About the AudioQuest Hawk Eye

Ralph Graves

Enjoy the best sound your high-end audio gear has to offer

AudioQuest designed their Hawk Eye digital coaxial cable to deliver the best possible signal from your high-performance CD player, digital-to-analog converter, or signal processor. A solid 24-gauge silver conductor gives you optimal signal transfer, while two layers of hard cell foam insulation effectively eliminate interference.

Dielectric-Bias System for consistently excellent performance

Most higher-end cables require a break-in period before they perform their best. A charge builds up in the insulation through continual use, reducing the amount of electronic noise the cable produces. This charge can dissipate when the cable's not in use, giving you less than optimal performance until it builds up again.

AudioQuest's Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) eliminates this break-in period. A small battery pack attached to the cable polarizes the insulation with a 48-volt charge, giving you clear, expressive sound from your system every time you turn it on. This also helps prevent the time delay that can create jitter — especially important with digital audio signals.

RFI and EMI shielding

Radio frequency interference (RFI) can introduce unwanted noise, and the Hawk Eye includes metal and carbon-loaded synthetic shielding to virtually eliminate this threat. A silver-plated copper shield and an additional layer of copper foil effectively block detail-robbing electro-magnetic interference (EMI).

High-quality connectors eliminate the weakest link

This cable features silver-plated RCA connectors, fastened by cold welding — a process that uses high pressure and silver paste to minimize signal loss. By contrast, solder tends to impede the signal, and heating the silver can negatively affect its conductivity.

Product Research

Features:

Solid Perfect-Surface Silver: The AudioQuest CinemaQuest Hawk Eye digital coaxial (75-ohm, S/P-DIF) cable features a 100% PSS silver center conductor, silver-plated and conductive PVC shields and welded OCC RCA plugs for optimum signal transfer.

Dielectric-Bias System: All insulation slows down the signal on
the conductor inside. When insulation is un-biased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS (Dielectric-Bias System) creates a strong stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS pack is connected to the input RCA terminal of the cable and it four "AAA" batteries will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.

Noise-Dissipation System: AudioQuest's Noise-Dissipation System features metal and carbon-loaded synthetics that prevent most RF interference from reaching your equipment's ground-plane.

Hard-Cell Foam: Rigid micro-cellular high-density PE foam insures stable impedance and minimum reflection-induced jitter. Once DBS is attached (for 2 weeks), the normal limitations of un-biased Hard-Cell Foam are eliminated.

Cold-Weld System: The Hawk Eye cable's cold-weld plug design enables a perfect heat-free connection between cable and plug.

Directional Arrows: When using the Hawk Eye cable for digital audio, please be sure to observe the directional arrows (input or output arrow on each connector). Video is not sensitive to directionality.
