Product Research

Features

Overview: Versa-Pods by Select Increments are black plastic enclosures designed to accept 4" full-range car speakers. Versa-Pods come in pairs, and are molded to fit into multiple locations in the interior of your vehicle. Originally designed for Jeeps, Versa-Pods are versatile enough to be used in just about any vehicle, motorcycle, or all-terrain vehicle.

Design: Versa-Pods are molded to be mirror-images of each other, making a "left" and a "right" pod. They have flat bottoms and two flat areas on each side, so they'll fit into many locations, including rear decks, under seats, and on either side of a console. Each Versa-Pod is filled with Polyester Fiber stuffing, and comes with a grommet (7/16") and self-tapping mounting screws. They can also be mounted using hook and loop fasteners or dual-sided tape.

Speaker Mounting Specs: Each Versa-Pod has the following mounting dimensions:

  • Speaker Cutout: 3.77"
  • Maximum Frame Diameter: 5.37"
  • Maximum Mounting Depth: approximately 2.5"

Customer Q&A

9 questions already asked

Q
would a pair of JL Audio C2-350x fit with these pods?
erick  Nov 26, 2022
1 answer
A
It's not a perfect fit sadly, Erick. These Select Increments Versa-Pods are designed for 4" speakers and have a hole cutout of 3.77". The JL C2-350x is a 3.5" speaker and it requires a cutout of 3.19" so they would need a spacer, or a custom bracket made to compensate for that difference. You can always grab the Metra 12x12 sheet in the link below to make them if you do not mind doing custom work. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ABS316/Metra-ABS316.html

Q
Will my Skars VX4-ST 4 inch super tweeters fit in Versa pods. The magnets are 3.54" wide and the length from top to bottom magnet is 2.56". Will the speaker bottom out on the magnet before their fully inserted in these enclosures?
henry  May 26, 2022
1 answer
A
The depth of your speakers may be the only issue, but not by much. We don't have research on those speakers because we don't carry the Skar brand (may be worth a call to them to confirm the exact specs), but here are the specs on the fitment for the pods. Speaker Cutout: 3.77" Maximum Frame Diameter: 5.37" Maximum Mounting Depth: approximately 2.5"

Q
What is the internal volume of the enclosure in cubic feet?
holcomb  Dec 27, 2015
1 answer
A
There's not enough information available to determine the exact internal volume in cu. ft. However, based on the dimensions that are given, each enclosure would provide roughly 0.079 cu. ft. of internal space. For more details on the exact internal volume, you may want to try contacting the manufacturer, Select Increments, directly at 610-345-9044.

Q
Will these 4" versa pods work with the 4" sound ordnance speaker grills you offer? Age the outside dimensions of said speaker grills slightly smaller than these pods? Thanks!
jon  Aug 29, 2015
1 answer
A
Hi Jon. Offhand I'm not seeing a listing for 4" speaker grills from Sound Ordnance. You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility. They'll be able to help you track down a compatible grill.

Q
With these pods do you use the polyester stuffing comes with the pods or do you remove it, which would have the better sound?
robert  May 19, 2015
7 answers
A
It depends on the speaker and desired outcome. The stuffing is a means to make the enclosure 'appear' larger to the speaker mounted in it; it's an old trick when subs are mounted in a box slightly smaller than their specs call for. If you speakers have a spec for enclosure size, and these are too small, leave the filling in to help that. When it comes to 4" drivers, though, the bass output is generally limited and there will probably be almost no difference in sound between leaving the filling in or out. If you're curious, have a listen with it in, then with it out, and use whichever sounds best to your ear.
donna  May 20, 2015
A
You use the filling. It will keep the sound from echoing.
greg  May 19, 2015
A
I had the 4" pod, with that size speaker I would use the polyfill
dan  May 19, 2015
A
I left it in the pod. Not sure if sound is better with or without as I didn't try.
brian l  May 19, 2015
A
I used the stuffing, and the sound is fine. I can't advise on what it would be without. Hary
gary  May 19, 2015
A
I left the stuffing in place on the assuming that they would make better sound. My application is a 1963 alfa romeo convertible and any sound in that car is marginal at best.
neil  May 19, 2015
A
The instructions say to leave the stuffing in. I assume it helps dampen vibrations or creates additional resonance. MIne have stuffing in, and sound quality is good. Guessing the sound would not be improved by removal. Just be sure to take it out during installation; otherwise, it gets wrapped around screws and makes a mess.
