AudioQuest's SUB-1 cable delivers clean, clear bass to your high-performance powered subwoofer. This triple-balanced cable features three identical conductors for clean signal transfer. Each conductor is a single, unbroken strand of 2.5% silver. Solid conductors eliminate electrical and magnetic interference that can add brittleness to the sound with multi-strand conductor cables.

Air tube insulation and shielding
Each conductor has its own insulating air tube, which prevents information smearing better than foam insulation. An additional layer of shielding virtually eliminates electronic noise, for the cleanest signal possible.

High-quality connectors eliminate the weakest link
The SUB-1 features RCA connectors made of silver-plated copper. Although this same material can sometimes cause high frequencies to sound edgy with full-range analog audio signals, it actually improves bass articulation when used in subwoofer cables. The connectors are fastened by cold welding — a process that uses high pressure and silver paste to minimize signal loss. By contrast, solder tends to impede the signal, and heating the copper conductor can negatively affect its performance.

SUB-1 Cables

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These cables just worked exactly as I had hoped. The bass heard from my subs has a very clear and distinct sound. You can hear every bit of detail. The speakers that I have the used on are the Def Tech Super Towers and they are doing an awesome job. Besides looking very professional.

Pros: Everything about these cables worked well from the fit and finish, to the quality and results of the sound when they are fired up. Glad that I made this choice.

Cons: Nothing to complain about except that they do cost. But then, you do get here what you pay for with these.

Great Sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I compared it to the Sub-X's by AudioQuest and there was a noticeable difference so I returned the Sub-X's and kept these! (Note:The Sub-X's produced good sound too but the Sub-1's were worth the extra money in my opinion)

Pros: Great Sound!

Cons: Price is a little steep, especially when you need 3 of them like I did to connect my Definitive Technology mains and center channel.

Night and Day Difference

Written by: Tom from Rochester NY on December 25, 2012

If I'm objective about it, some (OK many) pricy cables I've bought over the years have been disappointing, with very subtle improvements at best. Not this cable. Bass depth AND clarity with music were obvious right out of the box, compared to the AQ Sub-X cables they replace. I can hear a distinct difference even from other rooms in the house, no boominess whatsoever. Movie effects are much tighter, "quicker" and lifelike, less "fake-sounding rumble".

I'm using these with 2 PSB SubSeries 300 subs. System: NAD T787, NAD M51 DAC, NAD C565 CD, Marantz NA7004 NW player, and PSB Synchrony 2 towers. Stream FLAC via JRiver and ALAC via Airplay.

This cable is a winner, much more than a subtle improvement. Takes my whole system up a notch. Makes everything sound better, especially taking advantage of the clean signals from the M51 DAC. Will be interesting to see if there's a break-in period, and if they get even better!

Pros: Bass depth and clarity. MUCH more natural sound than any prior sub cables I've used (there have been quite a few)

Cons: Bit pricy, but not in the crazy-talk range

This sub cable is a great improvement over a cable I had been using for about 10 years. The bass is a lot more tight and much more tuneful than the old cable. This sub cable was worth the price for me.

Product Research

Sub-1 Series Subwoofer Cable: The AudioQuest CinemaQuest SUB-1 subwoofer cable uses three solid 2.5% Silver conductors inside PE Air Tubes. The solid conductors eliminate any strand-interaction distortion. The PE Air Tubes minimize information smearing caused by any solid or foam insulation. The subwoofer cable uses single-ended (RCA plugs) that are silver-plated and cold-welded to the cable's three conductors to insure optimum performance. The subwoofer cable's 100% coverage shield insures noise-free performance.

Silver-Plated Copper (SPC): Silver-Plated Copper (SPC)  provides superior performance for subwoofer audio frequencies. SPC enhances the articulation and intelligibility of low frequency information from your amplifier to your subwoofer.

Note: Do not use the Sub-1 subwoofer cable as a full range audio cable.

Ground Connections: If you hear noticeable hum in your system after connecting your subwoofer, please attach the Sub-1 cable's ground leads to your audio gear. Some audio equipment have a ground (GND) connection on the back-panel, if not, attach the ground spade lugs to any screw on the equipment chassis of both the source and the subwoofer.
