A heritage of transparent, high-accuracy sound continues
THIEL's long tradition of speaker designs that reproduce recorded sound as accurately as possible proudly continues with the stunning CS2.7. This three-way floor-standing tower's slender design, beautifully hand-crafted cabinet, and sonic performance make it a great choice for audiophile music systems and high-end home theaters alike.
A high-tech tweeter/midrange combo
The secret to the CS2.7's incredibly lifelike sound starts with its state-of-the-art coaxial driver. Inspired by THIEL's flagship CS3.7 tower, this driver array houses an anodized aluminum tweeter mounted inside a uniquely ribbed aluminum midrange cone. This ingenious design maintains the proper time alignment for the high and midrange frequencies, creating unparalleled accuracy and realism. Plus, this driver's large-diameter voice coil further braces the midrange against out-of-phase bending common in virtually all other loudspeaker drivers.
"THIEL has a long track record of producing some of the best speakers around, but this time it has taken a major step forward…the CS2.7 is one of the most neutral, detailed, and transparent speakers I've heard…. One hell of a speaker—and one your wife or partner is likely to be happy to live with."
— From Anthony H. Cordesman's review in The Absolute Sound, April, 2013
Richly detailed, musical bass
Bass comes courtesy of an aluminum woofer and passive radiator. A motor structure consisting of a short voice coil sitting inside a large magnet effortlessly drives the woofer. Unlike the voice coils found in most speakers that extend outside the magnet, the deliberately short voice coil always "sees" the optimum magnetic field as it travels back and forth. This eliminates distortion caused by variances in magnetic strength. The passive radiator increases the speaker's output. It all adds up to accurate, musical bass that perfectly complements the treble without being "boomy" or overbearing.
State-of-the-art crossover
The "unsung hero" of any speaker is the crossover — it directs the right frequencies to the right drivers so you don't have a tweeter trying to reproduce bass and a woofer trying to reproduce highs. THIEL meticulously engineered their first-order crossover to achieve tonal neutrality. The advanced crossover ensures that musical information such as amplitude, phase, and time remain faithful to the original signal. And THIEL uses only top-notch components that don't mask fine detail. Their high-quality capacitors and pure copper air-core inductors are among the best in the industry.
A finely crafted cabinet
Low-level cabinet vibrations can diminish the purity of sound when you're playing music and movies. The new CS2.7 replaces the one-inch-thick MDF cabinet walls of previous CS2 series models with much more robust curved plywood. The increase in rigidity prevents the enclosure from vibrating in sympathy with the movement of the drivers, preserving even the most minute details. The front of the enclosure slopes back, placing the voice coils of all three drivers on the same plane. This allows all frequencies to reach your ears at the same time for the most complete and accurate sound reproduction. The cabinet exterior is then laminated in your choice of fine hardwood veneer, creating a luxurious and attractive loudspeaker with a furniture grade finish.
