About the Boom Mat 6-3/4" Speaker Baffles

Buck Pomerantz
Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Product Research

Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

Q
Has anybody used these on a motorcycle? Preferably on a road glide front fairing, if so did it improve the sound quality? Or hurt it?

A
Yes it improves the sound. It also depends on your speakers. On some speakers you may have to vent it. Start small like a dime and work your way up to a half dollar size.

Q
If I put a kicker 6.75" sub in door panel will these do an adequate job of creating a sealed enclosure for them?

A
They actually decrease bass response. They protect the back of the speakers but they also eliminate reflected sound waves behind the speaker, which virtually cuts bass in half. You can either fabricate a sealed fiberglass enclosure that will fir behind them in the door, or just install them in the door's speaker opening with sound deadening material between the door and the Kicker's mounting ring.

Q
If these are completely sealed will it cause a reduction in the sound output of the speakers?

A
It will. Cut a half dollar size hole in the bottom of them. It still keeps it protected and sounds great. Thanks

Q
Will the magnet of my 6.75 Rockford Fosgate component p1675-s fit in these 3 inch depth baffles?

I installed those same speakers in boom matts and the sound from the speakers was DEAD FLAT and no bass. If you have to install them for protection cut holes in the bottom. Those speakers need to be mounted in free air unbaffled. I could not believe how they degraded the sound especially the bass. Thought I was going to have to buy a subamp but I thought I would try removing the boom matts to see what difference it would make. WOW, what an improvement in sound.

If I remember the baffles are plyable and slightly stretchable. I didn't have a problem installing the speaker. I also don't remember the size speaker as this install was done on my last car.

eddie  Nov 17, 2015

Yes. Should be no problem
