About the Boyo VTC464RB

Alexander H.

A seamless system

Boyo's VTC464RB wireless rear-view camera system is an ideal back-up solution for your sedan, SUV, or family van (but not for trucks or trailers). You'll gain the benefit of a 6"-wide reverse view without the hassle of a major wired installation. Best of all, Boyo uses a universal, practical design so that your new equipment isn't so noticeable. The camera itself is housed in a bar-style, weather-proof housing that you screw on over your license plate. The monitor features adjustable clips that let you secure it over your existing rear-view mirror, a natural place to look when you're in reverse.

You can always count on the VTC464RB system to give you a clear view of what's behind you, day or night.

Wireless makes installation easier

Installing a back-up camera system can be a hassle -- running a wired video signal through your vehicle's interior and into the dash poses unique challenges. But Boyo takes some of the headache out of the process with this wireless solution. You'll have your choice of powering the rear-view mirror monitor via an included 12-volt power plug or hard wiring it. Mount your camera on your license plate and wire it for power as well. Once they're wirelessly paired, you're ready for reverse.

The camera

Boyo's wireless zinc metal camera sports an IP67 waterproof rating for life in the elements. A 120º horizontal view will provide an expansive picture when you're in reverse, and the camera's 0.01 Lux illumination rating means you'll still get a clear picture from dusk until dawn.

The monitor

Boyo gives you a 6" monitor built into a large, fully functioning rear view mirror. Easily accessible buttons built into the front of the mirror give you access to options like selectable parking lines, reverse video image, and contrast and brightness adjustment.

Note: You'll have to wire power and ground connections to the mirror and camera. Boyo does not recommend the VTC464RB wireless system for RVs or towing.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you.

Features

Wireless Rear View Camera System: The BOYO Vision VTC464RB Wireless Rear View Camera System features a 6" color display monitor that also acts as your rear view mirror with a built-in WiFi (2.4GHz) wireless receiver and a bar-type rear view camera with a built-in WiFi wireless transmitter. The wireless camera at the back of your vehicle will send its video signal to the wireless monitor in the front of the vehicle which turns on automatically. Images at the back of your vehicle will then be shown clearly on the monitor's screen. The wireless rear view camera system has a wireless range up to 25'. When your vehicle's reverse gear is engaged, the VTC464RB system works automatically.

Notes:
  • The Boyo VTC464RB is a recommended wireless solution for SUVs, Crossovers, Pickup Trucks, Sedans, Coupes, & Minivans; but not for RVs, Tractor-Trailers, Dump Trucks, Trucks with trailers, and other large vehicles.
  • The Boyo VTC464RB is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera system when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Rear View Mirror-Monitor: The VTC464RB's wireless monitor features a 6" color display (800 x 480) with adjustable brightness, contrast, and color controls. The 6" monitor is equipped with a built-in wireless WiFi (2.4GHz) receiver which allows it to receive a wireless video signal from the included wireless rear view camera. The monitor clips over your existing rear-view mirror and will act as a rear view monitor as well as a rear view mirror. In addition to the rear view image, the mirror-monitor also displays parking guidelines to assist you when backing up into a parking space.

Note: The mirror-monitor measures 10.4375" (w) x 4.125" (h) x 1.625" (d).

Bar-Type Camera: The VTC464RB's wireless rear view camera features a highly sensitive CMOS with approximately 345,600 effective pixels (720 horizontal x 480 vertical) for true color reproduction and clear picture quality. The camera features a wide-angle lens with a 120 to 150-degree viewing angle providing an excellent field of vision behind you in your vehicle and can be angled down. The rear view camera is housed in a bar-type bracket that is made from zinc alloy and covered in a black matte finish with a scratch-resistant coating. The camera housing is also waterproof (IP67). The camera features a built-in WiFi (2.4GHz) wireless transmitter which transmits the camera's video signal to the supplied wireless mirror-monitor mounted inside the vehicle.

Note: The rear-view camera measures 7.625" (w) x 1.125" (h) x 1.0" (d).

Mounting Options: The wireless 6" display monitor clips over your rear view mirror inside your vehicle. The wireless bar-type rear view camera attaches to your vehicle's existing license plate frame with the supplied hardware.

Wiring: The wireless mirror-monitor can be powered by the supplied 12-volt/cigarette-lighter power adapter or hardwired to the vehicle's reverse light wire using the supplied wiring harness. The camera needs to be connected to the vehicle's reverse lights which causes the camera to come on only when the vehicle is in reverse gear. By connecting to your vehicle's reverse light wiring, the VTC464RB system works automatically when you place your vehicle into reverse gear.

Q
It appears the it is not wired in any way to the transmission. So, accordingly, one would have to turn it on manually when a view out the rear is needed and then turn it off when not needed. Is that correct?

A
If your back up lights work you should be wired into them. Since these are WiFi your antenna wire should run under the headliner towards the mirror. WiFi is radio signal and other signals can interfer such as CB or even electeral wiring or floresent lamps in parking garage. I got my mirror power from dome light. Im old and cannot see this small type so if I mispelled I apologize.
paul  Sep 11, 2016
A
The Power to the camera is wired into the Backup Light. The Monitor in the mirror is "On" all of the time, but it is just a mirror if there is no power to the camera.
daniel  Sep 11, 2016
A
This rearview mirror needs to be wired to the reverse light.

mitchell  Jun 30, 2015
A
Yes. But it is of seldom use to me as a backup camera. The light coming through the rear window washes out the picture.
robert b.  Jun 30, 2015
A
yes, but the way it is mounted makes it very jittery if there are any bumps in the road. It is not as stable as your actual rear view mirror.
steve  Jun 30, 2015
A
Hi Neil, I never got that far with it. Return it due to bad reception. As noted it's wireless and half the time it would not connect. Unless you have s very small car I would get a wired system. Bigger vehicles have reception problems. Sorry I couldn't help you
