Klipsch® has 60-plus years of audio design experience, and it really shows in these professional-grade in-ear headphones. Each of the Custom-3's earbuds uses separate high and low-frequency armatures and a built-in crossover. The armatures are smaller and more efficient than the more traditional mini drivers found in many in-ear headphones, and they deliver transparent, natural sound with detailed highs and deep, satisfying bass.

Klipsch in-ear headphones use oval silicon ear gels that match the shape of the human ear canal better than round inserts. They give you an extraordinarily snug, comfortable fit and a tight seal that improves bass and reduces ambient noise.

Built-in bendable, over-the-ear wire clips hold the earbuds securely in place. You can even position them partially out of your ears so you can hear surrounding sounds — a good safety precaution if you're jogging on a busy road.

Features

Sound Isolating Technology: The Klipsch Custom-3's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise. This enables you to listen at lower volumes even in loud environments.

Driver Design: The Custom-3s use exclusive KG723 tweeters, KG731 woofers and patent-pending Electro-Acoustic crossover systems, making it a studio-reference choice for musicians and audiophiles.

Connecter: The earphones have an attached 48" cord which terminates in a gold-plated, right angle 1/8" stereo mini plug. A 1/4" stereo headphone adapter is included so you can use the Custom-3s with your home audio gear. In addition, an 1/8" stereo to dual 1/8" mono mini-plug adapter is included for use on commercial airlines.

Fit: Ear sizes vary, so the Custom-3 comes with five different washable ear gel sizes; small, medium, and large single flange designs as well as small and large double flange designs. Extra small sizes can be ordered from Klipsch directly. The ear gels are anatomically designed oval, not round, to better fit the typical ear canal. The flexible gels contour to the inside of your ear to create a comfortable, secure fit that won't fall out when you move. For exterior comfort, flexible ear wires bend over and around the ears and can be customized to each user.

Cable: The cable has strain relief designed at every cable connection point to avoid wire damage. There is a cloth weave over the PVC jacketed signal cable to prevent cables from becoming exposed. The cinching mechanism at "Y" of the 48-inch audio cord allows for a better fit.

Carrying Case: The earphones come with a hard sided case to protect your investment. The case is big enough to accommodate the included accessories, and most iPods.

Nice!

Written By VMac, Abilene, Tx on Sunday, October 10, 2010

I bought these after reading several reviews, they ranged from complaints of no bass to claims of "the best buds I've ever owned". In my opinion, the Custom 3 is the best I've ever owned, including the more expensive Bose buds. Strengths include a crystal-clear midrange and a very solid base. I know know why people say there's no bass though, they did not properly seat them in their ears. If wearing ear plugs bothers you then keep searching, you can't just put them around your ears. Once you find the right size silicone ear gels, you can hear nothing but music. I am an avid runner also, and with the over the ear design I have had no issues with them popping out like I have had with some. The Klipsch phones are a level above in overall sound quality and come with some great extra toys and a nice travel case.

I also highly recommend them, they're worth the extra cost.

Quality Sound Poor Construction

Written By Jordan, Colorado Springs, CO on Thursday, February 18, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These headphones produce some of the best sound I have ever heard. Clear bass, excellent mids and highs.

They do have one serious flaw however. That is a very poor construction. The cord it comes with sucks. First, they ship it to you folded and kinked. Which is very upsetting, you would think that something that costs this much would be handled better. Second, no matter what you do, it never comes unkinked. In fact there was a point it got so bad that bare wires were forced outside the cable and I had to cut the outer cover to relieve the pressure. This happened twice.

Then, less than a year later, the peace that holds the ear piece in place broke off. Now I am forced to buy a new pair of headphones and I am going with the Sennheiser IE 8.

Even though they produce great sound, the poor construction makes them not worth it in the long run.

Fabulous sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, it appears that no vendor out there discounts Klipsch headphones so you might as well take advantage of Crutchfield's great service and buy here.

I bought these after reading several glowing reviews in print and online audio magazines and the Custom 3 does not disappoint. Strengths include a crystal-clear midrange and solid, accurate base. These phones replace a set of fi.5 EBs that I gave to my son - I had always been rather impressed with the 5s but found them to be a tad shy in the midrange. The Klipsch phones are a level above in overall sound quality. I have never tried any of Shure's or other brand's offerings so I can't make any comparisons to these. I find the sound every bit as satisfying as my over-the-ear phones.

The Custom 3s are incredibly light and comfortable and I had no problem getting a good seal with the variety of ear gels that are supplied. The included accessories are generous and the case has enough room for my compact iPod wall charger and cable. On the downside, these phones are relatively expensive. Also, the cables are covered with a woven fabric that has a great look and a luxurious feel but increases the amount of micro-phonics that get transmitted along the cables to your ear canals when the cables rub against anything - this could be an issue for those who use the phones during exercise or other physical activity.

Highly recommended for anyone who is not put off by the cost.
