Features Overview: Klipsch Reference All-Weather loudspeakers are constructed from UV-resistant, glass-reinforced polypropylene, designed to handle the outdoor elements. They can be painted to match any trim or siding color. Woofers: The AW-800-SW uses an 8" IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) woofer. The dual ports are front-firing. Crossover: In addition to the built-in low-pass crossover for this speaker, there is also a high-pass crossover and a set of stereo speaker level outputs to connect a set of full range speakers. The crossover point is fixed at 150 Hz. Mono/Stereo: There is a mono/stereo switch on the back of the speaker. If powered by a mono amp, set to mono and connect the amp to either speaker input. If powered by a stereo amp, set to stereo and connect the amp to both speaker inputs. Mounting Brackets: The included mounting bracket is corrosion resistant powder coated zinc and offers great placement flexibility. You can rotate the speaker almost 180 degrees after they've been mounted, letting you direct the sound as needed. If the speaker is mounted vertically, the bracket allows it to swivel side to side. If the speaker is mounted horizontally, the bracket allows it to swivel up and down. The speaker's shape makes corner placement easy. Binding Posts: The gold-plated binding posts will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge, pin connectors, spade connectors, or single banana plugs. Written By Ray J, Deltona, FL. on Saturday, August 09, 2008 I gave this 4 stars because of the high cost, but the sound is 5 stars! This efficient thumper digs down to 51 hz which means deep commanding bass. Is it worth almost 5 C-notes though? After all, you could instead buy a pair of AW-525's for the same price, which put out some darn good bass (I tried these speakers first and reviewed them). Subwoofers have huge popularity for two good reasons: Their large woofer size approaches absolute bottom in the frequency range. The other HUGE benefit is the crossover! I have the AW-650's which would satisfy 99% of the people's outdoor needs. I wondered how much difference this would add to it. The AW-800 has a crossover point at 150 hz. The lower you go in the frequency range, the more power it takes, as big bass is mostly about moving large quantities of air. The beauty is now my AW-650's are freed up from having to reproduce power-hungry low bass notes. They now put out remarkable midrange and treble quality that will rival your indoor system. If you have the money or just have to have that final push over the cliff, this subwoofer will make any outdoor speakers sound/perform better. Your next cookout/pool party will have your friends blown away by life-like Black Sabbath to Beethoven! 45 out of 48 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
