Ready for some rowdy fun in the sun? So's the Etón Rukus XL. This solar-powered speaker system was made for the great outdoors. Stream music wirelessly via Bluetooth from your compatible smartphone, tablet or other portable device. And remember, you're not limited to the songs stored on your device. Enjoy audio from any app or Internet source you can access. Beats Music™, Pandora® Internet radio, Spotify®, YouTube™ — if you can hear it on your device, you'll hear it through the Rukus XL.
Conveniently store your smartphone in the center compartment.
The Rukus XL delivers about eight hours of continuous operation from its built-in rechargeable batteries. The system can completely recharge in six hours via its flip-up solar panel, depending on available sunlight. Can't wait that long? Its AC adapter will do the job twice as fast (and keep the Rukus XL powered up and playing at the same time). The system's USB charging port lets you recharge your smartphone or other portable — even when the Rukus XL is running on battery power.
When it comes to sound, the Rukus XL doesn't hold back. Two woofers handle the mids and bass, while two tweeters produce clear highs. Four passive bass radiators reinforce the low tones, giving your music a big, full-bodied sound.
The Rukus XL was designed for convenient portability. Just grab the system by its integrated handle in the front and go. The solar panel flips down, facing outward on the back so it can keep charging. There's a built-in storage compartment for your smartphone to keep it safely out of the way. The rubberized frame is water-resistant, so the Rukus XL can keep raising a ruckus rain or shine.
Works great, took it camping and it was a hit. Having the solar panels as well as the ability to charge your phone was great. Definitely worth the money.
This is a perfect on the go sound system that replaces a boombox. It has a powerful sound in a small convenient chassis. It offers long playtime on the rechargeable battery and the Bluetooth connectivity is effortless.
Pros: Good rich volume in a convenient package that fills up an outdoor space; solar charger; rechargeable battery; easy to use and connect with Bluetooth; attractive design.
I had another Eton solar charging speaker that I loved, but, that I broke. To purchase the replacement I saw this larger one and decided to try it. The sound is amazing with much more base and also a compartment to hold and protect your phone at the beach. It also charges the phone off of the solar panel!!! I would highly recommend for beach goers!!!
Pros: Sound, charging capability, portability
I have been eyeing this speaker system for a while to use while riding my horses... I finally ordered it, and it does not disappoint!! I love this speaker system; the sound quality is wonderful, and it works exactly how it is supposed to. I have a JBL flip, (which is not really in the same ball park), and a BOSE portable speaker system, and the ETON is superior to both in sound quality. The solar charging system is perfect for my geographical area, and seems to work great. I use this speaker system outside in a large, (200' x 300') open, riding arena, and I can hear it just fine. Obviously, at the far end of the arena, I can't hear it as well. I'm hoping it holds up to the dusty environment; we'll have to see about that. I would definitely recommend this to others.
Pros: smallish solar great sound great linking
Cons: none so far
Whenever I take my Rukus to the pool everyone has to come and check it out. Several of my friends have purchased one since seeing mine. I have owned both the solar and the XL love them both!!!
Pros: Great sound! It charges my phone and IPOD doesn't even need direct sunlight.
Cons: I like the Rukus Solar display panel better than the XL
I like this your product it does work very well and does charge the device that you need to be charged and the sound does sound good loud and clear
Pros: Very loud and is very small package
Cons: I can charge my iPhone five and iPad
8 Speaker System w/ Bass Boost: The Eton Rukus XL employs eight full-range speaker drivers (two tweeters, two woofers, and four passive radiators) powered by a built-in 22W amplifier. A bass boost function enhances bass output of the system.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Rukus XL offers Bluetooth A2DP connectivity to wirelessly play music from almost any Bluetooth-enabled smart phone, tablet, or computer. With quick one-touch pairing, the Rukus XL can instantly connect to most Bluetooth-enabled devices (not compatible with all Bluetooth devices). You can control basic playback functions (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast Forward/Reverse) from the powered speaker's top-panel controls.
Aux Input: The Eton Rukus XL is fitted with a 3.5mm auxiliary input to connect a non-Bluetooth audio device that features an audio or headphone output.
Rechargeable Battery + Solar Panel: The Rukus XL features an integrated solar panel that generates enough power to play your music all day long. When it gets dark, the internal lithium battery will keep the music going for up to 8 hours. It takes less than 5 hours in direct sunlight to fully charge the Rukus XL's rechargeable battery. You can also use the included AC adapter to power and charge the Rukus XL; takes up to 2.5 hours.
USB Charger: The Eton Rukus XL has a USB type-A output (5V/500mA) to charge most smartphones and other mobile devices.
Portable Design: The Rukus XL is lightweight and has an integrated handle making it easy to carry around. The integrated protective cover & elastic strap securely protects your device during playback, charging, and transport.
Sound is excellent thru Bluetooth for me but I'm using a Samsung. I never needed to use a cord. [ Michael Jun 15, 2014 ]
Joe, I have a lg g2 android phone. I mostly use Pandora thru Bluetooth. My volume on the phone is usually turned up to three quarters and the ruckus near full volume. I listen on my boat with the ruckus two to eight feet away. The sound is clear and loud. I've found that the bluetooth volume is quite a bit louder than through the aux input. Different phones process and amplify sound differently. All I can say is try another phone to try and isolate the issue. [ David Jun 15, 2014 ]
When Indoors, With A Few Obstacles (I.e., Wall, Dresser) About 15-20 Feet. Not Sure When obstacle-Free because I Usually Leave My Phone In The Rukus When Outside. I Hope This Helps! [ ISAIAH H Feb 17, 2014 ]
This depends upon the strength and location of the audio source. [ ROGER L Feb 02, 2014 ]

Thanks for info! Helps me to make my decision [ SanDee Dec 09, 2013 ]
Thanks for the information. We have purchased 4 different speakers that were not loud enough so I wanted to be sure [ SanDee Dec 09, 2013 ]
Definitely loud enough. But please keep in mind the louder you play it, the less time the battery lasts. Also, keep in mind that the volume is also affected by the volume of the source material. The volume range is not narrow, but it is not infinite either. [ DARRYLL Dec 09, 2013 ]
The sound is substantial in about a 30 feet radius, it punches out clear sound. I use it in machine shop setting, it works out great! [ GREGORY A Dec 09, 2013 ]
Absolutely. We bought this specifically for that purpose, and it does that and then some. We are constantly getting asked about this speaker by strangers who can hear our music. It holds a charge for a long time, too and even charges other devices through it's USB port. This speaker is so worth the investment. [ JESSICA Dec 09, 2013 ]
