seven NOAA weather broadcast channels. These broadcasts are found in the public
service frequency band, and include 162.400MHz (Channel 1), 162.425MHz (Channel
2), 162.450MHz (Channel 3), 162.475MHz (Channel 4), 162.500MHz (Channel 5),
162.525MHz (Channel 6), and 162.550MHz (Channel 7).
Weather Alert: The FR1000 can be set to output a beep tone
when NOAA issues a Weather Alert, regardless of what source you're currently
listening to.
GMRS/FRS Radios: The
FR1000 operates as a dual-service 2-way radio, and is certified for use in the
GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and FRS (Family Radio Service).
FCC License Required:
Before operating this radio on channels 1-7 (authorized for GMRS and/or FRS) and
channels 15-22 (authorized for GMRS only), each user must obtain a license from
the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Serious penalties could result for
unlicensed use of GMRS channels. If you operate the radio on channels
8-14 only (authorized for FRS), you do not need to have a license. Note:
The current fee (as of 6/25/08) for a new GMRS license is $85.
Output Power/Range: When
transmitting on a GMRS channel, the power output can be set to high or low; set
to high power for increased range. When transmitting on the FRS only channels
(8-14) the power output is automatically set to low. Range will vary depending
upon terrain and conditions. Buildings and foliage in the path of the signal can
reduce the range of the radio.
22 Channels: The FR1000
two-way radio operates on 22 channels in the UHF/FM frequency band: 7 FRS/GMRS
channels, 7 FRS channels, and 8 GMRS channels. The frequency ranges include:
- Channels 1-7
(FRS/GMRS): 462.5625 MHz through 462.7125 MHz
- Channels 8-14
(FRS): 467.5625 MHz through 467.7125 MHz
- Channels 15-22
(GMRS): 462.5500 MHz through 462.7250 MHz
Privacy Codes: The radio
features 121 privacy codes on each of the 22 channels, giving you 2,662 "sub
channels" on which to communicate. Use one of these privacy codes to reduce
interference from other users on the same channel. If you are using a privacy
code, both radios must be tuned to the same channel and privacy code to
communicate. Each channel will remember the last privacy code you selected.
Battery: The rechargeable Ni-MH battery capacity is 700 mAh at 6
volts DC. It can be recharged by the included AC adapter or the hand crank.
Headphones: On the back of the radio is a 3.5mm (1/8") headphone jack.
The FR1000's tuner is monaural, but sound is output to both the left and right
headphones.
Cell Phone Charger: There is a phone charger output is on the
back of
the radio. Phone specific adapters are available directly from etón. You can
also charge your cell phone using the hand crank.
