Experience the difference that high-quality cables can make

The AudioQuest VDM-3 coaxial digital cable handles audio signals from your high-performance CD player digital-to-analog converter or signal processor with minimal distortion and noise. The cable features a solid 24-gauge copper conductor, engineered specifically for the wide frequency bandwidth of digital audio signals.

Solid construction

The conductor's 6.1% silver plating significantly improves high-frequency performance. Hard cell foam insulation surrounds the conductor to minimize distortion. Special shielding made of silver-plated braid and carbon-loaded synthetics virtually eliminates the threat of noise from radio frequency (RF) interference.

Product Research

VDM Series: AudioQuest/CinemaQuest VDM Series cables are designed to minimize
distortion across an extremely wide bandwidth. The 75Ω cable acts like a conduit which has to carry relatively low frequency analog video (Composite, up to 4.2MHz), or super sensitive digital audio (SP/DIF, up to 24.576 MHz), or uncompressed High Definition video (HDTV, up to 750 MHz), or cable TV/broadband (CATV, up to 1 GHz). The VDM series cables are designed to carry all these signals with minimum interference from the cable.

Construction: The VDM-3 cable uses a 6.1% Silver Center Conductor (6.1% SPC) insulated with Hard Cell Foam (HCF). The cable's Nitrogen Injected HCF reduces distortion caused by the insulating material. The combination of Copper and Silver-Plated braid shield provides100% protection coverage and lower distortion. Silver-Plated RCA plugs are professionally attached with superior AudioQuest solder.

Noise-Dissipation System: Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RF interference from reaching your equipment's ground-plane.

Directional Arrows: When using the VDM-3 cable for digital audio, please be sure to observe the directional arrows (input or output arrow on each connector). Video is not sensitive to directionality.

AudioQuest VDM-3

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm replacing old ic's. Many of my old ones were simply too long.

I'm not convinced one ic sounds remarkably better than another, but I do believe in quality. No sense buying decent hardware then skimping on the accessories.

I like what I see, and better yet I like what I hear. Solid connection, perfect length, and under budget.

Pros: Top drawer fit and finish at a reasonable price.

Cons: None so far. Haven't lost a minute of sleep over this purchase.

Good, not Great

Written By Tom, Rochester NY on Tuesday, December 25, 2012

Tried one of these to feed my NAD M51 DAC from a Marantz NA7004 Network Player, streaming FLAC via JRiver and ALAC via Airplay. With just one coax and one optical input on the M51, had played around a bit and decided that my NAD C565 CD player sounded better via optical. So that left coax for the streamer. This cable is well-built, good fit and finish, and passes along a "solid and warm" sound, but it's not as open or airy as I was looking for. I like a wide soundstage with music, seems to bring out the best of my NAD T787 and PSB Synchronies. I wondered if the cable needed substantial break-in time, but it didn't change very much over a few months. Curious, I picked up an AQ VDM-5 to compare, and that cable out-of-the-box brings much more energy to the party, a significant upgrade. I didn't think that the feed TO the M51 would matter all that much, because the M51 does its own thing with the signal anyway, but apparently it does matter. I'm keeping the VDM-3 for use elsewhere, but not in the streaming path -- streaming needs all the help it can get :)

Pros: Warm and full sound. Excellent construction, fit 'n finish. Very snug connections.

Cons: Maybe TOO warm of a sound, if there is such a thing -- i.e., not an open or airy sound -- soundstage is clear but limited.
