Great radio sound

The radio's large, full-range speaker delivers strong, clear sound, which you can adjust to your liking with the bass and treble controls. For stereo listening, you can plug your favorite headphones into the headphone output, or use the stereo minijack output to connect to your home audio system or a set of powered speakers. You can connect your favorite portable player and use the Field as its speaker through the radio's minijack input.

Home and portable power options

The Field comes with an AC adapter for home use, or use four "D" batteries (available separately) for portable operation. And if you have a 6V adapter, you can keep the radio powered in your car or boat.

AM/FM/SW Tuner: The Eton Field features a built-in AM/FM/SW tuner with a telescoping antenna (up to 12"). You can store up to 50 station presets; 10 presets for each of the 5 bands. A wide/narrow bandwidth selection improves audio fidelity and minimizes noise. The "dial-in-dial" tuning knob lets you select your speed (fast, slow or stop to keep it in a locked position).

Note: There is a threaded "F"-type input for adding an external FM or SW antenna, plus spring-clips connectors for adding an external AM antenna.

RDS: The Eton Field radio features RDS for FM. RDS stands for Radio Data System and it enables FM broadcasters to deliver more than just an analog audio signal, but also to transmit digital data, like the station's call letters, style of music, song title, artist and more.

Aux Input: The Eton Field is fitted with a 3.5mm auxiliary input to connect a non-Bluetooth audio device that features an analog audio or headphone output.

Line Output: The 3.5mm line output can be used to feed audio from the Eton Field to amplified external speakers. The unit's internal speaker will still be functional when a device is connected to the line-output.

Headphone Jack: There is a 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting a setup of headphones. The built-in speaker will mute when a set of headphones are connected.

Alarm Clock + Sleep Timer: The Eton Field features a built-in 12 or 24 hour clock with dual alarms. You can wake up to the radio or a buzzer. A snooze function lets you pause the alarm for five minutes; up to 4x. You can also use the radio's sleep timer which turns the unit off after 5-90 minutes.

Audio Settings: You can adjust the radio's volume up and down, as well as adjust the bass and treble settings.

Power Requirements: The Eton Field operates off of standard household current using the included AC power adapter, or battery power using 4 "D" batteries (not included). The battery strength indicator on the display will let you know when it's time for a change.

Note: If batteries are in the unit and it is powered via its AC adapter, it will automatically switch to battery use if there is an AC power failure.

Carrying Strap: The Eton Field radio includes a built-in hand strap for carrying your radio with ease.

From where will you get a plug to go into the antenna jack on the rear??? Does that jack have 2 elements or just one? Is the jack for a balanced antenna or for a monopole?

For my particular application I simply used the the built in telescoping antenna and found it quite adequate, plus I like it's directional tuning abilities for bringing in distant stations. I have used coaxial cables on other radios without this feature hooking up to a 17" X 9" enclosed antenna, in one case mounting it on a turn table for tuning. I found this to be somewhat of a hassle fabricating, hooking it up and I found no otherwise tuning advantage in this setup. I use my radio for FM stations hooked up to an old power amplifier, several coaxial speakers and a sub woofer in my shop and I get clear crisp reception with it.

I'm not aware of any such adapter. You might try purchasing a small DC/AC converter, I did this for my various pieces of electronic equipment when I was driving my "Big Rig" years ago. But check the manufacture's instruction manual to be on the safe side. The input is six volts, but I'm not sure of the polarity.

An extendable antenna is tucked along the back of the top. It extends to about 46 inches and of course, it swivels.

I don't know if you and I are talking the same thing when you say "external antenna". Do you mean the antenna that pulls up-yes it has a 4 -5 ft antenna (that is an internal antenna) almost all portable radios have that so I think you are savvy enough to inquire about the antenna that you attach. No those external antenna are not provided but there is a place for an Am Fm and short wave antenna.

The radio does not come with an external antenna. It does come with a single collapsable FM antenna bar which folds and clips down neatly along the upper back edge of the radio. The AM antenna is internal. Both work quite well. I have not used the short wave band. There are sockets on the rear of the radio where you can connect an external 50/75 ohm antenna cable for FM or SW, and a connection for a long-wire antenna for AM, but I have not needed to use these.

I used the directional antenna that is the default system that is really quite good for my fringe reception area, but the unit also has two coaxial female inputs; one for FM and the other for Short Wave. Then I used the earphone outlet, because it retains the tuning function, stepped up to a RCA cord to a mid range amp and a sub woofer. It can now produce some really dramatic classical music in my shop!

My search was for a portable radio with bluetooth. The Eton came up as a result, It does not list bluetooth as a feature. Is it? If not, do you carry a portable radio with bluetooth?
