Bring your tunes outdoors and into the light with the Etón Rukus. Not only is it a great wireless portable speaker system, but it's also solar-powered. So the longer it's out soaking up the sun, the longer it plays. The Rukus sports a black and white E Ink® text display that won't wash out in bright sunlight.

Fast charging, long playback

The Rukus can completely recharge its built-in battery in about six hours, depending on available sunlight. Can't wait that long? Its AC adapter will do the job twice as fast (and keep the Rukus powered up and playing at the same time). Speaking of power, the Rukus features a USB charging port so you can recharge your smartphone or other portable — even when the Rukus is running on battery power.

Simple Bluetooth connectivity

It's easy to pair the Rukus with just about any compatible Bluetooth device. So whether your music's on a smartphone, PDA, tablet, laptop or portable player, you can stream audio straight to the system. And remember — you're not limited just to the songs stored on your device. You can enjoy audio from any app or Internet source you can access. MOG, Pandora® Internet radio, Spotify, YouTube — if you can hear it on your player, you'll hear it through this speaker system.

Great sound all around

And the Rukus doesn't skimp on sound quality. Two beefy full-range speakers pump out full, clear sound. Selectable bass boost can give your music some extra oomph if you want it.

Made for travel

The Rukus was designed for convenient portability. Just grab the system by its integrated handle and go. An elastic pouch built into the back securely holds your smartphone or portable player.

Works as advertised. Instructions could be better: seem oversimplified.

Pros: Long run time, easy pairing.

Cons: Low max volume. Not for group listening.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The solar charging capabilities really make this product. Without solar, the battery lasts a long, long time. Don't let the small speakers fool you either. You can turn the Rukus up to "11" and it does not falter.

Pros: Incredible bang for the buck Incredible Sound Battery will never run out when in the sun Can charge your iPhone Everybody should have one of these

Cons: None

Sounds good the only thing every time I power it on I have to plug the adaptor. Is that normal??? Otherwise a lot of good features and I like the solar getting power from the SUN. Color green is a good color too.

Pros: Long battery life battery. Good sound.

Cons: To power on need the adaptor always :(:(:(

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as a gift for my wife. We both are enjoying it very well. It's working perfectly; very easy to link with. We also like the solar recharging, but also use the AC charger when using it indoors. We really like listening to music on our boat without worrying we will run down the boat's battery leaving us; no worries about being stranded on the lake!!

Pros: Wifi works well. Love the solar recharging.

Cons: None I've experienced.

A Truly All-in-one Mobile Sound Solution

Written by Dave Delamere, Copywriter, on 8/9/2012 10:51:00 AM

Almost seeming too good to be true, the Etón Rukus Solar provides an easy sound option that can literally be used anywhere. The two things that I wanted to test were the battery life and sound quality.

To test battery life, I connected the my Android™ smartphone via Bluetooth® and started streaming music. I let the Rukus run for approximately 6 hours without the solar panel charging, and the battery usage was just over half down. That was impressive.

The sound quality was very good. Is it going to provide big concert sound? No, certainly not. It's great as a portable audio option to take to the beach, play on your boat, or listen on the back deck. Think of it as a compact boombox.

I streamed the MOG music service to the Rukus, and just let it do its thing. Oh, and when I set it in the sun for recharging, the Rukus also charged my Android through a charging cable. It's a great all-purpose piece with uses I probably haven't even considered yet.

A great addition to the Etón line

Written by Ralph Graves, Staff Writer - Creative, on 7/5/2012 1:08:00 PM

With the Rukus, I feel like Etón's line of solar-powered speaker systems have come of age.

First, it's Bluetooth-enabled, so I (and any of my friends) can use it with any smartphone, PDA, or tablet. Pairing was pretty simple, too. I held down the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds until the Rukus beeped at me. When it showed up on my smartphone's Bluetooth menu, I selected it and the music started playing right away.

Second, it's made for outdoor use. It uses an E-ink screen, which is important, because it won't wash out in direct sunlight. And for a device that gets recharged by sunlight, that's a good thing. It also has a stretch pouch in the back that's just the right size for a smartphone.

Third, it sounds pretty darned good. And the bass boost really works.
