Features

2-Way Stereo Driver Design: The Klipsch All-Weather Rock speaker (AWR-650-SM) is a two-way, dual channel design using a single high performance bass driver for the low frequencies and a pair of Polymer dome high frequency tweeters for wide, even coverage inside a bass-reflex enclosure with a side-firing port. The Rock speaker features a dual voice coil 6-1/2" polymer woofer and two 3/4" polymer dome tweeters. The speaker's dual tweeter design allows it to play both left and right stereo signals with precision and clarity.

All Weather Enclosure: The Klipsch AWR-650-SM is constructed of durable weather proof materials such as fiberglass enclosure and powered coated aluminum grilles that are UV-resistant. The Rock enclosure houses a durable polymer woofer cone and polymer dome tweeters. This ensures that the rock speaker will look and sound good for years to come regardless of environmental extremes. The Klispch All-Weather Rock speaker is perfect for lawns, gardens, patio, decks or any other place where exposure to the elements makes conventional loudspeaker usage unsuitable.

Speaker Configuration: The AWR-650-SM can be configured as a single two channel speaker, or used in pairs as single channel speakers. The AWR-650-SM is provided with a 4-conductor cable to connect either 1 or 2 audio channels. Each channel on the AWR-650-SM has an 8-ohm impedance when connecting both channels of the speaker. When joining the inputs for a 1 channel connection, the AWR-650-SM becomes a 4-ohm speaker.

Wire Splicing: Unless the AWR-650-SM will be connected to an amplifier/receiver directly using the 3' speaker lead, wire splicing to a separate set of high quality, moisture resistant speaker cable will be required (sold separately). The Rock speaker comes with five wire-nuts to add additional speaker wire.

Placement: Due to its aesthetic design and up-titled orientation, this Rock loudspeaker is designed for low or ground level placement. If a single AWR-650-SM is connected in a two channel configuration it is best to center the speaker on the preferred side for even coverage. To achieve the bets performance from a pair of AWR-650-SMs, place them on the same side of your intended listening area and space them 8 to 20 feet apart. For a higher quality stereo image some degree of toe-in, toward the primary listening area may be required to achieve the desired effect. Some additional Bass will result if you place the speaker in a corner or near a wall.

Securing The Speaker: The Klipsch AWR-650-SM is includes a security eyelet on the underside of the speaker. This permanent eyelet can be used to attach the supplied security cable to the supplied metal stake for added security.

Q
my speakers are about 2 years old and a couple of them have paint chipping off of them. What type of warranty do these have?
dan  Jul 06, 2022
1 answer
A
These speakers have a 5 year warranty but, according to the manual, does not cover cosmetic damage including paint damage.

Q
What receiver with Bluetooth capability do you recommend to power 4 of these speakers? Furthest speaker wire run will be 120' away.

I have 2 channel Yamaha. 2 speakers loud enough

I'd call Crutchfield, they will be able to answer better than me. I will say the speaker itself is awesome, great sound and volume!! Hope that helps
james  Jun 26, 2021
A
Mine are hooked up directly to Sonos.
vicky  Jun 26, 2021
Q
Does anyone have a wiring schematic for these? I want to have a true stereo sound and sort of confused as to how these get wired to do that. Also, I have (2) of the AWR-650s under my over hang and don't know how to efficiently wire them all to my Denon AVR-S740H
charles  Sep 30, 2020
1 answer
A
We do not have wiring diagrams prepared for this but I can tell you the only way the Denon will power these speakers will be by connecting one AW-650 per amp channel on the Denon and using two amp channels for the AWR-650-SM (so you can get both left and right audio into it). If you were hoping to connect all the outdoor speakers to the zone two section on the Denon, then a multichannel amp is needed. We have advisors that you can reach by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can discuss your goals and complete setup to give a personal recommendation on the best matching amp.

Is there a way to make these speakers work with bluetooth?

Not that I'm aware. It connects to the stereo and you can get a Bluetooth for your stereo but the speaker itself has to be connected to the stereo as far as I know. It's a GREAT speaker!
leah  Jul 30, 2020
A
Not as is. I have them (4) and they work great. My receiver powering them has bluetooth.

I have these speakers At floor level on the back wall of a 330 sq. ft. 2nd story desk. . I can broadcast out into my yard (65x120). They do a great job.

