About the Boyo VTC424R

Alexander H.

The simpler way to back up

Boyo's VTC424R wireless rear-view camera system is an ideal back-up solution for larger vehicles. You'll gain a respectable view of what's behind you without the hassle of a major wired installation. Boyo uses a universal, practical design so that your new equipment isn't so noticeable. The camera itself is in a bar-style, weather-proof housing that you screw on over your license plate, and the included 4.3" monitor mounts in a convenient spot on your dash or windshield.

Easier installation

Installing a back-up camera system can be a hassle — running a wired video signal through your vehicle's interior and into the dash poses unique challenges. But Boyo takes some of the headache out of the process with this wireless solution. Mount your camera on your license plate and wire it for power, then connect power and ground to the monitor as well. Once they're wirelessly paired, you're ready for reverse.

What a camera

Boyo's wireless zinc metal camera sports an IP67 waterproof rating for life in the elements. A 130º wide-angle view will provide an expansive picture when you're in reverse, and the camera's 0.02 Lux illumination rating means you'll still get a clear picture from dusk until dawn.

Note: You'll have to wire power and ground connections to the monitor and camera. Boyo does not recommend the VTC424R wireless system for RVs or towing.

Features

Wireless Backup Camera System: The BOYO Vision VTC424R Wireless Backup Camera System features an external LCD monitor with a built-in WiFi (2.4GHz) wireless receiver and a bar-type rear view camera with a built-in WiFi wireless transmitter. The wireless camera at the back of your vehicle will send its video signal to the wireless monitor in the front of the vehicle which turns on automatically. Images at the back of your vehicle will then be shown clearly on the monitor's screen. The wireless rear view camera system has a wireless range up to 65'. When your vehicle's reverse gear is engaged, the VTC424R system works automatically.

Note: The Boyo VTC424R is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera system when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

LCD Monitor: The VTC424R's wireless LCD monitor features a 4.3" color display (480 x 272) with adjustable brightness, color, and contrast controls. The 4.3" LCD monitor is equipped with a built-in wireless WiFi (2.4GHz) receiver & external antenna which allows it to receive a wireless video signal from the included wireless backup camera. A removable sun-shade snaps over the LCD monitor to prevent glaring for better visibility. The LCD monitor can swivel left or right, and angle up or down.

Note: Including sun-shade, antenna, and mounting bracket - the LCD monitor measures 4.875" (w) x 6.25" (h) x 3.5" (d).

Bar-Type Camera: The VTC424R's wireless backup camera features a highly sensitive CMOS with approximately 345,600 effective pixels (720 horizontal x 480 vertical) for true color reproduction and clear picture quality. The camera features a wide-angle lens with a 130° viewing angle providing an excellent field of vision behind you in your vehicle and can be angled down. The backup camera is housed in a bar-type bracket that is made from zinc alloy and covered in a black matte finish with a scratch-resistant coating. The camera housing is also waterproof (IP67). The camera features a built-in WiFi (2.4GHz) wireless transmitter which transmits the camera's video signal to the supplied wireless mirror-monitor mounted inside the vehicle.

Note: The backup camera measures 7.625" (w) x 1.125" (h) x 1.0" (d).

Parking Guidelines: The VTC424R provides parking guidelines on the LCD monitor to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also three color-coded (green/yellow/red) horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot.

Note: If you do not need and want to remove the parking guidelines, you can disable this feature in the on-screen menu of the LCD monitor.

Mounting Options: The wireless LCD monitor offers two mounting options. There is a self-adhesive bracket which allows you to mount the monitor to your dashboard. There is also a suction-cup mount which allows you to mount the monitor to your windshield. The wireless bar-type backup camera attaches to your vehicle's existing license plate frame with the supplied hardware.

Wiring: The wireless LCD monitor can be powered by the supplied 12-volt/cigarette-lighter power adapter or hardwired to the vehicle's reverse light wire using the supplied wiring harness. The camera needs to be connected to the vehicle's reverse lights which causes the camera to come on only when the vehicle is in reverse gear. By connecting to your vehicle's reverse light wiring, the VTC424R system works automatically when you place your vehicle into reverse gear.

Hi kendall, I bought one and it would not work on my 2001 GMC Sierra so I sent it back. Sorry I can't be of help to you.

I don't think it needs anything to do a normal set up. I installed it in about an hour and it worked fine.Enter

Are you sure you are reading the instructions correctly?? I have the same unit on my 07 Chev pickup. No card used with mine. It works fine, has for about 1 year.
richard  Dec 12, 2017

The instructions are pitiful and badly translated. I couldn't figure them out. I don't remember anything about a card. All of the equipment you need is in the package. Figuring out how to put it together is another thing. I gave up and took it to my mechanic and let them figure it out. Works well.

Q
Why is the BOYO VTC424R wireless system not recommended for RVs or towing?

A
Well, we have a Ford F250 with a full size cab. I'm finding it difficult to keep the wireless signal, I suppose due to the length of the vehicle and the distance between the camera and the monitor. I'm going to play around with the antenna some to see if that helps the signal at all. If not, I'll have to return the system. I'm sure the distance between the monitor and the camera on a trailer or camper would be completely out of range for the wifi signal.
judith  Jul 05, 2016
A
I'm not sure why it is not recommended but I tried to install one in my 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 and the reception was great but highly intermittent. I believe the problem is that the antenna for the transmitter is in the power wire for the camera and when it is connected to the backup light circuit the steel between the antenna and the video display partially blocks the signal. So I had to return the unit after about Six hours of trying to make the unit work.

Q
What kind of electronic interference can this device cause to other components?
william f.  Jul 03, 2016
1 answer
A
The BOYO Vision VTC424R Wireless Backup Camera System features an external LCD monitor with a built-in WiFi (2.4GHz) wireless receiver and a rear view camera with a built-in WiFi transmitter. If it's within range of multiple other WiFi devices in the same signaling channel, that can introduce interference to the BOYO system. However, if you do experience interference, you have the option to change signal channels using the buttons on the rear panel of the BOYO Vision monitor. I hope that helps.
