About the Etón FRX5
The Eton FRX5 weather alert radio isn't just great for emergency situations, like riding out a storm at home. It's also a great choice for any extended outdoor activity — skiing, camping, rafting, or just spending a day at the beach.
Radio and Weather Alerts
The FRX5 has a built-in digital AM/FM tuner. It can receive all seven NOAA weather bands, so you can monitor changing atmospheric conditions. You can program up to 25 locations into the FRX5 using S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding). You'll receive any warning, watch or advisory information alerts for your area.
Four ways to recharge
At home, you can recharge the FRX5's built-in rechargeable batteries with its AC power adapter. And for times when the power goes out, or you're far from a power source, the built-in hand-cranked dynamo can keep the FRX5 powered up. If it's a sunny day, you can also let the radio's built-in solar panel do the work. And you can even keep the FRX5 operational with three “AAA” batteries (available separately).
Emergency lighting
The FRX5 has a built-in LED flashlight, so when the power goes out, you don't have to search for a light. It also has a red emergency beacon that flashes to alert others to your location. Built into the handle is an adjustable ambient light that illuminates the immediate area with a warm glow.
Power to spare
The FRX5 also has a USB charging port for your smartphone or tablet. You can ensure your phone has enough juice to stay in contact — thanks to the hand-cranked dynamo.

Quad-Power: The Eton FRX5 powers up in four ways - via solar panel, hand crank, built-in rechargeable lithium battery, or three alkaline batteries.

NOAA Weather Band: The FRX5 allows you to select from one of the seven NOAA weather broadcast channels. These broadcasts are found in the public service frequency band, and include 162.400MHz (Channel 1), 162.425MHz (Channel 2), 162.450MHz (Channel 3), 162.475MHz (Channel 4), 162.500MHz (Channel 5), 162.525MHz (Channel 6), and 162.550MHz (Channel 7).
Alerts: When the "Alert" function is on, the radio will automatically broadcast NOAA emergency weather alerts for your area such as hurricanes, tornadoes and severe storms. Plus, the FRX5 also features S.A.M.E. technology (Specific Area Message Encoding) to customize alerts for your specific location. Just enter your S.A.M.E. county code and if there's a warning, watch or advisory you'll see it-with flashing red, orange or green lights-and hear about it, too. You can set up to 25 locations so you'll be safe, wherever you are.
Alarm Clock: The Eton FRX5 features a digital clock with alarm.
USB Charging Port: To charge your smartphone, simply plug it into the FRX5's USB type-A port (5V 2.1A). Power will automatically "dump charge" to your phone, just like plugging into the wall. The FRX5 will fully charge most smartphones once and can also charge tablets.
Built-in Lights: The built-in, top mounted, dimmable ambient light on the top of the FRX5 provides just the right amount of light for the family to still enjoy a relaxing conversation or dinner even while the storm rages outside. You can also shine the unit's bright LED flashlight to find your way around in the dark. You can even use the glow-in-the-dark locator and illuminated buttons when you're in a dark area. And for emergencies, you can flash the unit's red emergency beacon.
Aux Input: There is an 3.5mm auxiliary input for connecting an external portable audio source for playback through the Eton FRX5.
Headphone Jack: There is a 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting a setup of headphones. The built-in speaker will mute when a set of headphones are connected.
