About the AudioQuest Cinnamon

Steve Kindig

Who'd have guessed that USB cables can sound different?

During AudioQuest's recent visit, they showed us their line of USB cables. These cables definitely have a high-quality look and feel, but we wondered how noticeable any sonic improvements would be. The proof was in the listening. In a direct comparison to a free-in-the-box USB cable, the AQ cable delivered greater bass extension, along with more bass and mid-bass detail. The soundstage opened up and vocals sounded more natural.

AudioQuest Cinnamon USB cross-section diagram

A high-quality USB cable is a great way to connect your desktop or laptop computer to a high-end audio digital-to-analog converter. For USB audio, as with all digital audio signals, it's critical to maintain accurate timing. This cable can reduce the timing errors or "jitter" that often makes digital music sound less clear and rich and three-dimensional.

Paying attention to every detail

AudioQuest Cinnamon is the USB cable for music lovers. It's carefully engineered, made with top-notch materials, and tested through hours and hours of listening. One way AQ improves the audio performance of its digital cables is by adding a thin layer of silver plating to the solid copper wires. When it comes to conducting signals, silver is the best-performing metal — better than either copper or gold. Cinnamon's silver-plated conductors are designed to reveal more high-frequency detail.

If you enjoy listening to digital music files on a high-end audio system, you'll be surprised at the difference AQ's USB cables can make.

Q
will this cable go fron sony 4k blue ray to emm labs dac da2?

A
Not sure which Sony 4K Blu ray you have, but it looks like the Sony 4k ultra onl;y has HDMI connections. This cable will work with USB 2.0 compatible units. A-plug to B-plug types. You could use the digital Co-axial cable for sound as both the Emm, and Sony have this connection.

Oops, I need to clarify - I didn't notice the 1.5m length was selected. The longer 3m / 10ft has a smooth cover, the shorter cables have a woven cover.
mark  Jun 23, 2018
A
No, it is a smooth, not woven cover.

Q
The only difference I see between these two cables is one is 1.25% silver plated and the other is 5.0% silver plated. I'm sorry, but I do not hear a difference in the sound. What am I suppose to hear for twice the cost of these two cables?

Usually it's the overall improvements throughout your setup added together, that you really start hearing the difference.

Harry, Sound waves travel faster and cleaner on silver than they do on copper. USB cables with higher percentage silver conductors are able to send the sound waves at higher speeds thus helping to eliminate strand-interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Deciding which USB to buy really depends on the type of setup you have as well as how picky you are with your music. I'm running an Audioquest Cinnamon-which has the 1.25% silver conductors-through a Peachtree Audio Decco65. The Decco65 has a built in ESS Sabre 9023 DAC (digital to analog converter), which, when combined with the Cinnamon USB, really makes my digital music sound warm and smooth. While you do want to run a good quality USB, I honestly don't think you'll need the more expensive 5.0% cable. Unless you're an extreme audiophile with a ridiculously expensive system, you probably won't be able to tell any difference. Stick with the Cinnamon and use the extra cash to buy some new music. :)

I can here the difference , but that's not the reason i upgraded to the Big Surs . I have Carver equipment and am Tri - Amping into Monitor Gold GR 60's . With close to a thousand watts going into one speaker DISTORTION really becomes an issue . I can turn my volume up much more and not blow my speakers !!!!!!!! Couldn't do that with my old top of the line Monster Cables .

I have not had the opportunity to listen to two different AudioQuest cables. I just know that my Cinnamon USB cable sounds much better than a common USB cable that I briefly used (one that usually connects my computer and printer) while waiting for the AudioQuest to arrive.
