Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
The release of seasons 1 and 2 of Game of Thrones in Dolby ATMOS was the straw that broke the camel's back. Four more speakers (ceiling) meant more wire to connect them and it was difficult for me to decide what to use. Since the number of ATMOS titles is still pretty low, I could not justify the higher cost of the solid LGC conductors I wanted to use. I bought some 16AWG OFHC speaker cable for really cheap and intended to double it up for 13AWG. It arrived and was a great value but I still wanted to use the long grain Copper from AudioQuest that I have relied on for two decades. With the AudioQuest FLX-16/4, I get 13AWG conductors (pairing up wires) in a single cable, LGC Copper, and the 500ft spool at Crutchfield was the cheapest price I could find. With the increased price of metals lately, $1.04/ft is a decent price for what you get. Maybe the cheaper wire sounds the same but cutting up drywall to swap conductors is not an option so I will go with what has worked for me in the past. It will be awhile before I can enjoy the sound of dragons above my head but I have something to look forward to.
Pros: The higher purity Copper that AudioQuest has used for several decades but offered at a much lower price than Type 4. 13AWG x 2 conductors for the longer, in-wall cable lengths typical for surround sound setup.
Cons: Still relatively expensive for wires that you normally leave behind if you move but not a con if it helps sell your house.
