About the Boom Mat 6"x9" Speaker Baffles

Buck Pomerantz
Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

Q
I have a 2014 Ram quad cab truck. The speakers rattle the doors terribly bad on all four doors. I brought it back to the dealership to see if there was something wrong. The techs at the dealership said thats the way it is and if I wanted to improve it, they recommended installing sound deadening material. I'm leasing the truck and I don't want to spend the time and money on that. Is there anything else you would recommend for me to do? Would speaker baffles be another choice to stop the rattling? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The baffles will isolate the sound waves from the back of the door panel and thus cut down on vibration, but they are primarily used to improve the sound quality by limiting the reflective / out-of-phase sound waves that sometimes emanate from the back of the speakers into the cabin. All cars are not build equal, so the benefit is on a case by case.

Hi Jeff. Sorry but I know if these baffles will help lessen your door rattle. I installed these thinking that it would help enhance the bass sound. Unfortunately it did just the opposite. In short, the speaker couldn't breathe, hence the bass output was very weak. The only benefit I realized was that it can protect your door speakers from getting wet if there's a leak in your door. To help make it sound better, I had to cut off the lower half of the baffle so that the speaker can breathe and perform as intended. Opening up the lower half will still protect the speaker from water dripping down on to the speaker. If you have the time, I'd give it a try.

The baffles will help with the rattling but won't remove all of it, and may change your sound quality.

It mite,,,but sounds like u need that mat to go behind yur speakers,,I think baffles is for water proofing.

I don't think these would help your problem. I bought these and wish to take them out. Just have to find the time to remove all the door panels. These ruined the bass response to the speakers I put in, the factory was actually better. I would ask other truck owners if they have the same problem. I worked for Dodge and don't ever remember the speakers rattling the doors..

In my opinion the baffles are only good for protecting the backside of speakers from moisture. They might help a very tiny bit for the rattles, but it sounds like the entire door needs a sheet of dynamat, or each door may have a rod, cable ect. that needs insulated. I would take door panel off to see if that was the case

Q
Has anyone installed these baffles in the 6 by 9 openings in the front and rear doors of a 2015 Dodge Ram Crew Cab? How did they work? Any modifications needed?

they work great to protect speakers from water dripping down, but they do cut bass response. I suggest cutting the bottom half off and leave a shroud over the speakers.

Q
Would Anyone know if these would fit in the door of a 2016 RAM 1500 Crew Cab? I know that the there are 4x 6x9's in total, one in each door, I hear 6x9's with a mounting depth of 3&1/4" bottom out in the front on the window mechanism, but in the back it's wide open, does anyone know?

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your specific vehicle. They will be able to pull up research on your Ram model to help determine if the baffles will work properly.
