks great without overpowering the room? I couldn't be more satisfied with this purchase (cripes, even my wife likes it)! Now, if you have a notably larger room, high ceilings and/or like to crank it up to ear-bleeding levels with lots of people yelling/dancing, you may want to consider the S10 or S12.
