About the AudioQuest Forest

Steve Kindig

Designed by — and for — music lovers

AudioQuest paid us a visit recently and let us check out their new line of USB cables. These cables definitely have a high-quality look and feel, but we wondered how noticeable any sonic improvements would be. The proof was in the listening. In a side-by-side comparison against a free-in-the-box USB cable, the AQ cable delivered greater bass extension, along with more bass and mid-bass detail. The soundstage opened up and vocals sounded more natural.

AudioQuest Forest

A high-quality USB cable is a great way to connect your desktop or laptop computer to a high-end audio digital-to-analog converter. For USB audio, as with all digital audio signals, it's critical to maintain accurate timing. This cable can reduce the timing errors or "jitter" that often makes digital music sound less clear and rich and three-dimensional.

Paying attention to every detail

The Forest is AQ's lowest-priced USB cable, but it's made to AudioQuest's exacting standards. It's carefully engineered, made with top-notch materials, and tested through hours of listening. Triple shielding reduces external electronic noise and interference, while gold-plated connectors ensure solid, corrosion-free contact.

If you connect a Forest cable to your printer, will you see crisper text? Probably not. But if you enjoy listening to digital music files on a high-quality audio system, you'll be surprised at the difference AQ's USB cables can make.

Customer Q&A

Q
What is the difference between using a regular printer cable and this cable same looking but much more expensive cable?

A
It depends...the quality of cables varies as does the quality of the source to speakers. As any system with components, it is only as good as the weakest link. Poor quality cables can cause jitter and reduce the quality of the sound. Try to balance your components; a free printer cable for an expensive system is as poor a recommendation as a $60 cable for a portable, all in one speaker.

Terry, I use the AudioQuest Forest cable to connect my windows pc to a peachtree DAC. It certainly made an improvement in sound quality. I had issues with finding the DAC but this was due to corruption of the DAC software; the Peachtree people helped with this. The DAC software needed to be reinstalled. This was prior to my puchase of Forest cable and the problem was already resolved. I have no experience with MACs. Bob

Unless the cable you are using is intermittent, I don't see the cable as being the problem. I'm running my music files through a PC. I needed to download the oppo driver on to the PC to get started. That being said, in my opinion, the Audio Quest is a good quality cable.

I have never seen my DAC come up on screen. I need to go into the Audio MIDI setup to connect to it.

This cable will assure you that it's a good quality cable. Your Mac and oppo may be having communication issues. I would contact OPPO their customer service is awesome.