I'm not sure exactly we have 5 of them around a large pool area. Highly recommend sound awesome. Worth the money.
greg  Apr 21, 2020
A
With a 60 watt amplifier, I'm able to cover a ~950 sqft area around a pool and patio with plenty of audio.
james a.  Apr 21, 2020
A
I have two of these speakers around my pool and they cover roughly a 35x35 foot area. They are at different ends of the pool area and allow me to have good even coverage
anthony  Apr 21, 2020
A
It depends on the background noise and wind. But generally, my answer would be "less than you think." I would prefer one every 15 feet (or less). So anytime you might be getting 15' away... I would like to have another one for the most seamless sound.
danielle  Apr 21, 2020
Q
What would be the best way to use impedance volume control for a set of these speakers if they are out on a patio? Asking since these can be used as 1 channel or 2 channel. Would like to be able to control closer to the speaker rather than at the amp. Thanks.

A
Those volume controls work with stereo (2 channel) audio and can be set to work with lower impedances. You truly have your choice on how to use them. If you are not sure what you should do for your location, I suggest contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss your goals to get a personal recommendation. A
I put the Niles WVC100E volume control in-line with my AWR-650-SM to control both channels (left and right). I use a Cambridge amp with Chromecast Audio as the input, and I set the output of the amp to about 60%. I use the Niles control out on the patio to control the volume. I used outdoor-rated 14 AWG, and it was a little tough to get the wires routed without pinching, but with a little work it fits just fine. Setup works like a champ!

Q
I have two of these wired as single 4ohm speakers. I am looking to upgrade to a sonos amp as I start my sonos connect but the power may be pushing the limits with the 4 ohms. Would you recommend this as a good setup?
brian  Apr 09, 2019
2 answers
A
Yes the Sonos amp is stable down to 4 ohms and capable of powering up to 4 speakers - especially super efficient ones like those Klipsch. I think the Sonos Amp would be a fantastic addition to your Sonos system https://bit.ly/2XqV9Kg
casey  Apr 19, 2019 (Staff)
A
According to Sonos, their amps will handle a 4 ohm load.
charles  Apr 19, 2019
Q
What would be a good speaker wire to use with this? I plan on burying under ground in a conduit. And will run no more than 100' I'm looking to purchase wire locally and getting the wiring ready for my speaker purchase.
don  Mar 07, 2019
3 answers
A
As long as it's being run in conduit, standard speaker wire should be fine.
charles  Mar 08, 2019
A
I used direct burial 12/2 low voltage lighting wire. 12 ga. So you won't lose much power with the 100' run. Saves you from buying conduit.
jason  Mar 08, 2019
A
14 gauge direct burial is what I use. 14/4 to the first speaker and then 14/2 to the next. Makes getting left and right channels a little easier. Make sure to use weatherproof wirenuts or connections!!

Q
Do you have to plug it into an electrical source to use it or can you just charge it and use it?
juila m.  Jun 24, 2018

A
The AWR-650 is not a "portable" speaker, nor is it wireless. It requires an input source WITH amplification (such as an iPod through a receiver) to be wired in directly. There is no battery to charge or power.
james a.  Jun 25, 2018
A
it is a traditional speaker. It is powered by an amplifier. You need to hook it to an amplifier. It does not need to be plugged in. Nor does it contain a battery that needs charging. However, again, you will need to hook wires up to it... Stereo left and right.
danielle  Jun 25, 2018
A
Hello, you have to hard wire it to your receiver. It gets power from that source. 4 channel speaker wire works best. These rocks were a serious upgrade to the backyard pool area.
john  Jun 25, 2018
A
N, it does not need to plug into an electrical outlet, nor does it require charging. It is connected to an amplifier, which is how it receives its power.
arthur a  Jun 25, 2018
A
Neither. These are traditional speakers that need to be wired with speaker wire connected to some type of amplifier. They don't require being plugged in to an outlet and don't have a battery. I have mine connected to a Sonos connect amp that's in my basement.
bill  Jun 25, 2018
A
These speakers have to be wired to an amp they are not booth rechargeable speakers
stephen  Jun 25, 2018
A
These behave like normal stereo speakers, they need to be connected to an amplifier!tonbe used.
joe  Jun 25, 2018
A
Just connect to your receiver
richard  Jun 25, 2018
Q
Would a 300W in wall socket amp be okay? I have two bridges running to one amp.
brian  Jun 11, 2018
1 answer
A
I'm not sure I follow your application but I can tell you the Klipsch AWR-650-SM is rated to handle up to 50 watts continuous (RMS). When joining the speaker's inputs for a single channel connection, the impedance will be 4 Ohms so, bridging two channels of an amp to power it would not be recommended. Q
I have an outdoor theater and need a surround sound system. I am a little confused about speaker design and types of speakers. If I have 5 of these speakers can I use them for my center and surround speakers?
jerry  Jul 20, 2014
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If you want to use the Klipsch rock speakers as a theater set up with one being the center channel that will definitely work. I don't think you would have any issue at all doing it. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Yes! It is one of several outdoor speakers tied to my Sonos and my Alexa.
