Ready, aim, music!

The '3650-C-II's 1" aluminum tweeter gives you 100-degree dispersion, and it swivels, so you can aim the sound precisely where you need it to go. You can even rotate the 6-1/2" woofer a full 360 degrees and tilt it up to 15 degrees in any direction. This flexibility gives you full, detailed sound no matter where you place the speaker. Plus, a tweeter attenuation switch lets you adjust the sound to suit your personal taste and your room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn." This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound.

Slimmer chance of being seen

The CDT-3650 II keeps a low profile with its SlimTrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the CDT-3650-C-II in new construction.

Product Research

Features

Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT): The Klipsch CDT-3650-C II in-ceiling speaker features a patent-pending gimbal mechanism, known as Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT). The tweeter and woofer are independently adjustable, allowing both the high and low frequencies to be directed toward the listening area.

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-ceiling speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 93dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

2-Way Driver Design: The Klipsch CDT-3650-C II uses a high-quality 1" aluminum dome compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a 6.5" copper-colored IMG (injection-molded graphite) woofer in a 2-way design.

  • Tweeter: There is a 1" aluminum dome tweeter mated to a swiveling 100° Tractrix Horn. The swiveling horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter.
  • Woofer: The 6.5" copper-colored IMG (injection-molded graphite) woofer can rotate a full 360°, and then shift 15° in any direction. The solid Injection Molded Graphite woofer cone has been strengthened for even more accurate bass reproduction.

Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a pair of spring clips that can accept up to 12-gauge wire or pin connectors.

ABS Basket/Frame: The CDT-3650-C II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 8.1875". For new construction, purchase of the IK-650-C installation kit (714IK650C, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

Customer Q&A

Q
hello what brackets are compatible with this speaker?
vinh  Mar 21, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Bob, and thank you for your question. These Klipsch in ceiling speakers do not need brackets. Mounting hardware is attached to the speaker. The included clamps would attach to the back side of ceiling.

Q
How many speakers would I need for a space 28 feet deep by 18 feet wide? This is a basement.
michael  Mar 04, 2023
1 answer
A
This is a personal preference choice, and also depends on how much sound you want Michael. IF you are using these for 2-channel music listening, you could get great results with four of these for moderate listening. IF you plan to listen loud, have a large subwoofer, or prefer a wide soundstage you could use 8 or as many of these as you'd like!

Q
Can you buy black grills for this speaker?
ben  Aug 23, 2021

A
No, black grills are not available for Klipsch home speakers. They are available on commercial ceiling speakers. I painted my grills and they weren't a big hassle to do. Youtube videos can walk you through the simple process of buying the right paint to how to spray them.
roland  Aug 26, 2021
A
not that I know of. The grills that come with these can be painted.
john  Aug 24, 2021
A
They are paintable
abraham  Aug 24, 2021

Q
Can these speakers be installed in a screened in porch ceiling? It should be protected by rain but wondering about humidity and changes in temperature during season changes.
andrew  Jul 10, 2021
1 answer
A
These speakers are not moisture resistant and will not survive being installed onto a screened in porch. We carry speakers that will work and recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on speakers

Q
The speakers I have installed in the ceiling of my house aren't working. I already pulled them out to check and make sure they're hooked up correctly. One of the speakers is hooked up but the other speaker wasn't connected correctly. The wires were crossed, negative to positive and vise versa. Would this cause issues to the speakers?
mike  Dec 25, 2015
1 answer
A
For most speakers connecting them backwards like this would cause some issues, but the speaker may still work. If you purchased the product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can troubleshoot with you. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website.
