Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Accessories Our take on the XM Direct Satellite Radio Package by Matt Freeman If you're looking to get XM Satellite Radio in your car, and if you have an XM-ready Alpine stereo, this package is for you. It features the XM Direct radio, an XM antenna, and the adapter cable you'll need to connect the radio to your Alpine stereo. The XM Direct radio is super-compact, so it will fit neatly in a convenient spot under the passenger seat is the most typical location. The antenna mounts snugly on the roof of your vehicle, thanks to its strong magnetic base. The adapter cable plugs right into your Alpine stereo's CD changer port. Once the XM Direct radio is connected, you can use your Alpine stereo to select channels (by category or station number) and view station information (artist, album title, track title, channel number, or channel name) on its readout. The XM Direct radio is a universal application. It also works with compatible Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Panasonic stereos. Should you ever switch the brand of your stereo, you'll only have to buy a new adapter cable (for the appropriate brand), rather than replacing the XM Direct radio entirely. You must have a subscription to XM in order to tune in the digital satellite radio signal. Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. I was a little worried about running the Antenna wire through the whole car, but it really wasn't too bad. I found a spot under the dash to velcro the xm direct radio and Alpine adapter.Easy install and the XM is so nice with no more SkyFi cables hanging around my car.Sounds awesome too.Mark 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. Works fine with my Alpine CDA-7894 and 1999 Tahoe. System picked it right up, accessed through Radio "Band" selector (FM1, FM2, XM1, XM2, AM).I chose to install behind Glove Compartment and off to the sides (Adapter on Left and XM Direct Box on Right).Ran Antenna cable in through a small hole I cut into the bottom of the Passenger door's Wiring boot and in through existing hole behind kick panel.Connected easily to Head unit, supplied cables also power unit from Stereo. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. Thanks Crutchfield for creating a package. It took the guess work out of what to buy. Connected up to a CDA 9851 plus the KCA 420. Once connected the head unit easily found the XM radio and the IPOD. I have no noise issues both sound great along with the tuner and CD. Only one nit, the wires between the units are long and thick. Stuffing the 3 modules into a small space for a sports car is a challenge. Also my Trunk is fiberglass so I had to put the attenna on the fender. A little bit more drop out than with my car that has a metal trunk.Rob 2 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 Bad Info Written By Mr Matt, San Diego on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 This unit can pass thru AI-Net signals. If you have the KCA-420i IPOD unit and want to add XM, you do not need to add the KCA-410c. This unit will connect to your Alpine SAT Ready deck and then your KCA-420i will connect to it. I found this out after pounding Alpine and TERK for a straight answer on this issue. I still ordered it from Crutchfield, but I let the Sales Rep know that his info on this product was false. The only problem that I have is with using the extra pass through. I have the Alpine KCM-122B Auxiliary Cable running from the pass through to my Ipod. When I switch over to my AUX input on the head unit I get a lot of interferience, and the ipod playback sounds horrible. Has anyone else had the same problem? Other than the aux problems, I would recommend this item. Was this review helpful?
