Our take on the Klipsch Custom-1

by Ralph Graves
Klipsch

Klipsch® has over 60 years of experience making great-sounding speakers, and that expertise shows with these high-performance in-ear headphones. The Custom-1 delivers clear highs and warm, deep bass using a balanced armature — the part of the headphone that vibrates to create sound. It's smaller and more efficient than more traditional mini drivers found in many in-ear headphones, and Klipsch carefully optimized its design for a balanced blend of low and high frequencies.

Klipsch in-ear headphones use oval silicon ear gels that match the shape of the human ear canal better than round inserts. They give you an extraordinarily snug, comfortable fit and a tight seal that improves bass and reduces ambient noise.

Built-in bendable, over-the-ear wire clips hold the earbuds securely in place. You can even position them partially out of your ears so you can hear surrounding sounds — a good safety precaution if you're jogging on a busy road.

Features

Sound Isolating Technology: The Klipsch Custom-1's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise. This enables you to listen at lower volumes even in loud environments.

Driver Design: The Custom-1s use exclusive KG332 balanced armatures for deeper bass, a more robust midrange, and clearer high notes.

Connecter: The earphones have an attached 46" cord which terminates in a gold-plated 1/8" stereo mini plug.

Fit: Ear sizes vary, so the Custom-1 comes with five different washable ear gel sizes; small, medium, and large single flange designs as well as small and large double flange designs. Extra small sizes can be ordered from Klipsch directly. The ear gels are anatomically designed oval, not round, to better fit the typical ear canal. The flexible gels contour to the inside of your ear to create a comfortable, secure fit that won't fall out when you move. For exterior comfort, flexible ear wires bend over and around the ears and can be customized to each user.

Cable: The cable has strain relief designed at every cable connection point to avoid wire damage. There is a cloth weave over the PVC jacketed signal cable to prevent cables from becoming exposed.

Carrying Case: The earphones come with a hard sided case to protect your investment.

Better than apple Earbuds

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Klipsch Speakers. My father got me hooked in the early 80's on the natural and realistic sound of Klipsch speakers. With that said I do not believe that these headphones are of the same tonal quality. The highs are bright and the midtones are slightly muddy. The bass is lacking severely. I understand that Klipsch addressed those problems with the more expensive versions. Bottom line is they are not worth the money and yet I cannot justify spending $70.00 dollars more for the next level of headphones. The ipod nano only cost $140.00 spending 2 times that for the headphones is crazy. :(
