Overview

Our take on the AudioQuest Forest OptiLink

Use AudioQuest's Forest Toslink-to-mini-optical cable to ensure accurate transfer of digital audio signals from your computer's mini-optical output to the full-sized Toslink optical input on your A/V receiver or DAC. This cable is a smart choice for use with the 3.5mm dual-purpose headphone jack found on MacBook® and iMac® models. The core of the Forest is a finely polished, low-distortion polymer fiber conductor that minimizes signal loss and jitter (time-based distortion).

This is my first foray into optical (Toslink) cables. As a connection between an iMac and Audioengine HD6's, this cable brings the digital signal to stellar heights, compared to USB. It delivers quiet, 'black' backdrop to music that is rendered in its purist form to the listener. I am ecstatic!

Way Better than Blue Jeans

Omar from Los Angeles on 4/28/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this cable to play FLAC from my Macbook Pro, onto a Cambridge Audio receiver, which in turn runs a pair of Bowers & Wiklins 686 S2s. Mostly Society of Sound classical. I needed it long enough to sit a distance away to enjoy the music and still be able to work on the computer. This cable works wonderfully, unlike their cheaper denim competitor which required me to hold the cable in place with my hand behind the receiver. It's worth paying this much more since the cheaper options don't work at all. Well made, looks good, and always works.

Pros: It always works; looks good; well made; way better than it's cheaper competitors.

Cons: Cost

Solid Buy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought this cable, it works way better than the audio cord that came with the box. I am not real techie when it comes to TV accessories, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Pros: Great sound, no delay in what you see on the TV and hear from the speakers now.

Cons:

Good Cable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good quality Audio Quest cable (bottom of the line AQ). So - not an excessive price for what you get. Works fine to connect Macbook Pro to DAC via optical connections. Just right - would recommend / buy it again.

Pros: Good quality connectors. Good sound

Cons: None.

Well built cable

cawgijoe from Centreville,VA on 1/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a well built cable just like all Audioquest cables. What can I say, it does the job. The only real downside is cost. It should last for a long while though.

Pros: Well built. Does the job.

Cons: Price.

Seems fine

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I need to connect an Apple Airport express to my system. Bryce recommended this cable. [ Michael  Jan 19, 2016 ]
Because I got a Blue Jean cable one and it did not work, it was poorly built and would not transmit sound continuously, it was more expensive to return and pay for shipping than what the refund would have been. I already had a shorter audioquest optical forest and it has always worked great. [ Omar  Apr 15, 2016 ]

1 question already asked

Hi, The only optical cables I've seen are either a male optical end or male toslink end like the cable shown in the picture. I don't have experience with a female optical end, but the technical folks at Crutchfield can answer that question for sure. Enjoy your music, RCB [ Richard  Dec 28, 2015 ]
