Our take on the Mitsubishi LT-52149

The Mitsubishi LT-52149 stands out for its ability to deliver thrilling pictures and sounds from a sleek, slender flat-panel HDTV. A slim panel beneath the screen conceals a 16-speaker array, which delivers surround sound effects for TV shows, movies and video games — without the need for rear speakers. Dolby® Digital processing and amplification for the speaker system are built in. For true full-range sound, simply connect the TV's subwoofer output to a powered sub.

Sound Projector technology works with your room to immerse you in sound
The LT-52149 is the first TV to employ Sound Projector technology. The multi-speaker array combines with advanced signal processing to precisely beam sounds off your walls, placing rear-channel information behind and to the sides of viewers. Front-channel sounds are delayed slightly so that everything arrives at your ears at the right time, producing a wraparound soundstage. This system can't match the performance of a component surround system, but it's a major upgrade over conventional TV speakers.

A built-in CableCARD-ready tuner can further simplify installation
The LT-52149's built-in CableCARD-ready tuner enables an especially uncluttered hookup for cable TV subscribers. Simply lease a CableCARD from your service provider and you can watch all your channels — including scrambled programs — without using a cable box. The subscription-free TV Guide Daily® on-screen guide provides an informative color-coded grid that lists over-the-air and cable programs in your area for the next 24 hours.

Smooth120Hz™ ensures blur-free images for sports, movies, and video games
Smooth, smear-free motion has been a challenge for LCD TVs, especially when viewing fast-action material like sports and video games. Mitsubishi's Smooth120Hz anti-blur technology doubles the traditional LCD display rate for clearer, more natural motion. To maintain the smooth, cinematic look of film-based content, Film Motion "anti-judder" processing eliminates the stuttery motion often seen during slow camera pans.

Plenty of high-def inputs, and the smarts to control your other components
The LT-52149's future-ready "jack pack" emphasizes high-def signals, with four 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs for connecting the latest Blu-ray players, HD DVRs, and video game consoles. This TV also features Mitsubishi's NetCommand® control system, which lets you operate almost any brand of cable or satellite TV set-top box, plus other components, using only the TV's remote.

Overview: The Mitsubishi UltraThin Frame 149 Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV gives you more picture and sound in less space. The television offers a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 with upscaling for all your connected sources. The TV's new dimension in sound comes from an integrated sound projector comprised of a 16-speaker array, giving you surround sound without bulky receivers or additional speakers. The Mitsubishi 149 Series LCD television is digital cable ready; simply insert a cable card and view all of your favorite programming, accessible via TV Guide Daily.

Thin Frame Design: The LT-52149 Mitsubishi LCD TVs incorporates a super thin frame that delivers more picture in a smaller space than ever before. The thin high-gloss black frame accents the television's sleek, low profile, modern design.

NTSC/ATSC/QAM Tuners: The TV is equipped with an analog NTSC tuner, a digital ATSC/8VSB tuner, and a digital QAM tuner for receiving unscrambled digital cable channels. You do not need to connect an external HDTV set-top box in order to receive High-Definition programming.

CableCard: The television features a CableCard slot. The CableCard system allows the TV to receive, decode, and unscramble the premium digital channels included in your cable TV subscription without the us of a cable box. The system is unidirectional, meaning that certain digital cable service, such as requests for video-on-demand and pay-per-view programs, a cable operator's enhanced program guide, and data-enhanced television service may require use of a set-top box instead.

Note: Your Cable provider must support the CableCard system to use this function. CableCard requires the TV's Fast Power On setting.

10-Bit, 1080p High-Definition LCD Display: The Mitsubishi LT-52149 LCD Flat Panel HDTV features a 10-bit, full 1920 x 1080 LCD panel so you get a true 1080p picture without any scaling from a 1080p source. All non-1080p images input into the television will be up-converted and also displayed at 1080p. The television's four HDMI inputs will accept video signals from 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p (24Hz, 30Hz, and 60Hz) sources; while its three HD component video inputs will accept video signals from 480i 480p, 720p, and 1080i sources.

Tru1080p Processing: Mitsubishi's Tru1080p Processing maintains 1080p high definition signals as 1080p from beginning to end of the video signal. All 1080p HDMI, DV-I (with adapter) and 1080p broadcasts signals are passed through with no down conversions. This advanced 1080p technology for HDTV viewing delivers over 2- million pixels to you on-screen for a full and true 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Plush 1080p: Mitsubishi developed the Plush 1080p 12-bit processing technology so that everything you watch looks better on the 1080p HDTV. It reformats 720p and 1080i HDTV signals in order to fill the TV's native resolution 1080p screen with a sharp, clear picture. Plush 1080p scales and converts the picture precisely with minimal side effects, achieving greater detail and clarity.

Smooth 120Hz: Smooth 120Hz is a unique Mitsubishi technology in the this1080p LCD TV which eliminates motion blur, especially in fast moving action scenes. This feature displays more fluid, natural and smoother fast moving images, free from motion blur. Removing motion blur and improving motion performance, fast motion scenes are now much smoother and natural.

4D Video Noise Reduction: Mitsubishi's exclusive 4D Video Noise Reduction system used advanced algorithms to better identify video noise from fine detail and correct the signal rather that distort it. The advanced 4D Video Noise Reduction system corrects the image in four dimensions - horizontally, vertical, within each frame and across multiple frames to provide and image that is crystal clear and very detailed.

6-Color Processor: Mitsubishi's 6-Color Processor produces brighter colors, a wider range of colors and white whites.

Full Spectrum Color: Mitsubishi's Full Spectrum Color results in 25% more color than standard LCD. Reds and yellows become brighter and more vivid, and there are more available shades of Green, Cyan, and Blue. Mitsubishi uses a wider range of phosphors in its backlight system for a richer, fuller spectrum of colors. To fully utilize this added color range, Mitsubishi also recalibrated its color and brightness settings. The resulting picture quality adds realism to yellow sunlight, blue skies and crimson sunsets.

PerfectColor: PerfectColor is another exclusive Mitsubishi feature that gives you the ability to adjust the intensity of six separate colors (Magenta, Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue) independently of each other and separately for every input. PerfectColor is a full color matrix, much more powerful than a conventional color intensity control with only red versus green color balance.

xvColor System: x.v.Color is the new standard in high definition color. The television's x.v.Color Wide Color Palette enables up to 80% more color than standard HDTV for increased realism and vivid, natural colors when connected to an x.v.Color enabled video source.

Note: Currently there are no video sources providing x.v.Color content.

Deep Color Technology: Deep Color creates smooth transitions between different shades and eliminates color bands and complements the x.v.Color system's wide color pallet. Enabled by HDMI 1.3, Deep Color goes beyond previous 8-bit HDTV.

The Good and The Bad

Written By Tech-man, New Mexico on Monday, December 29, 2008

Ok I had a 5 page review just highlighting the basic issues but this review only lets you have 1500 characters. So here is the super short review.

TV-Guide: No features, no search, reminders, color etc. Extremely slow.

Picture: Will go to blue screen if you lose signal for more than 2 seconds. Sometimes requiring the TV to be turned off to get the picture back.

Channel Programming: EXTREMELY SLOW and you can ONLY tune programmed in channels. (i.e. if you did not program in channel 5 you can not tune channel 5 with the remote you have to have it in the program list)

Menu: EXTREMELY SLOW.

Picture Format: Blanks the Video and Mutes the audio for 2 seconds to change between format. EXTREMELY annoying.

Remote: Only works head-on you can not use it from an angle.

I wish I could have given the complete review.
Thanks!
