Treat yourself to top-notch sound with a speaker that blends seamlessly into your home's décor. The Klipsch® CDT-5800-C II installs in your ceiling, so it won't take up one inch of floor space. And its high-tech design and solid construction make it a great choice for movie and music lovers alike. You can use multiple CDT-5800-C IIs for surround sound in an all-Klipsch home theater, or install them in pairs for stereo listening with your multi-room audio system. Either way, you'll enjoy crisp, clear Klipsch sound without the clutter of conventional speakers.

Ready, aim, music!

The CDT-5800-C II's tweeter provides wide dispersion for consistent sound, and it swivels, so you can aim the sound precisely where you need it to go. You can even rotate the 8" woofer a full 360 degrees and tilt it up to 15 degrees in any direction. This flexibility gives you full, detailed sound no matter where you place the speaker. Plus, tweeter and mid-bass level switches let you adjust the sound to suit your personal taste and your room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn." This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound.

Keeping a low profile

The CDT-5800-C II stays inconspicuous with its Slimtrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-ceiling bracket is recommended for installing the CDT-5800-C II in new construction.

    Great Speakers

Written by: Joe C from Lancaster, PA on February 3, 2016

Great addition to my home theater setup. I'm running these as my rear speakers in my basement and they get the job done perfectly. I installed them in the ceiling with the optional Speaker Box Enclosure, ME-800C. Unfortunately Crutchfield does not sell the enclosure, but I was able to find it online easily. I can't say how they perform as stand alone speakers, but I'm sure they are fine for that as well. I do occasionally play music through a multi channel stereo setting and they don't give me any issues.

Pros: Easy Install, clean design, nice price point.

    Cons: None

Great sound, super easy to install, lay very flat against the ceiling making them practically invisible

Pros: Excellent sound, movies come to life

Cons: My ceiling is white, if it were colored, I would want to paint the grill and it wasn't clear from any of the instructions if that is possible

    Great Sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers themselves are very easy to install and sound great. It was an awesome way to add surround sound to a space that wasn't configured for wall attachments or freestanding speakers. CAVEAT: If you do not have an attic for running wire and you haven't opened up your walls or ceiling before, I'd recommend you pay for a pro to install it -- time is money and a pro will save you time and frustration.

Pros: Easy install; Look great; sound great; aimable

Cons: For the speakers themselves - none. The con is that you have to run wire in the walls.

The speakers were very easy to install, and the magnetic grill covers are a great innovation. I really like the swivel woofer and tweeter on this speaker as well. Sound is great, and they can handle a lot of power.

Pros: Easy install. Magnetic grill covers. Swivel woofer and tweeter.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these as front speakers to replace an old set of Bose 301s. They sound better than the bookshelf speakers hands down. The music quality is phenomenal and the tv/BD sound is awesome. I can't wait to get another set for the rear channel.

    Pros: Easy install, excellent sound

Cons: Bass response is OK, although that is what a subwoofer is for and not why I purchased these speakers

    Pretty Nice Speakers

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used two of these for a large room paired with a sub woofer and they filled the room quite nicely. Good speaker construction and the installation hardware seemed to work well. I like the idea of the built in tweeter and mid-bass level switches , however it did sound a bit muffled when tuned down. Great mids and highs and the adjustable directional tweeter adds a nice touch. Lows could use a bit more punch, I would recommend a sub woofer for stereo or surround applications.

Pros: mids and highs, adjustable tweeter, installation hardware

Cons: Could use a little more low-mid bass

    Ceiling speakers for Sonos Amp

Written by: Bill Y from Basking Ridge, NJ on March 14, 2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When you read the product description of most high-end ceiling speakers, it seems many are intended for use as part as of a home theater surround sound; my interest was simply to have good sound playing from a Sonos Amp. The sound from the 5800's was absolutely clear but just didn't have enough bass for our liking.

I would imagine these being the best choice if I were looking for rear surround speakers and wanted the clearest dialogue and high sounds while the sub and big front speakers carry the bass.

    Mounting Options

Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT): The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II in-ceiling speaker features a patent-pending gimbal mechanism, known as Controlled Dispersion Technology (CDT). The tweeter and woofer are independently adjustable, allowing both the high and low frequencies to be directed toward the listening area.

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-ceiling speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 95dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

Drivers: The Klipsch CDT-5800-C II uses a high-quality 1" titanium dome compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a 8" Cerametallic woofer in a 2-way design.

    • Tweeter: There is a 1" titanium dome compression tweeter mated to a swiveling 100° Tractrix Horn. The swiveling horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter.
    • Woofer: The 8" copper-colored, machine-spun Cerametallic woofer can rotate a full 360°, and then shift 15° in any direction. The solid Aluminum diaphragm, anodized to add stiffness and provide perfect damping, has a new hi-tech look that also delivers increased rigidity for even tighter, more defined bass.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a pair of gold-plated, spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, as well as pin connectors and single banana plugs.

Tweeter/Mid-bass Attenuation Switches: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch. If the speaker is located in a corner and produces too much bass, you should adjust the Mid-bass level switch (-3dB). Both switches are located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The CDT-5800-C II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

    Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.8125". For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-C installation kit (714IK800C, sold separately) is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

    Crutchfield asked
    Why did you buy this?

Just built 2 home theater systems that include Klipsh CD-5000CII, r-5650-SII, and 5650--WII. Also included subwoofers PSB CWS8, plus Polk Audtio 80F/X, 255c-RT, atrium outdoors, and finally to get Altos sound, I got ONkyo SK-H410. Everything is works and sounds great. All the speakers came from Crutchfield. I called before I ordered and discuss every speaker in detail with representative. Klipsh speakers are beautifully made. I also order two Denon Command HT receiver/amplifier. Tom [ THOMAS C  Nov 17, 2015 ]
Absolutely. A surround sound system with those Klipsch speakers would provide very good sound quality. [ Larry  Nov 20, 2015 ]  Staff
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Feb 25, 2015 ]  Staff

Emanuel, I was always taught that 10' is a good seperation between speakers. I used these speakers for my mid speakers between my front and rear speakers. I pointed the tweeters at my seating location, they work great. If you can't seperate the speakers that far try to place them just outside the seating area. I hope this helped.
