Q
Somebody had mentioned the signal can be lower quality with low flying aircraft. I live near an Air Force Base with low flying aircraft overhead regularly. Would my location be an issue with this particular antenna?

Yes it will. I'm sure how much disturbance is determined by each individual airport. I'm beside the old Seward AFB in Smyrna TN that is now a commercial airport. It's growing a lot. And it's very common to have 10 to 50 planes go by during the week. It can be annoying but, Comcast is much more annoying. But, once I purchase a DVR, my worries are over. I have a tremendous amount of channels and shows,as well. My favorite are history documentaries, which I am severely short of. But PBS makes up for ALLLL the other channels with things I didn't even know I liked. Lol

I live near an AF base as well. Never had a problem. Though I really only use it in the evenings.

I returned this antenna because it did not receive well enough for me. the aircraft at most will only cause a blink. the bigger problem would be the radar in use.

Kevin, I use mine at a marina with a large amount of sailboats. I do not have a problem with all the masts that surround the antenna. I don't know if this will help you with your choice

This antenna is so/so. Way overpriced for what little improvement in other flat ant. found at online budget websites. Yes, when the FCC approved digital TV - they lowered transmitter power drastically and shoved the frequencies closer together. DO NOT even try one of these indoor ants. without a signal amplifier of at least 15 to 20Db. gain. Yes when aircraft go over and even when the neighbor drives down our shared driveway the signal goes crazy. (Depends on station's signal strength) If your stations are located at different compass headings - good luck. Flat,(horizontal), - these ant. have very poor gain. I use 2 of these vertically aimed at the 2 mountains where the transmitters are located.

Q
Can you add an amplifier to this to increase the reception?

Sorry, I have no idea.

I would think that you can add an amplifier. I may add one in the near future, but I haven't tried it yet

I am using an amplifier with this antenna. But in my case, I chose to use the amp because I am splitting the signal 6 ways. I use a PDI MoCA Bypass amp model PDI-MBA-101-A, as it was left in my attic from when I had FiOS TV. Conveniently works well!

Q
Two questions: Can this be mounted in the attic? Do you need a ground wire?
anilkumar  Oct 02, 2014

I don't know about the attic mount as I was just using it on a book shelf. I can't remember if it needed a ground wire or not, but I don't believe it did. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I couldn't get this antenna to work here in NYC so I returned it.
damion  Oct 06, 2014

Q #1. Yes. While mine is not mounted in an attic, I have it mounted on the inside of my tractor trailer inside my sleeper area up high. Unless I'm really in the middle of no where (And yes, I have been there) I still get a great signal, just as if it were mounted outside. Q #2. No. It requires no ground. The coax does it all with one cable and that's it.
joel  Oct 04, 2014
A
It could be mounted in an attic but we put ours outside for better reception. Used just the one cable, no ground wire.
liz  Oct 04, 2014

Mine is in my attic. I did not even mount it, but rather just set it on one of the rafters. Orienting it for best reception took several adjustments due to my particular location (direction of local broadcast towers, plus a large metal ventilation duct in my attic near my attic access hatch). As such, I was a little reluctant to mount it in a specific spot for fear of needing to make future adjustments. Mine is not using any ground wire--though if there is one (and I cannot really recall), using it is probably advisable. I have the antenna lead running into a powered amplified splitter for distribution to several rooms. It works very well most of the time, though is susceptible to unfavorable weather conditions and, apparently, the occasional low-flying aircraft.
tom  Oct 03, 2014

No ground wire required. Not sure about attic. Had mine outside.
todd  Oct 02, 2014

As far as my research, it can be mounted in attic how ever you may get better reception on the roof. Ground wire is always good idea, not sure if it is a must

It not work for me single reception was weak. I dot recommend

Q
how good is the VHF reception?

Sorry for delayed response, I was out of town. I settled for this solution after trying several other options. This antenna provided the best response for my situation. The reception was consistently 20-30% better than other antenna's I tried. I ended up mounting this antenna under the eve outside. I still have occasional problems with a couple of channels - but consider that OK given I have a house and trees blocking line of site to those transmitters.

i have HD tv and only watch pbs..I mounted on a mast but only about 10 foot above roof line of the addition room the tv is in. The primary house has a higher roof. Reception is in out especially when the wind blows even though the stations are 1 and about 3 miles from me. I have not been able to get decent reception....soon I'll give up and buy internet.
elaine  Feb 03, 2014

Excellent. Probably the best "Non-amplified" antenna on the market today.
