THIEL CS1.7 aluminum woofer and dome tweeter

Advanced driver design for low-distortion sound

The CS1.7's extraordinary performance comes from the attention THIEL pays to the details. The speaker's precision aluminum dome tweeter, based on the one used in their popular CS1.6 tower, has been highly optimized for the CS1.7 with a new voice coil, new magnetic circuit, and a reworked aluminum diaphragm. It also features a short coil/long gap design. Unlike the voice coils found in most speakers that extend outside the magnet, the deliberately short voice coil always "sees" the optimum magnetic field as it travels back and forth. This eliminates distortion caused by variances in magnetic strength. The result: crystal-clear highs, spot-on imaging, and an exceptionally wide, deep soundstage.

Richly detailed, musical bass

Bass comes courtesy of THIEL's all-new 6-1/2" aluminum Star Diaphragm woofer. This potent driver boasts a cast aluminum chassis for added rigidity and a large 3" diameter voice coil. The large diameter coil distributes its driving force over a large area of the diaphragm rather than concentrating it at the center. This helps the diaphragm keep the proper shape, for clear and open sound reproduction. The woofer also takes advantage of THIEL's short coil/long gap design to help eliminate distortion. It all adds up to accurate, musical bass that perfectly complements the treble without being "boomy" or overbearing.

Vault-like cabinet that squelches unwanted vibration

Low-level cabinet vibrations can diminish the purity of sound when you're playing music and movies. The CS1.7's one-inch-thick MDF cabinet walls and two-inch-thick front baffle increase rigidity to prevent the enclosure from vibrating, preserving even the most minute details. The front of the enclosure slopes back, placing the voice coils of both drivers on the same plane. This allows all frequencies to reach your ears at the same time for the most complete and accurate sound reproduction. The cabinet exterior comes in your choice of fine hardwood veneers, creating a luxurious and attractive loudspeaker with a furniture-grade finish.

How do these speakers sound? Are they a little bright with the metal woofer?

A
Still in their "break-in" period, but yes, not a deep clean bass sound that I hoped for...
