Enjoy great sound anywhere around your home using just one speaker. The Klipsch AW-500-SM sports a 5" woofer for tight bass and two 1" tweeters for crisp highs. This dual-tweeter design allows it to play both channels of a stereo signal with precision and clarity, making it a great choice for small balconies or other places where installing multiple speakers just isn't practical.

If your prefer, you can also use two '500-SMs for a conventional stereo setup in a larger area. The included bracket allows mounting in a corner, under roof eaves, or in other out-of-the-way locations.

Horn technology for powerful performance
Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area. This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Old drive-in theaters could use these.

Written By Ray J, Deltona, FL. on Saturday, August 09, 2008

Don't get me wrong with two stars, this unit sounds great, but for the price, you are much better off buying seperate Klipsch speakers. If you are taking the trouble to run left and right speaker wires outdoors, which this unit requires, seperate speakers beat this by a mile and then some. I don't care how tiny a balcony or porch you have. Take the small effort to rig two speakers and enjoy a much larger soundstage with more bass. Common sense: Two woofers are better than one and Klipsch uses the same matrix tweeter throughout their outdoor speaker line. With the AW-500's you get the same two tweeters this unit has plus the same IMG five inch woofer TIMES TWO for fifty bucks less at slightly lower efficiency. For fifty bucks more, get the outstanding AW-525's that have bigger woofers and the same efficiency rating. Are you seeing the light now? Sorry Klipsch, I own nothing but your magnificently efficient speakers for over twenty years, but this model needs to be put in a time machine back to 1960's drive-in theaters where that is the only practical application for this.

    Driver Technology

Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Tractrix Horn loaded dome tweeter for a natural, lifelike sound. The Tractrix Horns deliver a 90-degree by 90-degree dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.

Woofers: Each speaker uses a 5" IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) woofer.

    Enclosure Design

Weather-Resistant Cabinet: Klipsch Reference All-Weather loudspeakers are constructed from UV-resistant, glass-reinforced polypropylene, designed to handle the outdoor elements. They can be painted to match any trim or siding color.

Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge, pin connectors, spade connectors, or single banana plugs

    Mounting Options

Mounting Brackets: The included mounting brackets are corrosion resistant powder coated zinc and offer great placement flexibility. They allow you to rotate the speakers almost 180 degrees after they've been mounted, letting you direct the sound to different areas as needed. If the speakers are mounted vertically, the brackets allow them to swivel side to side. If the speakers are mounted horizontally, the brackets allow them to swivel up and down. The speakers' shape makes corner placement easy.
